I also saw Elf open for Purple, I thought who is this Tiny Tim looking dude with enormous voice. That was the Stormbringer tour, of the perhaps 15 times that was "the WORST" Blackmore ever was playing from offstage half the time, talking to some girls in chairs right offstage. I knew it was over. He was just so not into it. The ti.e before being CalJam and he clearly was making the statement this IS the best band in the world.

One thing I always find endearing about Lars is his genuine love and fanaticism of heavy metal. Metal was fairly new at the time. I was blessed. In Australia, I'd met Ronnie after a Rainbow gig in late 76, then interviewed him in late 80. We bonded. We were fellow travellers, but HE saw it long before I did. Every time we met after that, I was made to feel like family. I was nobody, just a fan following my passion for music. During a visit to LA in March 84, I spent a couple of evenings with him at Sound City (pre-production rehearsals) & then after a Sydney show in 86. We spoke about trivial stuff, but we also got deep. He would always engage you on your common ground... never made you feel other than his equal & his friend. Visiting LA in May 87 hoping to touch base, his office told me he was busy mixing his new album. So much for that, I thought. Later that day, I get a message at my hotel from someone I'd not heard of, inviting me to the Record Plant. I get there not knowing what to expect. The second head to emerge from the control room was Ronnie himself & gestured for me to enter. I spent most of the next week in that control room watching, listening & learning from the master. At the end of each session, he would re-invite me to the next day's session. During a break one evening, he said, "I suppose you're wondering why I keep asking you back." I told him the thought had occurred but I'd said nothing because I didn't want to break the mojo. "The reason is that you're a professional & you understand that this is our profession & you really appreciate the opportunity... you don't over-talk or distract us, you don't spill your drink on the console...". I said how could I not treat the opportunity like gold... who could do otherwise? "You'd be surprised", he said. Respect was everything to Ronnie and he loved sharing his life with people who understood that. The last time we saw each other was in NZ in 2007, after a H+H gig where he kicked the ass of every 30-year-old in the room. The big hug, then Ronnie filling me in on what my friend in Brisbane had been up to & how he loved meeting my friend's family in Oz the night before. Then we got deep. It had been 20 years & was as if no time had passed. I still have his music & these extraordinary memories, but I've lost that part of myself that I left in his care.

Couldn't get a ticket even from a scalper, was bummed but my friends went in and I listened to the concert outside! His voice pierced through the building like I was inside the arena. Like he knew I couldn't get inside and he sang louder so I could enjoy the concert! That was my thought. His voice was so powerful like nothing I had heard before, well maybe Rob Halford of Judas Priest! Ronnie was and will always be one of the best singers of my era hands down!! Always thought he was English but turns out he was from Bedford New Hampshire of all places! I used to live in New Hampshire, Bedford is a very small town. Good to see a small town boy make a huge name for himself, the world misses you Ronnie, you will always be remembered for your contributions in music!

I don't understand how all these religious assholes were giving Ronnie shit about being a devil worshiper and glorifying Satan. I mean did they even listen to the fucking lyrics? All of his songs, even with Sabbath, he is clearly stating to beware of the dark side, that there are dire consequences for dabbling in black magic and all of that shit. "The devil is never a maker, the less that you give, you're a taker." He never once praised Satan or endorsed darkness and evil. People are so fucking stupid, it's just tragic. And the horn symbol is from his old Italian grandmother, who was raised in the old country. That sign was to ward off the evil eye and turn dark energy back against the sender.

@@blaineedwards8078 I think it was fear and imagery. You have to admit, some of his album logos were scary for the day. But, like you said, if you listened to his lyrics, you could see he was the exact opposite of a devil worshiper. Back then though, there was hardly anyway to get the truth and people wanted to ruin what they didn't understand or feared.

Dio always said hate was a neccesity to the human cancer, like eating and sleeping. Well here it is. People cant even respect artists who respect each other. The apathy and moral decay of this world is astonishing. This video is supposed to be about Dio, but idiots always turn it into a Metallica sucks blog. So sad what the human conditioning has become. All these artists are still better than all the crap on the radio.

You said it...Half a joint and a beer! He didn't abused it and that's when it becomes a problem and plus he was gifted and blessed as a child with an extraordinary voice! He was for the most part a straight guy in the R&R business if you compare it to the life of R&R musicians or the life of any in the music business. Now let's be fair!🤣
