As a black guy ,i found Eddie's family the rude racist family.
Yeah it was weird. The white family falls all over themselves to relate and be welcoming while Murphy and his family just stand there with their arms folded, rolling their eyes. That's it. One family did nothing except watch the other try too hard. I thought it would be more even handed.
@@gridlo honestly its an even worse message than any other alternative when the white family is the only one portrayed as decent in their intentions despite race comedy hijinks "making them look bad" and the black family are portrayed as outright racist
Honestly, I’m surprised more people aren’t complaining about the NOI being written into this movie. I know it’s not all the characters, but it’s a movie where the main subject is race and the black father is quite literally a black supremacist.
absolutely all the way through
Watching this movie with the stomach flu was a odd experience. I didn't know if I wanted to throw up because the scenes were cringey, or because I literally was going to barf
It was literally that bad.
The cringe was tuff
I feel like Netflix’s movie brand is coalescing into: star-studded cast, great concept, high budget movies that are never as good as they SHOULD be considering everything they have going for them. Of course they churn out so much, but I’m referring to the movies they really hype. The majority are just spectacle and no substance.
Don’t Look Up is a prime example of this in my opinion.
Also Red notice
The advent of streaming on demand has made it impossible to make profits with movies as they used to make in the past when they were released in theatres then go to DVD. Because of the lack of profits from streaming services and margins being so narrow, they're forced to cut somewhere and that's in writing. The industry is now filled with unskilled writers who cost less and then we get the movies we get.
Am I the only one who feels that Jonah Hill looks older than Eddie Murphy and Julia Louis-Dreyfus? It kinda makes the interactions between their characters look kinda weird. One is his girlfriend's father and the other is his mother, but he looks older than both...
I don't know about "older than" them, but he does look about their age. I was kinda taken aback by his older appearance as well.
@@jokerswildio, he hasn't taken super good care of himself, so that's not surprising.
Funniest scenes for me were David Duchovny playing the piano, singing "Ordinary People", and the Coke guy scene in the Vegas strip bar.
The Coke Guy scene was hilarious. Also the Ms Marvel teacher who made it even better.
Or when Duchovny's reading about Xzibit from wiki during the rehearsal
I concur that is the only scene I lol at. Don't really see David Duchovny as a comedic actor but he did good.
Yes! And the scene where Jonah was balling at the park 😂
@@WilliamsPinch "The Professor" hehe
Every time I see the title I want to rewatch Tropic Thunder. What do you mean you people?
just watch Tropic Thunder and forget about this mess, 😂
What do you mean YOU people???
Tropic Thunder was what this movie aspires to be
That’s a shame they couldn’t spin the plot into something truly positive
Was obvious based on trailers
Eddie Murphy was so racist in the movie
Right! This could’ve been a great film. The writing was terrible.
My feelings about this movie are almost identical to yours. I actually quit halfway through the movie because I was exhausted by the unbelievable stupidity of all the characters
No one is going to do it better than "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner". Hollywood should really stop trying.
Looks like the funniest joke in this film is that Ezra's (Jonah Hill) parents are the same age as him.
KENYA FAILED AGAIN? Im gonna ACT totally surprised right now. 🤪
What are some other examples? I am not that familiar with him.
Besides all the cringe and awkward scenes, Jonah plays such a low key guy you kind of wonder what does his fiancé finds in him. He’s so bland, not a very interesting leading man, she’s cool and he’s just there. I feel bad for Lauren London, I think her energy was great and did a good job but she had zero chemistry with Jonah, you don’t buy that they were madly in love enough to fight through their parents’ opposition.
exactly this was like average joe and a cute girl .like dude have some charm to u ? How come jonah's dad had more charm than him?
