Modric was an unsung hero second half. He was everywhere and making the right passes. His movement led to the second goal. He also made some good passes. He was just sublime. Being more mobile than kroos, he took on some advanced positions.

Good analysis, but you missed how momentum shifted to RM with the introduction of Modrić. His introduction gave Bellingham more attacking freedom than in the first half. To be fair Barça were good but they got outplayed in the latter stage of the match. Lastly, Bellingham is the real deal; a Zizou reincarnation, and I stand by what I said.

Barcelona have a good core of young players coming up, fermin lopez was actually superb in that first half specifically, that first half is some of the best football I've seen them play all season, they however should have known that real madrid would have up their game in the second half so they should have tried to kept the same tempo from the first half going, real madrid however momentum skyrocketed after their equalizer, I wasn't even surprised they went on to win this match, they are one of the very few teams in europe who can be poor and still get results... gonna be a exciting season going forward can't wait to see the next clasico.

This game was a great extension of the copa del rey 4-0 classic both in terms of the flow of the game and tactically. In that game barca were all over us in the first half until rodrygos equalizer before the break.
That game too was a pentagon vs box midfield battle in favor of real, this time Xavi opted to correct that with his own pentagon and kill us early which they should have done as they hit the post twice.
But then once modric, cama, and joselu got subbed on, it was a different game.

Yep, the way Real Madrid play, despite having all this talent, is dreadful. It's almost similar to the way Utd played in their last season with Fergie (extremely boring and slow). Madrid need a manager who actually wants to destroy their opponents like they used to. I think Jude, like Messi in the false 9 scheme, could mark an era. Everyone forgets that's where Messi had his peak years, not necessarily in that inside inverted winger position he's had ever since Suarez joined Barcelona, but in that unpredictabe false 9 role where he had complete freedom to roam outside the box but always finish in the poacher's position.
If you analyze and compare his data and heatmaps vs Messi 2009 it'll blow your mind. Especially how little they spend in the box but how most of their attempts come from a striker position. It's literally the exact same scheme.

That's evident. Ancelotti knows that in these games if you play with high intensity like Barca did in the first half, you'll be prone to both physical and mental fatigue as the game goes on. And once that happens, he has the players with quality that can win games for him. You rarely see Real Madrid concede in the later stages of the game when they're in control.

1 - The impact of Modric, as important as the impact of Camavinga.
2 - The mistakes that Xavi made on the subs, especially bringing on Oriol Romeu. I think that he came on for the physicall battles with Joselu and Bellingham, but for me he was never quick enough on and off the ball, which in the end of the game, would be crucial for Barça.

Given the injuries and the average age of players in Barcelona’s side I think Xavi pull out a tremendous tactical structure, watching the game I felt they had everything under control, had more and clear chances and were the aggressive side until the 70th min. Because when Valverde went back they became extremely defensive and the turn overs well controlled. I think this will be an important lesson for all of them young players and Xavi included, the subs didn’t work well and controlling is one think but the resolution in front of the goal is what makes you win.

Mainly because Anceloti's counter tactics to Xavi was always one step ahead. Anceloti knows his players and how to use them in different situations. Introduction of Modric was also very crucial decision by Don Carlo as it created numerical superiority when Barca were burned out.

The problem with Ancelotti's Madrid since he came back, or Madrid in general since August of 2015 is that they don't have a clear playstyle. Zidane and Ancelotti both rely on moments of individualism to win games. This Madrid team has so much talent and potential yet they play like a team struggling not to get relegated. The only reason why it didn't look as bad back then was cause they a goal machine like Ronaldo, Bale (when he was fit), prime Benzema (2019-2022), and a strong bench (2016-2017).

@@cisco9281 I think that's what makes Carlo Ancelotti the best, he's more in touch with the human aspect of the game rather than the tactical side. He's been known to ask his players their own opinions on how to play before a UCL Final, how crazy is that? And he has said that if you have intelligent, mature players, you don't have to go too deep into the tactical side; just tell them what the team needs and how to do it, and they will. He has had some of the biggest legends in the game, Zidane, Maldini, Kaka, Cannavaro, Ronaldinho...and The Cristiano Ronaldo, can't go bigger than that. That sort of thing calms you down as a manager, and trust your players more.

And then tuned down the intensity in the second half and gave Jude and modric (the X factor that we lack rn) a chance to shine. Props to gavi tho who pocketed Jude most of the match up until modric's subbed in.

Even in the second half Barça played well just that Madrid were better than they were in the first half with both teams having phases of good football although it was still clear that barça's midfield is a very good one only thing is that in second half Madrid became more industrious in the counter, don't you think?

Valverde and camavinga are so excellent because they have the capability of playing box to box, and often times making up for the defense . Not to mention Bellingham being a midfielder but doing forward numbers. Real Madrid are on a different level tactically but everyone’s too fixated on the way Manchester city taught y’all how to play.
