    Your pistons were manufactured by White Machine Works WMW. Which was later called Gould- Clevite. Later called Clevite owned by Dana.

    FWIW my tip would be to run tape around the big end journals as soon as you remove the rods to keep dirt out of the crank oil drillways while you work on cleaning the block etc.
    Great project and very interesting to watch. Cheers from Western Australia

    • @ScrappyIndustries
      @ScrappyIndustries  Před 5 měsíci +4

      That’s a good idea. Will do next time! I think that’s a big advantage of having the engine stood up on end is the dirt isn’t falling onto the crank

    A real old machinist over here that helps us a lot with very old machinery said the WS stampings on your liners could probably stand for Warner and Swasey which was a large mfg of construction equipment and machine tools beginning in the 1940 s. Hope this helps you. Bill

    The best sleeve puller i have seen, but not used, is the one Deboss used when they disassembled their Cummins 8.3. Those two little jaws are asking for trouble on a stuck sleeve. The one Deboss used enguaged a much bigger portion of the sleeve, called an EZ pull. They even supplied a gearwrench rachet because they didn't want people using a gun on it. If you check out his "Everything wrong with an 8.3" video the link is in the description, much better design IMO.

    Boy I remember the old Bay City Machinery & American Host plants from my childhood years and remember when the plant shut down when I was a teenager. It was rough times for Bay City MI back then. Now the site where all those machines where made is now a big medical complex and a commercial development. It took 40 years before the city started to recover from both the American Host/ Bay City Machinery not to mention the GM plant slow down. I lost a lot of friends when their dads who lost their jobs moved away to find work. Bay City used to have a place called Defoe Ship yards that built ships during WW2.... a lot has changed in the last 70 years😢

      I will strongly suggest you may have wanted to see them but NEVER work in them. My dad worked in a FORD plant that was a few hundred thousand square feet, but filled with machining centers with open oil baths. If you have never seen this, it produces oil mist that fills all the available air you can breathe with oil mist. Class A carcinogens for everyone to breathe. So many of his friends died of lung cancer as they all smoked liked chimnneys. Lived hard and died hard. Different world then for a fact. Safety 3rd!@@ScrappyIndustries

    It makes my heart so happy when watching your videos and also Matt's [ Diesel Creek ]. Not easy to find young guys actaully wanting to save and work on or repair old equiptment. If I remember corretnly Matt said the only thing that was wrong with the parts washer was that it was too loud, and had been in his family for a while. Love that you are rebuilding a 1941 cat engine. Awesome! Enjoy your video, Sam, Keep em coming. Appreicate your hard work...Gentle Hugs to both your Dogs..

    After engine rebuild, run three quarts of ATF in place of oil, it'll clean the oil passages and strip any crud and carbon in places unseen. Run it for a good 15-20 hours on that oil mix at temperature, then change oil and oil filters. Should run like new after that.

    She’s probably going to need starting fluid unless she’s already been run and is still good and warm. If you wanted to do something different you could go with an intake grid heater from a 5.9 Cummins or even an old Therm-O-Start screwed into the intake somewhere. I think Fords and some Yanmar imports had them. Pretty cool device that actually burns diesel in the intake to warm it up!

    Noticed you off- setting the ring gaps, Sam. Once bought a used 6 cylinder Chevy 1/2 ton
    at a bargain price . Worked fine but before I drove 2 miles after the purchase noticed smoke pouring out the back. Local garage said compression was good & replaced valve guides that they said were the cause of the smoke. This did nothing. Not a mechanic, but pulled the pistons, and rings all looked brand new ........but on all six pistons the gaps were lined up letting the oil pour through. Wish had seen this video years ago. LOL.