0 chemistry!! They kissed 3 times in the whole movie and looked like they were told by the director "act like you love each other" so they held hands and had an awkward hug
This is Kenya Barris's whole shtick. I should've known this movie was gunna be bad going into it because he was attached to it, but I always try to give the benefit of the doubt. I'm in an interracial relationship, hell I'm mixed myself, and while the topic of race does come up, it is rarely ever THIS awkward and THAT frequent (in the way the film tries to present it as). Barris is entirely out of touch and stuck in the past
Same. My brother married one of my good college friends who’s Haitian (we are Italian) and our family and hers have rarely, if ever, had racial awkwardness, much less every conversation focusing on it.
Yes! Hollywood must be the most racist place on earth. I don't know anyone like this...
Good for you but not all interracial dating is the same. Especially when meeting the family. Mine was anger inducing and hella awkward sometimes.
Is Eddie Murphy any gud in it? The man was a comedian and one of the best ever. Comedians are pretty much philosophers and underrated actors
@@shanayacarriere926 Yes, there will always be a different experience, nothing is entirely universal, but this is what Barris does in EVERYTHING. Dude is too hyperfocused on race and it got old quick in this movie. A lot of the scenes in this felt like he browsed talking points off of Facebook and went, "yep, that's good material right there," and never even tried to go beyond surface level commentary with it.
This seems like the kind of movie that thinks highlighting the negative traits in different races is more "profound" than highlighting the positive traits that different races share despite the differences. And it's not even in a clever, ironic, or tongue and cheek way. It's dangerously close to Velma territory in that regard.
Bro watch the movie stop listening to others opinion before you from one for yourself this was about how divide white and black people are and the fact that we both say shit about each other but at the end of the day the right thing to do is come together and celebrate one another 🤦♂️
on point 👉 👍
This! 💯
Velma?
I found this film to be amazingly honest about how difficult it is to be in an interracial relationships with a bit of comedy mixed it. It did a good job of highlighting the positive and the negative.
This was a perfect review. It had its moments here and there but the cringe began to get so bad that it was hard to watch.
And it wasn't even funny it was just like yeah this is really awkward. It made the movie feel more like a drama than a comedy honestly.
@@israelsaadesnoozer377No, it made it feel like a satire.
When they were under the covers🤢🤢🤮 when she said "we go together" and he hugged her from behind🤢🤢🤮
@@gaila.9852 yes! I didn’t laugh once and thought it was just satire or a comment on society but comedy? Nope.
@@007Julie I think I chuckled a few times, but nearly everything felt calculated. I wrote in another comment that I was very aware that I was watching a movie, which is not how the audience should feel in most cases. The movie was so close to being a satire that they might as well as have gone down that path. Someone else said that the characters felt like caricatures, and I agree.
Honestly i think amira (the bride) was really unlikeable. She kept judging and antagonizing everyone before she got to know them (like in the uber scene). I can see that ezras mother was supposed to be a very ignorant character, but she always seemed to mean well. The part where she hangs out with amira's friends was really unfair towards her since pretty much everything she has are small accidents, which pisses everyone off. I understand they wanna show the black perspective of being mistreated and a large amount of situations in the movie are actually the product of racism, but Amira always just seems defensive and always ready to point the finger even if its unjustified.
After the billionth micro aggression or overt insult/assault I think you'd be 'defensive' and 'ready to point the finger'. As to what is 'unjustified' is subjective and influenced by the bias of the judge not the judged.
@@ablackgoliath1827 the part where she meets ezra was not even a micro agression, and she still treats it as such. Also what is justified is only partially subjective, since its based on our shared moral code, which condems dissing people over things they could not have known. im not saying all black people should excuse racist behaviours or bend over for every person being ignorant, but if they are not actually racist, but prejudiced their treatment should most if not all the time be different. Meaning explaining what bothers you about their behaviour and why its inaproppriate. Its not your duty to educate them, but its also not your duty to insult them so you might as well do the former.
@@ablackgoliath1827 after all its equally racist to judge someone as a villain for being white as it is to judge a black person for anything. Racism applies to all ethnicities even if white to black racism is way, way more prevalent and serious in the US.
