Bryan Robson, Captain Marvel is often described as the greatest captain of them all! Robbo had thirteen dynamic seasons at Old Trafford, with highs including the 1991 Cup Winners Cup triumph, 3 FA cup wins and being part of league title winning squads in both of his final years. Signed for a then British record of £1.5mil in 1981, Bryan Robson joined Ron Atkinson's side with high expectations. But it was alongside Sir Alex Ferguson that he helped us develop from a cup side into the dominant force in English football. We've spoken to the people who witnessed Bryan Robson close up, the youngsters he inspired, and us the fans to hear views on one of our greatest midfielders. Let us know what you think about Robbo in the comments below…

Denis Law next lads, the original king and great content. 👍
I watched Eric's Utd debut vs Benfica, his1st goal away vs Chelsea (the last pay at the gate away game),I'm in the famous picture where he's running for his life v Wimbledon 92/93 & even chewed the fat with him about Jim Morison & The Doors at the Camp Nou in 94, I could go on but the best thing is that I named my daughter after him. Erica Georgina is a great name. Regards, Raver Wythenshawe Red

God's at Utd was weird seeing them most of them were only a year older than me 😂😂😂😂😂 grown up with them with UTD
I’m a Liverpool fan since the 1970s. I always admired Bryan Robson and he was always the difference when Man Utd beat Liverpool in the 1980s. Robson was the complete footballer. As a Liverpool fan through and through I could not give a bigger compliment than that.
Bryan Robson - THE best footballer I have seen in my lifetime & THE best captain, leader and inspiration. There’s not enough superlatives that could best describe Robbo
remember getting in a fight with a kid playing football in the park because we both wanted to be robbo , still my fave ever player .
i got my ass kicked btw , we are still friends 35 years later and i got my own back and then lost again , lol we had a few fights you know who you are . love u r kid .
forgot all about this its funny how somethig triggers the memory and now its like yesterday
The United fan on the right knows his stuff. Good lad
His dominance over souness in the 83 charity shield was awesome. Scored twice and hacked down for a 3rd by souness . Legend
Us fans that saw robbo play were truly blessed there was no one like him. A young robbo in fergie’s later years we would have won more champions leagues.
Bryan Robson was the definitive Manchester United captain - he carried this club for 10 years, played in ordinary sides but always gave his all - his performance against Barcelona in 1984 & 1991 were the stuff legends are made of - he was a Legend no question
he still is a legend his photo is enlarged in the united souvenir shop alongside G best ,
Keane was better
Liam Gallagher Noel’s better than you
@@WakaWaka2468 So you're more of a cricket fan then?
He wad injured too much
he made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, I used to stand on the stretty and during the warm up I rarely took my eyes off him, I loved it when the stretty would acknowledge him in the warm up with "one Bryan Robson, theres only one Bryan Robson" .. As a kid I knew he was the legend of modern day Man Utd, many years later I saw him in one of those legends games at o.t, he only did the warm up I think, but his warm up routine hadnt changed one bit from when I used to stand on the stretty, I had my boys with me that day and it brought a tear to my eye to see Robbo on the pitch again in red.
He was simply awesome, so much natural ability, talent, the most courageous player I've ever seen at utd, he tried, he absolutely always always tried!!
the way he would gee his players up, encouraging them and showing them how it's done! my god I'm so lucky to have seen Robbo play.
I was so proud to have him at our club, and every football fan in the land knew he was the best too.
"Robbo sort them out Robbo Robbo sort them out!!!" and he always did too, he never let us down ever.
He brought so much joy in otherwise dark times, take a look at his goals on youtube you younger fans, the man was off the scales and he loved, loved Man Utd
I was heaving around in the streford end too, and loving it, he embodied everything we wanted from the team
Well written post you spoke for me there as well
@@billybigtime2808 thank you Billy 👍👍👍👍👍
@@paulsheridan5693 great memories Paul, we will never forget the old stretty! 👍👍
I was so glad Robbo finally lifted the Premier League trophy. After all the years of hard work he put in.. There's only one Bryan Robson.
Robbo was my hero growing up. He was our team for much of the 80’s.
