Her husband Michel Berger and her were close friends from Daniel Balavoine. They were involved together in charities, reason why Balavoine was in Africa and died there. You can listen to "Evidemment" a song written just after his death, by Berger for France Gall. Very delicate and powerfull

France Gall has lived in Senegal for many years. In 1986, she had met a woman who wanted to give her her baby so that he could have a better life with her. France didn't want to separate this mother from her child and she decided to provide for the needs of this family so that they would not be separated. This baby was Babacar. He was able to grow up with his mother and have a good education. On returning to Paris, France obviously told this story to her husband, Michel Berger, who wrote and composed this song. On stage, it's Dakar musicians who come with her. A very great moment of music.

Hi Dereck, I am so glad that you are checking her out live. Fans usually rate her live version of J’irai où tu iras (I will go where you go) from that same set as her best performance. It is very long for a reaction (7 minutes plus) but you can enjoy France jamming with the brass section from Earth, Wind and Fire! In 1996 she was performing with Prince’s musicians. From that time, I highly recommend Les Princes des Villes.

A neverending tour of more than 1 year, with the Babacar LP and those concerts, this is really the peak of her career. The whole concert is a pure masterpiece. Visually nothing too spectacular, but musically it sounds strong like never before. Her usual musicians (and Jannick Top's fuc..g bass), the horns section of Earth Wind & Fire and African percussionists. She masters the stage, plays with the musicians, speaks with the audience, everything in energy, subtlety, emotion ... A true idol for a whole bunch of generations
From this concert, a sublime song she dedicates to all those who do not only hear her, but to those who listen to her: "J'ai besoin de vous" czcams.com/video/Tf913BbeKZU/video.html

Of course she represented Luxembourg in Eurovision Song Contest with "Poupée de cire, poupée de son" in 1965 and of course she won. Deservedly/ . She is also widely remembered for the song "Les sucettes" written for her by Serge Gainsbourg. The song was full of sexual connotations, mainly about fellatio, but she was so young she didn't comprehend what she was singing about. When people explained it to her after huge success of the song, she was horrified and accused Gainsbourg of manipulating her young age and inexperience. There is her solo version with atrocious dancers, and then there is the duo of the song, adorable but yet so painful for her for trusting him.

  • @marie-laurebonnier7997

This song is about a baby, called Babacar, an African desperate mother had asked France Gall to adopt when she went to Africa for charity actions. And the song is about thinking about this baby like an obsession, as if she had adopted him on her mind and in her heart, not for real. She keeps saying she can hear his heartbeats in her head and mind, wondering what he has become and feeling some sort of guilt letting him "dying" in a harsh place. And all these drums reflect these heartbeats and obsessive thoughts about him.