Yeah, as a black woman, I didn’t understand why she was intolerant of the mother-in-law. Personally, I would’ve just tried to have a direct conversation since she was well-meaning enough. It would’ve been more enjoyable and humorous if Amira would’ve trolled Shelley and poked fun at her ignorance instead of outright condemning her.
@@WilliamsPinch I agree. As a black woman married to a white man the movie made things seem way more difficult in interracial relationships than what it exactly is majority of the time. Both parents were cringey and being both characters are in their 30s, no one would tolerate that from their parents if they’re really in love.
This movie was hard to watch. At a bare minimum your Satire Rom Com should have Comedy or Romance and this movie has neither. There is no chemistry between any actor on set. Every conversation felt like an awkward riff.
This was a tough watch. I too was sad because the cast is so capable.
At least Nia Long got a bag from this. I always like seeing her.
Wish her and David Duchovny had more time on screen.
My thoughts exactly but it looked like she didn't even wanna be in it 🤣
I wish she had more physicality in this. Meaning more comedic movement/situations.
Your viewpoints are exactly how I felt! Kenya Barris has made countless shows on race and still doesn’t get it. It was 2 hours too long and too uncomfortable and repetitive to be a comedy. The stereotypes were annoying and I got bored after 45 mins.
Dan what are your thoughts on the whole Andrea Riseborough situation???
The tragedy is that Jonah was able to leave the barbershop with his hair like that.
I watched 2 movies this weekend. The menu and You People. One was fantastic and the other was You People.
I was so hype for this film, but it was such a one dimensional film that wasn’t even thought provoking while being it’s intent.
I liked this film. It is a bit clumsy and doesn't always work but at least it had the ambition to try to tackle big topics.
This does not bode well for Beverly Hills Cop 4.....
Neither does coming 2 america
Who's even excited about BHC4? 3 was bad enough
Hilarious you thought BHC4 was gonna be good
4 could have been cool when adil & billal were still attached to it
@@dylanrowell176 that movie was rubbish also
Most the acting was pretty good in it, but the dialogue, comedy, editing and pacing was like something from an early 90s young teen show.
I knew from the first trailer this movie would be bad. Kenya & Hill should’ve given this script to someone to punch it up & make the jokes more snappy & the conversations more natural. Also, Kenya shouldn’t have directed it. This movie, with this cast should’ve been better
Julia Louis-Dreyfus could have played Jona hill's sister in this movie, she looks that good for her age
The drugs are making Jonah Hill look old.
@@revekat2053 he looks so old and tired. I hope he’s ok.
Saying someone “looks good for their age” is not a compliment. She looks good, period.
@@007JulieReally? I thought he looked great in this movie.
Eddie looks amazing too
I was excited about You People because of the cast, and I personally have not seen many movies with this plot. I am disappointed with it overall, but I do not regret watching it. It was fun to witness such a talented cast, and the basketball scene put a smile on my face. I recommend that people check out this movie, and I hope they have a better experience. Here are my thoughts:
1. It was weird of them to cast someone biracial to play a character who goes, “Ooh, a white person. This is so new for me.” I know that Akbar and Fatima address Amira’s skin tone by mentioning that Fatima’s grandfather was white, which makes Amira 12.5% white, but knowing that Lauren London is 50% white took me out of the movie. I just could not get into her supposed unfamiliarity with white people.
2. The movie barely spends any time building Amira and Ezra’s relationship. They seem to be engaged just as soon as they meet, so the audience is sort of told to root for them rather than having reasons to do so. Also, Ezra’s lying is supposed to be funny, but it is actually concerning. He needs to get that together.
3. A lot of the dialogue feels unnatural, and the conversations about race relations are obviously scripted. I could tell that I was watching a movie, which is not a good thing. For instance, what a coincidence that as soon as Amira tells her brother she is dating a white man, their dad walks in and starts talking about how there are less Black people these days because of interracial relationships.
