- www.hypeplustv.com/ - 'You People' on Netflix has quite a few people talking after it's release last month. The film from Kenya Barris would put a spotlight on interracial relationships starring Lauren London and Jonah Hill. Co-star Andrew Schulz would point out that the kiss at the end of the scene would end up being fake and created by CGI during a new episode of The Brilliant Idiots podcast. Lets be real she just didn't want to kiss jonah hill.
It's crazy cuz Jonah Hill is a much bigger star he should have casted someone that would have been professional she's a baby momma at this point

@@justinhunt4767 Idk I feel like Lauren was good acting wise. The chemistry just wasn't there. She actually surprised me considering I've always been a HUGE critic of her acting and choice to cast her for certain roles. I see her growing a bit since stepping out again. I think she killed ATL, and for the life of her cannot escape that character or being typecast but since then it just feel like she doesn't go for more challenging roles and there's less growth bc of it. There was potential there had they casted a more believable male lead. They just didn't fit, unfortunately.
@@arthurbooker1118 I don't know she's just a light skin less pretty version of her in ATL. BLK people need actors not stereotypes. Enough with the ghetto stuff no more hood movies/shows
@@justinhunt4767 yeah idk about this. Black people need representation on all fronts not just those who don't fit "the stereotype". There's enough room for black excellence to be represented as much as there is the latter
Lauren London and Jonah Hill are actors. Regardless if they don't make a realistic couple, it's called acting. It was a test of their acting chops. And if they couldn't make it look believable, they both failed. Nuff said.
It's been reported that Lauren London couldn't act since ATL ... and Jonah Hill is barely a B lister, so why would a grungy, tatted, ex surfer be in an art gallery with so much game to make a pass on her... Hell Janet Jackson made 2Pac do a STD and AIDS test before their love scene in Poetic Justice
I lbelieved it. lol I thought the movie as so cute. Do we have to see sex scenes and PDA all the time. Thats a part of relationships but not all of relationships. I dont really need to see that in a movie. I say that not to discount your opinion. Im not arguing your point to be clear.
I don't know wtf everybody talking about: I saw this film and loved it. Eddie killed it. Jonah did good. Lauren was great. And even Mike Epps represented. Fuck everybody bitter for ?
@@omarstephen6658 I liked it as well! totally enjoyed it
@@omarstephen6658 right I loved the movie people always want to have a problem with everything they can never be satisfied
I would NEVER cast her in another role. She tells us she wasn't into the role from the start. Thats the role of an actress, to MAKE US BELIEVE the character and story.
Then they should fire you from your job for calling out of work with that logic .. I mean they pay you to work not call out right?
@@kgdabuddha2264 she said WHO would believe they would be attracted to each other. An actors job is to make you believe the impossible roles. Thats why your D/A screams at action movies when they crash and when Jason comes but you know he isn’t real and you cry when a beloved character dies. Now GO AWAY.
Considering they CGI'd the kiss, that proves she didn't have the bare minimum to dedicate an actual kiss
@Angie Bee I heard what she said and thats her opinion. I haven't even seen the lobbies but before I came to this comment section I've seen women say they liked the movie. and Denzel doesn't kiss white women in his movies. Certain actors have more pull then others in Hollywood. But they all come with their own negotiations for a film. And you're too old to be so immature to tell me to " go away " for having a conversation ma'am
@@kgdabuddha2264 imagine if an actor “didn’t kiss black women” as part of their negotiated contract. You guys are so dumb.
I could understand if she didn’t want to passionately kiss him with tongue and all, but refusing to even give him a closed mouth kiss on their characters wedding, I would’ve had her replaced.
He looks like he smells
Yes, ahe should have passed on the role if she wasn't willing to make the relationship believable for whatever reason. They should have picked another actress for the role.
Black women that can get high profile Black men usually don't go for white men. I don't think that's her cup of tea but she was willing to try the movie. The are some black women that would have tongue him to be in that movie but they are not going to be as attractive as Lauren so therefore they won't get the same opportunities.
@@dallasmccall7941 True and I noticed lighter skin black girls don't usually date them. I mainly see darker skin black girls with wyte dudes
How do you know? All of this is conjecture. The kiss was fake but you don’t actually know why.
@@dallasmccall7941 Nah, she was just cheap to cast. Netflix was already on a big budget with the rest of the cast.
@@davidortiz2026 She may have been cheap to cast but she is still Attractive and able to get with High-profile Black Men. Which is probably why she's not eager or feels like she needs to be intimate with a white man. Because she knows what it's like to be provided for and well taken care of Financially by well off black men. Nipsey was taken care of her and let's not forget that she has a child with Lil Wayne who recently got hit with 9 figure check for selling the masters of Nicki Minaj and Drake. So her yearly child support income from him is more than what ever she got for this movie.
Here's my lil rant, whenever there's a interracial storyline that involves a black woman and white man, the white guy is usually NOT HOT or definitely not the first choice of a black woman but the sister is fine as hell! But the brother loving on a white woman NEVER looks like a Jonah Hill.
You have a point
You said it! I notice that too.
I guess I don't follow enough interracial rom coms but what are some examples?
That’s really the subliminal point of the movie….
⚜️It's as if they're saying...we can't get a hot white guy. There are tons of black females with very attractive white guys.
My exes were white, except a few,....my last boyfriend: blonde, blue eyes, beautiful face, Younger, did everything for me and bought me everything including luxury cars. I always had his credit cards that he let me keep if I needed anything.
We were together 4 years until I moved back to my home city for family.
So they never portray the truth regarding us!😔
Lol so she can kiss Michael B but not J Hill?? Crazyyyy😂🤣she knew what she was doing.
Micheal looks a million times better than Jonah Hill.
I wonder who made the decision not to have it be a real kiss...
It was probably either her...Jonah...or maybe Kenya
Let’s be real who is dying to kiss Jonah Hill 😂
If if u were a girl u would be happy to kiss Michael b Jordan over Jonah
She weird for that
After watching the movie, I told my husband that I got a friend vibes between Johna and Lauren. I did not get a vibe that they were attracted to each other, let alone in love with each other. Both are great actors, but the romantic chemistry wasn’t there.
He was okay, not great, she was terrible, it was like the whole movie she just didn't want to be there
Another reason could be that she still stuck on nip and will always be