Met my hero in Dublin in 1991 signed my book and still have it absolutely a English legend of a player pure gold
Been lucky enough to have met him,he is a legend and an inspirational player, captain marvel!from a villa fan
Bryan robson what a true captain combative fearless leader and so happy he got his hands on a league title he really deserved it
I'm a Newcastle fan and I was convinced he would finish his career in a Newcastle shirt - Gutted he went to Boro! A true legend of the game.
Robbo must be in everyone’s all time 11, I’ve been going since 1965 and seen some great players but he’s first on my team sheet. Goog show again lads.
I was there in 81 when robbo signed for us. Sammy Mac who robbo was kind of brought in to replace scored a great hatrick in that game as well. I was locked out in 84 sadly...was there outside the ground but couldn't get a ticket to get in. Robbo was absolutely brilliant, a class player and a class man.
Not a United fan but Robbo, what a fantastic player. Captain Marvel. Carried Utd and England. God knows how good he would've been without the injuries. Imagine prime Robbo and Keane together!!
Bryan Robson my hero still to this day no one better than robbo he was the best midfeilder in the world and i still reckon that to this day he still the best ever im old school love by manchester united fans
5 years old, surrounded by Liverpool fans. School playground everyone would pretend to be a player, Im gonna be Rush, I'm gonna be Barnes. I wanted to be Robson. The reason I started following United. He was immense.
Bryan Robson was one of best. United players of all time. He was born - leader he carried the theam I rember him, scoring in the 1990 Cup Final against. Crystal Palace 3-3 he won us the European Cup Winner Cup in 1991, he was known as. Captain Marvel, ⚽🏆
My hero then and now . Greatest ever
Named my first son after Bryan Robson . Best England captain since Bobby moore . And best united captain in my life time .
Carried Man Utd on his back for years.Fantastic player & so underated by todays fans & media alike. Greatest England captain too..led by example & barring injuries would have won record number of caps....Fastest goal ever in World Cup V France 1982.....caps.He truly was Captain Marvel.
im 44 an hes still my hero
My dad was a Hughes supporter and loved Man Utd. Bryan Robson was the reason I fell in love with Man Utd
Being born in 87 I missed most of his career but hearing about him off older reds
what a man
85 Fa cup semi final against Liverpool. That goal. Went berserk. Loved that man. Epitomised Manchester United.
A true leader.
I have followed United since 1963 The first name on my team sheet from players I have seen play is Bryan Robson. Followed by the trinity.
Immense. My favourite player as a kid, remember him popping up on Jossy's Giants!
He was my hero as a kid. Captain Marvel in every way. Great video lads
My absolute hero.
I was at Old Trafford that night V Barcelona, he absolutely controlled the game.
But semi final goals V Liverpool FA Cup goal.
Absolutely amazing footballer
Bryan Robson - Captain Marvel
What a football player and a gentleman
What a player!! Absolutely fearless & a great leader. One of the Old Trafford Greats 👍
Absolute class player who gave his all for us(Manchester United)another memorable game v Liverpool 1985 fa cup semi final replay at main road ran through onto a Frank Stapleton flick and unleashed a ferocious shot from 30 yards which turned the tie in our favour.what a goal and what a legend to.
Cracking player as a Nufc fan I was in awe of him, great video
Barcelona 84 and Maine Rd 85 come straight to mind straightaway but was much much more than that...remember standing there hearing the team come over the tannoy as was the way then and when he was missing you could feel the ground deflate..yes remember him doing the shoulder on the advertising boards...btw absolutely loved his goal at Wimbledon in 93 that was meant to be!!..
Amazing watch this channel lads keep it going!👍
My favourite player of all time. From a Darlington fan so not swayed by club loyalty. Carried a club for years,
the first goal in the semi replay against the bin dippers is my favourite memory in addition to Barca in 84
He was an inspiration to us growing up. Carried the side on his shoulders. An absolute giant.
85 fa cup replay Never forget his goal ...allways gave his all ..hit the nail on the head phil he defo gave us hope ..legend...best 1.5 mil they spent ever...