4. Asking for your girlfriend’s parents’ blessing should absolutely not be the first time you meet them. Also, crashing a bachelor party that is just fine with your daughter is not okay.
5. The movie makes Black people look like bullies. Several of them say, “Who is this white person?” as if that is to be expected. Most Black people would not act like that. For instance, Amira’s friends know that Ezra is white, so why would they be confused that there are white women at Amira’s bachelorette party? I also doubt that Amira would not tell her friends they were coming.
6. Ezra is the punching bag the whole movie, so I was glad to see him stand up to Akbar. The back-to-back monologues are well acted, and so is the breakup scene. I will say though that Shelley is not as bad as Amira treats her. Ezra’s feelings about Akbar are inarguably valid, but the movie makes Amira look dramatic and impatient for the way she treats Shelley. Yes, Shelley does miss the mark sometimes, especially with her fetishization of blended families, but she has good intentions and spends time researching Black culture. Unlike Akbar, she makes an effort and has an open mind. Also, Ezra simply says that Akbar is intense, which he is, so Amira’s “angry Black man” comment is cringeworthy and misplaced.
7. I am glad it all worked out, but what a ridiculous ending. Assuming that two people who have been broken up for several months would want to get married the second they make up is so silly. What if they are over each other? What if they need time to talk things through?
I completely agree with all of your comments especially your second one, they get engaged very quickly and you hardly see them kiss or being romantic, Jonah’s so awkward. You don’t root for their relationship because there’s hardly any. And why would they get married that very second? No woman in her right mind would get married in her normal street clothes to a guy who she hasn’t seen in months, they didn’t even talk for like ten mins. Where’s the wedding dress? And Jonah with that horrible haircut!! Terrible script overall.
Adding that there's no chemistry between Ezra and Amira as characters and actors... they look like friends and nothing more... the whole thing is based on an unseen devoted passionate love between 2 people as a platform to puke about white vs black, constantly using generic and shallow statements about each other...
@@007Julie Ugh, the ending was so unbelievable. The writers could have done better with this movie in many ways.
@@canthinkaboutone I definitely agree that the dialogue was predictable and not as deep as the writers seemed to think it was.
Thank you!
Great review!!
What a disappointment! Struggled to even finish it. Cringe
Well now I probably won't, lol. I generally try not to let reviews sway me to not watch a movie I was initially interested in seeing but given your reaction I just don't want to waste my time. Maybe I'll check it out on a rainy day somewhere down the road but I'm not going to make it a priority. Thanks for your honesty as always!
I'm gonna try to watch this but I'll probably just end up watching Guess Who. Bernie Mac and Ashton Kutcher were great together.
Guess Who was a thousand times better than this
Then watch the original Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner!
😂😂
Guess who is a good movie. It’s a lot softer and easier to consume for today’s touchy audience.
Our Family Wedding for Mexican - Black couple.
I'm so torn on this movie.. The story was lackluster, they went WAAAAY to cringe with some of the racial scenes especially with Julie and the ladies in general.. I only think one line made me laugh at that was towards the end.. That said.. The idea of the movie is good, Jonah, Eddie, David, Nia where all doing great they just needed better scenes.. If this movie was just Jonah and Eddie goes toe to toe this could have been great..I also loved all the cameos from older actors
I enjoyed it - I know people seem to not like Kenya Barris anymore but as usual , his content still entertains me. There were some awkward moments but Jonah hill still comes off hella charismatic and sweet. Really enjoyed it . Sorry to those who were u comfortable or didn’t like it.
You know it goes without saying of dried up tropes in movies that one can get tired of, it’s this while schtick.
It’s like, you could mix it up, maybe by having a lead who is mixed themselves, but then it just devolves into the same one trick pony for easy laughs and nobody can have a good time.
The funny thing is that Lauren London IS biracial.