I thought the film was good for what is was. I think people who say the couple was not realistic missed the point of the movie. I liked the message of the movie and found parts of it corny. I’m not really sure why people are expecting a movie to be real . They are all actors 😂
@@ieatpercs She was the prize 🤣 Are you saying she was a slave.
She’s not physically attracted to the man. Acting or not if there is no sort of physical attraction it is very difficult for someone to be able to display that on screen.

I found myself rooting for the Jonah & Lauren’s characters. I didn’t understand the lack of affection either but thought maybe they wanted to put emphasis on the conflict between the families more than oversell that they were actually “in love” 🤔 I liked it but it did feel a bit rushed & most unconvincing part for me was that Eddie & Nia were Muslims
That’s what I said the writers wanted to point out the controversy more than the actual relationship people blaming Lauren when they should be blaming the writers for rushing the plot
I agree with your last point a lot. They did a full jewish cast for those characters that were jewish but why write in the black muslim plotline (which was a nice change to see) and only half-ass it and not cast one black muslim? When they did the prayer before eating not one of them closed the prayer properly, just felt lazy
Its more like she couldnt act like she loved him and was physically repulsed by jonah
well thats cuz hes a christian... and we dont do that fake prayer@@valf156115

I got to where Jonah brought Lauren to meets his parents and I had to turn it off. It just wasn’t good. And it really didn’t break any new ground.

Chemistry between THE MAIN COUPLE in a story is important. The couple’s Chemistry determines viewer investment in the relationship. If there’s chemistry, people will care if the relationship is threatened. But if there’s no chemistry, conflict falls flat.
Perfect description!
I love a good rom com but this was not one. I even went in with a clear mind because Lauren is my girl. Her acting has improved but the stereotypes took away from the plot entirely too much for me.
I didn’t understand why she got mad at Ezra having connections like her dad wasn’t boasting about knowing Farrakhan.
LL and Jonah had friendly chemistry and that may be due to the simple fact that we didn’t see any build up of the relationship. It seemed so rushed to me.

I don't think the idea of them being in a relationship was the problem. I've seen couples who look like they don't belong together, make it work. They needed someone like a Keke Palmer or even Raven Symone to play off of Julia Louis-Dreyfus; like Hill and Murphy.
Good point keke would have been great. I also noticed how flat lauren seemed next to julia but the writing lent it to that…she had almost no lines or reactions written for her in contradt to julia
Not surprised but why not take on non kissing roles 🤷🏿♂️

I’m tired of social media people. Theyre always complaining about something. Mfs got more ish going on in their own lives but so

The chemistry was a miss for me too but I enjoyed it still. I feel like somebody like Keke Palmer would’ve been great for the part
I thought the movie was more so about the religious and cultural differences surrounding their families rather than their romantic chemistry. And acting has nothing to do with whether the people genuinely connected but whether they can portray a connection on screen.
What if it was Jonah that didn’t want to kiss her? He’s an extremely private guy and insecure (not saying this in a bad way). He wouldn’t even do a promo tour for this movie because of being afraid that reporters would ask about his weight loss and what not
Nah. Hell nah.

