Hey there folks, Mark recently recorded a matchup where he compares pre-AC/DC Bon Scott to pre-AC/DC Brian Johnson. He looks at "Seasons of Change" from when Bon was in Fraternity, and he compares that to "Don't Do That" from Brian's days in Geordie. It's a really fun video, and Mark talks quite a bit about Brian's book "The Lives Of Brian: A Memoir."

When this came out we bought in alright, every song was a winner on this album. You’re right we were sceptical, but took about 2 mins of You Shook Me All Night Long to convince us to buy the album. That was the first radio hit from the album.

Unfortunately, I was just a little too young to realize the change in singers. I'm reasonably sure the first AC/DC I heard was the Dirty Deeds album, but I was a kid, and I didn't understand/know anything about Bon's death until a little later.
So I'm glad I wasn't off with that statement. From what I read, almost everyone had your reaction. Skepticism at first. Like, how is this going to work?
And then Malcolm started those riffs, Angus started those leads, and Brian belted it out, and everything was good in the world again.
Thanks for checking this video out. I hope you take a look at some of our other videos, too.

In 1980 , AC/DC released the album in Australia, with a sellout concert in Sydney, that was a raging success, followed by a national tour. Their loyal fans were still loyal, and still are.
That's thing, most of their Australian fans considered them as potential friends, just because one guy can't be there, don't mean you can't party.

Brian was singing in a group called Geordie. Bon had actually gone to a show of theirs and he was blown away by Brian's performance. He wasn't particularly impressed with his voice, but he was impressed by his energy. It just so happened that Brian was having an appendicitis attack that night on stage. He was literally rolling around and shrieking on the stage floor from all of the pain. Bon was super drunk and didn't even realize that Brian was having a medical emergency. He went to practice the next day and told Angus and Malcolm that if anything ever happened to him, they should get Brian to replace him. He had no idea what Brian's real singing voice sounded like. He thought the shrieking was the norm, but it wasn't. You can Search videos for Brian singing with Geordie, and you'll be shocked. He didn't sound anything like he does with AC DC. He created that "new singing voice" to try to stay true to the sound that Bon had created for the band. It just so happened that the night Bon saw him, he was in agony and his voice was strained due to his pain level. Poor Brian was just trying to get through the set, and Bon thought it was the norm for him to sound like he did. He made it his norm, after he used it for the audition, and was hired by AC DC .

Before I recorded that video, I read Brian Johnson's autobiography, and Brian did indeed meet Bon when Bon was playing with Fraternity, but he says that sadly, he was too drunk to remember much about it. I talk about it in the video I linked above.

Just great musicians doing their thing & having a good time thank you very much. The loss of Bon Scott was terrible, but Brian Johnson was the best 2nd front man for this band & has long made it his own. xoxo

Yeah, I just finished Brian's autobiography, and he writes about that stuff. He says he was so nervous about the gig, but the fans, and even Bon's mom and brothers, made him feel so welcome that he got over that nervousness really quickly and started to view himself as kind of a way to honor Bon.

"Highway to Hell" is about the endless, relentless touring with bandmates in the USA, but it's also the nickname of the Canning Highway in Perth, Western Australia. The short Canning Highway ends at a pub that Bon Scott use to frequent. The Canning was notorious for the deaths that occurred at intersections, "No stop signs... speed limits... nobody gonna slow me down." All the crap that came from those claiming that ACDC were devil worshippers just fired the band up and "they took the piss", all the way to the bank.

I think the real beauty of songs like this is that yeah, there's a literal, biographical reading of the song. But because the lyrics are so well written, there are also other interpretations of the lyrics that are equally valid, and I think one of the primary reasons why AC/DC's music is so universal.

Growing up in the 70’s and 80’s in Western Sydney where the Young’s were raised Aussie Pub Rock was a way of life.I was 8 when Back in Black dropped and you gotta remember there was no internet or videos or MTV around hell we just got a colour tv that year, so information was limited and ACCA in Australia apart from Countdown or magazines still didn’t get the airplay or publicity on mainstream cause they were deemed too rude and crude so their popularity came from their own hard work and grit n determination to take it overseas and get the recognition. So the anticipation to hear this new sound with Brian was huge, my brother who was 5 yrs older and myself walked and hour and a half to his music teachers house who was picking up this new album and to hear that opening bell still gives me chills, my brother died two years later at 17 yrs he lived every day like it was his last hard drinking, fast woman and hot cars even that young.RIP Shane and Bon

A friend and I were talking about walk-on songs that bands use. So, when a big band comes on stage, what song do they use? For example, Metallica alway walks out to "The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly." So we were talking about bands who walk out to songs, and we realized that a ton of big bands walk out to AC/DC songs. From "Thunderstruck" to "Hells Bells" to "Highway To Hell," lots of bands use AC/DC.
And what does AC/DC walk out to? More AC/DC.

Talk about a rock band done perfectly, AC/DC had rock 'n roll figured out long before the glam rock came knockin' and powered their way through so many eras of rock that it's absolutely mind blowing. This is one of the many, many reasons why AC/DC is a MUST in my car whenever I take a road trip - - I don't think I've ever been in vthe car for longer than an hour without headbanging to a few of the classics. (Pretty sure my steering wheel has been used as a makeshift drum far more than actually steering the car.) And the last thing I'll say is that at the first of the year my wife and I spent some time in Australia, and when we were in Melbourne, the only thing I wanted to do was roam around the CBD and see all the murals and bas reliefs to Bon and the band.