Some people will call this movie too woke for its own good but the truth is all it did was spell out reality with comedy.
Netflix is consistent... Consistent in delivering big names in mediocre content. Thanks Dan, I'll pass; too many other quality alternatives to spend time on over this.
So who do we blame for this stench?
Gotta be the writing, right?
It's Kenya Barris. The dialogue reeked of Kenya Barris's typical unfunny "comedic" takes on race in modern society
he can be good in blackish but he heavily hates white people in his movies and shows doesnt seem to ever let up on the hate
It had it's moments, but it was pretty rough to watch.
oh boy! i really wanted to see this movie but i think i'll just wait until I run out of stuff to watch before I bother
Sad to hear it wasn't all I was hoping it would be..
I completely agree with Dan but Dan was way too nice about it all. This was a terrible movie that was painful to sit through.
Im mixed I don’t need a film to spend 90% of its run time saying race mixing is bad only to then heel turn at the last minute to redeem itself.
Its the film equivalent of the dude that says “no offense but…” followed by the most tone deaf idiotic statement ever.
I would like to apologise on behalf of white, jewish and black people for this travesty of a movie.
I love the actors, but watching the trailer I had a very strong vibe that it is just a scene from Jump street 22 streched into a whole series.
I rolled my eyes at this film for a different reason than Dan. He seems to not like the constant talk about race and racism, calling it one note. I rolled my eyes at this fairly new movie trope of the well meaning white people who don't mean to ignorant of race but are, and the black characters who overtly talk about race in a way just to try to make white people feel uncomfortable
Expected. The movie was an elongated TikTok/Instagram Reel about having an interracial relationship.
The movie is one note because Kenya Barris is one note, was rather disappointing for me too I must admit.
It is a very relevant/necessary magnification of reality. If you indeed have concluded that it is “one thing over and over” then congratulations you got the point.
Especially the crindge and repetition is part of the message. It is one thing like in real life that has a simple fix. Go be part of the change.
Damn! You are right in all the points you make Dan, but still, I enjoyed the movie very much ☺️ I believe the talent involved is what compensate a little for the bad writing. What I couldn't get out of my mind, how the profession of the lead character changed with the times, there's a trend in romantic comedies of the characters to have jobs related to the the industry, or creative jobs to say it in some way. Writers, photographers, models, designers, journalists, reporters, etc.... And finally it happened a podcast host!
Great review dan , but why are you telling "us people" we lack execuction.
Netflix is all about short "incubation/production" periods and high volume. That's their whole strategy. They're the Buzzfeed of content streaming, and let's be real... that strategy works. I know b/c I operate my own content business, and truthfully volume (albeit mediocre quality) makes great returns.
Totally agree
The decision to cast a half white biracial black woman with two dark brown parents is clearly a Hollywood agenda and racism. It would have been too "edgy" to have a brown or chocolate toned black woman play the love interest of a well to do Jewish man.
Secondly, Lauren's acting was horrible and lacked chemistry with the other actors. The cast was fun, but something was missing. Either it was the writing or the poor acting of the leading character.
Overall, the movie was just ok. Good acting is important in movies. They should have casted a more skilled actor to play the leading lady.
Eddie and Jonah was the best part. Eddie alone makes up the film. The parts with Jonah was not so good when it's without of Eddie.
Idk I found this movie hilarious. That’s all that mattered to me
Dan can you please watch Mayor of Kingstown and do a review?
Sounds like a skippable movie
My parents are mixed, married in 67 and together for 50 years until my Dad died. My younger white friend recommended this to me, so I'm going to watch this with an open mind. But it will have to be some film to beat ' Guess who is coming to dinner?'.
This movie should be called "Facebook Comment Sections From Last Year"
Apparently the the kiss at the end was CGI.
Beyond whether the movie is good or back, I'm surprised Netflix approved something so socially tuchy.