Yeah her and Jonah didn't exactly hit it off 🙄
Turns out Sarah Brady (surfer, Jonah Hill ex-gf) revealed recently why the CGI kiss happened, because some odd conversation in texts to her about boundaries and proving he can be chaste in acting.
I see what people are saying, as a director, I too would have question the validity of their relationship, it wasn't what we wanted to see... however, I also believe in actors being able to do enough to sale it. Like in real life, there was no casualness to their relationship during the dating process, intimate kissing and etc, however, the director did a great job bringing in "pseudo" chemistry, with fashion, art and love who you choose themes..., with that, this worked for the film they were making.
Why does it matter…
Because it takes away from the little believability this movie had.
I mean my son's mom and I got together for almost a decade, and people would have said the same thing... That's why the world is so fucked up cause how shallow everyone is...
I think few will accept seeing London with anyone! However, I’m for finding love with soneone that makes you happy regardless if their the “type” people think you should go for. Genuine compatibility in life does not always meet everyone’s expectations.
I really think deep down people couldn't see her with that fat wyt man so they really were resistant to that image. I think more "different" people would connect if we got these stigmas out of our heads.

The movie was pretty bad...the script, the editing, the acting. Acting maybe was bad because they can only do so much with a bad script. Waste of a fantastic, skilled cast. Aside from the lack of chemistry between those two, I didn't like how the white/Jewish actors and black actors were portrayed. Making the black actors rude assholes and making the whites all dumb as hell, socially awkward and oblivious... I don't have a problem with movies about race or stereotypes if it's done right but the tropes and the dichotomy used between the black and white cast was a bit over the top and unrealistic. As far as the kiss...it's really weird that they didn't..how often does a CGI kiss happen in Hollywood, wtf? ...but it confirms our thoughts on their lack of chemistry. If I was producing or directing the movie I probably would have switched Lauren London out in the middle of shooting for someone that could play the role better and make it more believable. She is fine as hell and a good actor but if you're not right for the role, it just is what it is... I would say just switch Jonah Hill out but he probably was a producer or director. He was definitely a writer and I'm sure it was basically meant to be a Jonah Hill movie that he planned on starring in so you know he's not going anywhere...
Right! This was a great review. It was a bad movie 😂 the script felt…odd and not in a good way. The first half felt as if they were cramming in too many jokes, like a standup! And cgi kissing?! Unheard of! The cgi looks pretty bad too. Im going to school for VFX right now, and I could probably do something that looks a little better than what was shown. 💀 Definitely felt a little rushed!
That kiss with Michael B Jordan was definitely intense, acting or not haha! She was in that one all the way. Easy to say she wasn't attracted to Jonah Hill so kissing him just wasn't in her to-do list
I never knew this happened. I couldn’t get through the whole movie. And I will not be finishing it…

Great Video. I'm more curious who gave Andrew Schulz the ok to reveal that the kiss isn't real. You can be from two totally different worlds and like each other. For some that is a preference. If she had that question then that might be why it didn't work - because she didn't believe it. She should have done more research. There's a lot of couples like that. I think there's a whole channel dedicated to it on youtube I can't remember what it's called - something love.
At the end of the day, people can do what ever they are comfortable with right? It’s also people’s right not to like that fake artificial kiss.
Lmao! I didn’t even notice. I have to go back & watch just for that.
Shout out to Andrew for getting more eyes on the movie. It was already doing numbers but his promotion helped. His acting... He needs a coach before he actually does costar in a film.
What if Jonah Hill didn't want to kiss her he said he was going through something Prussian right now one of the reasons why he didn't even want to go out and promote the movie right
I thought the movie was pretty good. I thought their glaring differences made it more realistic. She had to like this guy for the man he was inside. That’s how I view it at least
It had some funny moments but she should of been recasted
And I thought Henry cavill horribly removed cgi mustache was terrible but damn this took the cake 🎂
I personally think they displayed a lot of realness, being so opposite and such an unexpected couple they did well. They were cute IMO. It’s not all about kissing and lovey dovey BS. Some people are too use to seeing unrealistic relationships on tv. 🙄🙄

Love is not measured by how much lust is shown. I LOVED the movie especially the part of opposites attract! It gives me hope to step out of my norm and evaluate love from anyone who loves me back. Your tax bracket, color nor religion shouldn't matter. During those difficult times in the relationship love will prevail not lust (or a kiss) Lets let go a adversity and embrace diversity
I think your misunderstanding this. Plenty of opposite coupes attract, but you can actually see a genuine connection. YOU couldn't see it in this movie. To not have one scene where they kiss is weird.

