  • Do-It-Yourself Motorized Chute Blocker - Toro Timemaster
    Part 3: Mechanical Components
    This video was filmed and edited on March 17, 2022. This is my Do-It-Yourself version of a chute blocker that I installed on my 2021 Toro Timemaster. I've been using this basic design for the past 4 years on all my finish mowers with some small changes on each mower over the years.

    Excellent design.
    If you could come up with a few simple, and affordable universal chute blockers for small push mowers and also commercial grade units it could be a very profitable endeavor. I think the main reason you don't see shoot blockers on a regular basis is the cost is quite high.

    On the chute, do you think just using a 1/4” socket extension about 6” long would work instead of welding a socket on a rod? Then drill out 1/8” holes for the roll pins?

    • @BillyGoatLawnService
      @BillyGoatLawnService  Před 2 lety +1

      @@BillyGoatLawnService I was thinking that. Maybe drill out the holes on the bracket larger to slide it through. I also thought about just using a 4’ square rod that is 1/4” instead of round so I won’t need to shave the rod down. I found a 4’ square rod for about $3

    Good morning Billy! I'm surprised, that you haven't submitted your idea(s) for inventions and/or to Toro!?!?!? I have noticed, that our Honda push mowers have the rear discharge chute. What are your thoughts/opinions on those?

    • @BillyGoatLawnService
      @BillyGoatLawnService  Před 2 lety +1

      I thought about it 4 years ago but since then there are so many variations of chute blockers on CZcams now. As far as Honda and other mowers having a rear discharge chute is ok, but for us to be fast and efficient we need to be able to switch from mulching to discharge on the fly or use a bagger if necessary.

      First off - brilliant idea! And extremely well done video explaining everything. I installed the chute blocker with every part mentioned. Works great, BUT .. as noted here already, the chute doesn't stay closed under a heavy mulch load. I had to resort to a short bungee to keep the chute closed when mulching 3" grass. Wondering if anyone has made any modifications to this design to address this problem?