They greenlit cuties and big mouth
It’s such a caricature that I don’t think it’s trying to say anything. It’s the equivalent of Marvel’s BIG political statement at the end of the Bucky and Cpt America show: “Just do better, Senator.” No one was going to be offended by that.
They (Jonah and Lauren) are as believable as a couple as she and I are. I’ve never met her before… and I’m not in Hollywood either
exactly this felt like the fantasies of Jonah .come on dude at least ashton and zoe saldana were both charming
I laughed really hard at the club scene when the dealer showed up.. but that's pretty much it, the rest is a disappointment at best
Of course a 🤖 like you would make these Statements. 😂
@@mistermajestic9352 huh?
@@AJulaimid You understand me? 🤡
I liked Murphys homage to Fred Sandford, other than that I feel I've seen this movie a few times before. 5/10 for the few chuckles I got out of it but was 30 minutes too long
….his heart attack was one of my few laughs..
It’s a similar style of cringe that was popular in the early 2000s like meet the parents. I found it difficult to bear.
What a baaaaddddddd movie... Really bad jokes, bad script, bad story and bad actors! There's no connection or chemistry between actors at all. And the worst is Julia Louis-Dreyfus... In everything.
Jonah Hill looks WEATHERED. He could make a cgi movie about being an Alaskan King Crab fisher and I'd believe it.
It’s a no from me. I really suffer with the secondhand embarrassment from scenes like that. One or two in a movie, where it’s important to the plot and leads to growth and/or clarity is fine, but a whole movie’s worth would be excruciating. Especially since families with mixed cultures are so normal in my country that commenting on them in a modern setting feels anachronistic and strange (though I understand it sadly isn’t in the US, or not in parts of it anyway).
The odd thing is mixed race families, interracial relationships are very common in the US and not nearly as stigmatized as the movie would have its audience believe. Watched this movie last night and was stunned how far from the mark they were. You would think the movie was set in the 50s based on how the characters were reacting to each other. Many are saying cringe and I think the word is appropriate.
i was extremely uncomfortable just wathcing the clips that Dan chose.
Yes this movie did not exceed your expectations. Well seeing the trailer. I can tell you that it will have some shortcomings. I going to see it because I am an Eddie Murphy fan. I haven't seen Nia Long in a while.
A Pedestrian script that insults it's audience for the duration, while coming up with a Kindergarten-like "lesson to be learned" upon conclusion. Shame on you Johan!
Pretty good review. Even with the poor reviews, people are still gonna see it. It was interesting to see Eddie Murphy play that kind of role.
Could only take 20 min
I actually liked the movie! My wife (black) and I (white) really identified with a lot of moments in the movie. Yes they were over the top and charicatures at times, but it’s a comedy… that’s what they do. Maybe it’s that I come from a similar background as the guy and have also had very awkward exchanges where race is forced into conversation, but their first meeting felt pretty real to me, just more comedic. All the while, their relationship is actually cute, and I think Hill and London have chemistry. Their proposal was really sweet, and I think there was a real emotional core to the movie. My biggest critique was how they broke it off toward the end-it felt very off beat and out of line with the characters actions before. Favorite scenes were the barber shop, the car ride, and any scene with Jonah hills dad
Agreed
Jonah's dad is laid back and realistic which made him hilarious the rest were caricatures of one note people
I watched it last night and oh boy it was bad. The main leads had zero chemistry. Caricaturish and cringe.
Watching the trailer all I could think of was “guess who” with Bernie Mac and Ashton Kutcher
All of this was obvious from the terrible trailer. Well done for getting to the end. I'd have plucked my eyes out 10 minutes in.
Hey Dan, have you watched The Last Of Us? Would love to hear your thoughts on it
I assume he will do a multiple episode review or the season review
I feel like the show as a whole, does exactly what it tells the characters NOT to do..
I wanted to like this movie. A rockstar cast who were let down by some of the most leaden, asleep-at-the-wheel writing I've come across in years.