Robbo was such a hero in the 1980s. His passion in the big games against Liverpool was unbelievable. There is no doubt that a fit Robson would have got England into a world Cup final back in those days....he was up there with with Maradona, Platini in terms of influence and intimidation.
Bryan Robson was an inspirational football player.
He could've played in any football team at any level.
Big Ron was right
"He was pure Gold"
What a player for us and England!!!!!!!!Ive been a Man Utd fan 47years.Him and Steve Coppell were my idols.I remember being in the Trent End with my Forest fan mate.Season wasnt going great.Forest fans were singing your bald your fat youre going to get the sack Atkinson.Your going down with the Villa. But what stood out was the whole of the Trent End applauding our Captain Marvel Bryan Robson. No players like him nowadays.
Definitely my favourite all time Utd player
Always gave his all for the club
A true living legend 🥰🥰🥰
That Barcelona game we got on the pitch after the whistle blew and mobbed Robbo (one of the only few times I've been on the telly) but that game wasn't a one off for Robbo he carried us many times,The semi final v The Mickeys at Maine Rd he was immense, just 2 of many great games the legend Bryan Robson had for us.
I have the honor of being his photographer when he was in Singapore some years back. My childhood hero. Came across as a genuine nice and warm person. Cannot believe it.. I actually hada few private conversations with him...
Was my idol growing up as a kid...the ultimate example of a true box to boxmidfielder and absolutely fearless and an absolute inspiration
*Robson is still the first name on my United all time best 11.* I loved/love Robbo.
G Art mine too
@@alanchadwick2646 Just to say. My all time top United 11 (80s onward) a is:
Schmeichel, Neville, Stam, Vidic, Irwin, Giggs, Scholes, Robson, Ronaldo, Cantona, RVN.
Subs bench: Rooney, Keane, Hughes, Beckham, Evra, VDS, Rio, Pallister, McGrath, Whiteside, Parker, Moran.
Growing up robbo was always there, from when i first got in to football from about 8 til i was in my early 20s, there was a time i couldn't imagine united without him.. Remi moses was part of the deal if i remember.. He was a good player, my first hero was Steve coppell... It was the exciting football that drew me to united, without even understanding the game, but it looked exciting.. Great show as always boys.. Ps, re robbo, he was a proper hard man, didn't give it the bigun like souness.. Like all united greats he could play, but if you wanted to get naughty, he could more than handle himself, and throw in a bit extra
Bryan Robson the best Manchester United midfield player. I remember his equaliser against Liverpool in the 85 FA cup semi final replay but his greatest performance has to be against Barcelona in 84 Cup winners cup QF when he turned the 2nd leg on it's head with his two goals.
My Grandad ❤ and Bryan Robson is why I became a United fan I was born in 1976 GLORY GLORY MAN UTD seen it all lived and loved it THE REDS GO MARCHING ON ON ON
ROBBO was what United were built on .... a hard man that would play injuried with knocks and he didn't complain he gave everything when he played and left it on the pitch every game. Robbo and keano the 2 warriors.
My dad was at the Barcelona game and he said it’s the best atmosphere he’s ever experienced at Old Trafford.
I was in the stretford end and the atmosphere was electric!
paul mcmullen I bet. I was just a bit too young to go. Started going to Old Trafford in November 1985.
After the draw with Villa the other day I was thinking back to when my bedroom wall had the huge team photo with Bryan Robson sat next to Ron Atkinson at the front. In my 40's and he remains THE childhood hero for us United fans while Liverpool were winning everything. Not sure I can imagine what its like for kids now....Nice poster of Fred on the bedroom wall?
Bryan Robson was a hero and rightly so. I am a Liverpool supporter and draw a direct comparison with Robson’s demise as a player with that of Steven Gerrard, whose retirement inadvertently led to his team’s rise to prominence in his absence. Similarly with BR, as Roy Keane and Paul Ince inspired United to unprecedented success for many years. I am sure there are other clubs with players of the same ilk but these two stand out in my mind. It is ironic that such great players had to watch from the sidelines as their teams enjoyed career defining success. Whilst they may have felt enormous pride and satisfaction in their club’s achievements, they must also have been quietly saddened not to have played a bigger part in those times. Robson deserved success at international level too, but it was not to be.