Without Remorse was released in 2021, but she was cast in the role before her partner’s death, and filmed in late 2019. If she truly hadn’t wanted to go through with the role, she could have dropped out, or maybe she was locked in to the film and had to see it through. But it’s possible with her casting in You People coming after she was able to agree in advance to a no kiss rule. Which is her choice. But it’s a rom com. So if she’s truly against any further romantic scenes, which is again her choice, she shouldn’t be pursuing or accepting these type of roles.

I watched it with my family. We thought it was a cute movie. I didn't think it was realistic that they would date at first, but I thought they did a great job of showing them getting to know eachother and showing the things they had in common and how they were willing to hold eachother down. We see people all the time in real life and wonder...how did those two end up together, so there is no reason why this couldn't happen in real life. I do think it is odd that a professional actor would fake a kiss when she is the lead in a romcom.

i was wondering why there were petals falling all of a sudden. to cover the fake kiss. crazy!
This literally reminds me of MC Search and this is going back 30 years ago. A jewish kid into hip hop, was a rapper that married a black woman named Chantel! I think this may be odd for LA but this could totally happen n NYC! Even one of Micheal Rappaports wives was a black woman.! in NYC this is totally possible, that two people from different cultural worlds could meet, fall in love and marry. People think if they never saw something or experience something.. It never happened nowhere else in the country.
My ex was a funny fat jew from Brooklyn. This is totally normal in NY... Lauren just sucks at acting
You are right, but the difference, Serch and Rappaport actually had rea ove and affection. i see blended coupels all the time, and you see how in love they are with each other. To only kiss once at the END of the film just did not ring true.
In NYC, interracial is the norm. Every combination possible happens there. In NYC, sometimes dating interracial is easier then dating your own.
Went to a party many years ago in Queens. I'm black and opened to anything. Most of the dimes at this party were black and a few white girls. All the black, white, Latin, Asian, and Indian dudes bagged the fine black chicks. The only girl who was checking for me was a BBW Indian girl, like 300lbs+. And yes, we hooked up, because I had to go home with something.
@@HappyRoach1 thats what I'm saying . Im suprised this movie is getting some backlash in 2023! It really depends on experience I guess. Yeah in NYC this is totally the norm. I actually seen legit orthodox jewish men hollering at the black chicks in a spot in Williamsburg.
Jew isn't a race just a plain wyt guy
I loved this movie. There was sooo much more to this movie than romance. This movie opens the door to so many conversations around race relations. And I thought their chemistry was fine. 🤷🏾♀️
I agree, these people on social media are overthinking this. Lol😂
Na there lack of chemistry was a joke
What conversations?… the characters were vapid and the writing was elementary.
Yes, I did not enjoy this movie because, something was missing from their performances that I didn't know at the time of watching their acting skills in motion what it was, which obviously turned out to be their on-screen chemistry however, as I was watching this movie I got a sense that something wasn't quite right about their characters it just didn't come across as being authentic or believable as her beauty was over shadowing his frumpy look which made their pairing much more difficult to understand.
How many movies are based on the premise of opposites attracting? So it’s not about that as much as it’s about how much did they make us believe it…that’s where this movie may have fallen a tad short.
Just watched it today .and it's ok with me.😁
I thought this was a pretty good movie overall. Being in a relationship isn’t always lovey dovey kiss kiss all the time. So I don’t think lack of chemistry was a factor in this movie. It was more so the stereotypes and the couple being of two completely different backgrounds. It seems like they didn’t put a lot of thought into how their families would react to their relationship. I didn’t like how either of the families were acting but more so on Ezra’s side with his mom which was just a bit cringe in my honest opinion. If you have to be in an interracial relationship please understand and be knowledgable of their race and culture first.
I think the whole family thing is what they got right the most, and what carried the film. I tried a interracial relationship before also, and it was very much like this. Two people with very different backgrounds, not knowing how our families would react to or with one another. I think most interracial relationships are like this, with the family aspect, neither actually thinking about how this would effect each other's families or any knowledge of each other's cultures.
@@JamesCH08 Couldn’t agree more
Lol if you have to be in an interracial relationship… don’t. The same weirdness that was the white family will only transfer to your black looking child. They’ll either treat him like a toy or disrespect and mistreat them all together.--- LaTaisha Nicole
I didn't even notice the lack of a kiss. I was watching it for Eddie and Eddie only. Julia was an added plus. 🤷♀
They kissed earlier in the movie. The final kiss was the only CGI one. This was filmed during COVID and the scenes aren’t filmed in sequential order so someone could have been sick.
Old dress wearing Eddie
@Queen Nikki Eddie didn't disappoint 😊 But, to be fair, the movie was about his daughter. He wasn't in it as much as I would have liked.
Michaela cole, lupita nyongo, Lesley jones, ego nwodim,Nyima funk, the list goes on…if you didn’t want to kiss him don’t take advantage of someone else’s art for your own gain.