I'd dearly like to know if anyone involved in this film genuinely though this was stuff was funny, or insightful, or anything other than than a waste of time for both the cast making it and the audience who has to endure it.
Somehow i had a picture of RDJ in my head for the whole review
Just watched it. This review was spot on in my opinion.
I feel like this movie resonates more with people, such as myself, who are actually in an interracial relationship because seeing the marriage between two COMPLETELY different cultures and forcing them to work together is very challenging. I like that the characters are one note especially on the parents side because it added on to the difficulty of forcing one persons entire lively hood, culture, religion and over all way of life on to someone who you just met not only comes with pressure but also humility. I feel like if the jokes were ALOT better it would be more forgiven and i would even shorten this movie down to 90 minutes if I could to make it more cohesive
I feel like everyone will just hate watch this movie and Netflix will think it’s great and keep putting out more crap like this.
This movie had the feel of something that was made up as they went along(poorly). I never made it to the end. I think Jonah Hill thinks he’s more talented than he actually is, which is also very offputting.
Based on the bits of video and the screenshots, Julie Louis-Dreyfuss looks younger than Jonah Hill. 😆
Getting pissed off with all the advertising in this movie too, lost count of how many pairs of sneakers, im guessing kenya barris got money from nike.
I liked it a bit more but maybe that's due to the fact my wife and I are a mixed couple. Hated the bumpers between scenes though. They gave of a MTV-VIBE of 15 years ago
So much promise but just didn't deliver. Great cast and fun to see them, wish they had been given a better film.
I don't know, man. I just watched it and it was everything the trailer promised me, I enjoyed the movie, the part about Ezra's mother was very relatable. And I felt the film being genuine despite some of its shortcomings.
This sounds like it has my least favourite Hollywood trope when someone says just enough to get into a misunderstanding then instead of just clarifying what they mean they talk around the point so nothing gets resolved in order to drag out the "drama". I was just watching an episode of 911: Lone Star and while that show is hardly a stranger to insane situations for the sake of drama when it comes to relationships between characters, especially between Carlos and TK, people don't try to hide something creating a series of miscommunications that span multiple episodes. They say what is on their mind and things are resolved in a fairly realistic and reasonable way which is surprisingly rare. Especially for a show that creates some pretty ridiculous scenarios for it's characters. Yet the characters themselves feel like they're on a completely different show which is why I stick around despite how ludicrous things can get.
My son asked me if I watched this movie, when I stated no he continued to call me a racist. Fun fun
Tell him he’s racist for not watching “The Juice”.
j/k
Good review - so many others are all positive it's hard to know if it is any good.. They never actually explained why they thought it was good either....
I have a feeling I'd really dislike this film and your critique really nails it for me so I'll give it a wide berth.. Cheers.
watching this film i had to pause it so many times,i swear its frustrating asf hearing your race this or your race that or gay stuff every two seconds.i can’t believe they made a whole movie about comparing race and religion .if you havent watch this please dont
Kenya Barris is a one-trick pony. Not surprised.
I think that because they made both families wealthy, it was hard to express what are the struggles that back communities go through.
Without knowing much about the backgrounds of either family, it's hard to understand what all the fuss is about.
Why does Akbar not want Ezra to marry his daughter? Why did Akbar change his name? A lot of important details are missing that would make the audience care for the characters.
Should their be Bechdel test for characters who just talk about race
I watched this yesterday and not only is it full of caricature and cringe, the main characters show very little agency throughout. They react to the plot instead of driving the plot. Things are just happening around them and they react. Whether it's a mix up with an uber driver to their conversations about race. They are reactionary almost to a fault. And it gets so heavy handed and preachy it could be a bad Christian film. If people act this way in real life I've never seen it.
The movie was okay to me. It was meant to be silly and goofy but at the same time displaying stereotypes that actually happened in real life. I mean if you think too hard on watching a comedy then it will not be a comedy
This movie felt like it was written by a 6 year old.