Im same age aa neville butt scholes & my idol too was Bryan Robson ❤️
ROBBO, Captain Marvel , along with Ronaldo, my favourite United player. As a kid I remember the day Big Ron signed him, saying something like he's worth every penny of the £ 1million we paid. Turned out he was worth at least four times as much . Bryan Robson, the, United, player of the 80's carried the team on his back, and was at his inspirational best when United, were in trouble and needed him the most. Robbo, always gave 100% even when his many injuries hampered him. Sadly, many of today's younger United fans who only know the history from the 90's don't know just how talismanic, and great a player Bryan Robson was. Robbo along with Roy Keane were the two best captain's United ever had and one of the truly great # 7's. Bryan Robson is and always will be a United legend .
Robson, Hughes and Jesper Olsen were my heroes as a young kid. Legends
...and Stapleton. Great days...
Every kid in my school wanted to be Bryan Robson. Apart from the 1 or 2 glory hunting scouse fans. They got Robson style tackles in the playground
He was my favourite player unbelievably brilliant wish we had
Like him now would be brilliant 👏 👌 😀
Great video lads. Robson was an absolute legend. I remember when I met him when I was working in Coop head office. Had my photo taken with him a few days before we won the FA CUP final and then we sacked Van Gaal. He used to grab the game by the scruff of the neck and lift the players around him.
Bryan Robson was an inspiration for me and still is my favorite manchester united player of all time and by far the best midfielder, he was box to box, good tackler, scored goals and good goals but it was his grit and determination that inspired me this was a player that played his heart out for the club but in a way, I wish he had managed his body better and not commit all the time
Captain marvel loved the guy true hero Manchester United legend
That is what I miss about united. REAL LEADERS in the team.
I wasn’t alive when George Best was playing for United but every time I got a new United top as a kid it had a number 7 on the back and it was only down to Robbo wearing it.
Simple leader so proud to watch.him put his life on the line for our club cockney.jon top show bucket webby
My favourite player when growing up legend
Grew up watching him. Top draw, top tier, and perhaps not the very top as a footballer in talent terms, but in a very broad general term beyond just 'skill' - he brought everything. Fearless, hard, brave, goalscorer, box to box, commitment, leadership, war, and his injuries which limited appearances were all from those and more. Unbelieveable player for my team and for England.
Can we just take a minute to look at 1.5 million for a player in 1981, that is absolutely insane money then, what a legend
You guys be doing a great job, cheers and hope you bring us more top-quality content to enjoy and reminisce, cant wait for the season to start to begin banter with mi mates and family
My hero then and now . Only one Bryan Robson
Phil Neville was so right, Robbo gave us hopes in the 80’s (and especially in the school playground with all Liverpool supporters). I remember picking out a centrefold poster of him (in the Sunday Time magazine circa 1988) with all his previous injuries in his career and proudly place it on my wall.
Met him a couple of times too, once was outside Old Trafford autograph hunting before a Spurs match (Linekar was playing) and met him another time while working as a waiter in Hilton Cobham over Christmas, the whole United team came to stay prior to the Wimbledon match. Both times Robbo left a deep impression on me.
My hero too. Always will be my most favorite player.
Quality series this is lads looking back at legends
Best Utd channel bar none. Love the way the boys make you feel involved with their discussions
True....He really put united back on the map
The best
Another great video...thanks guys 🇾🇪🇾🇪
robson a real footballer ,he carried mufc on his own .driving us on,when we didnt have such a great team.he got so many injurys because he always gave 110%.loved to watch him.if remi moses had not got crocked ,they would have made a great dou.
My first choice in my Best Ever United XI and captain too. And I've been watching the Reds since the 60s.
If you had to pick 11 players from all time to save your life Bryan robson would be one of the first names on that team sheet.
Watching your videos I can see why Man U are a champion team...... All about culture........
Bryan Robson was my hero and still is the best ever ture legend I even had his football boots when I was younger they where called Robson silver new balance
I was in a room full of palace fans when wright scored to make it 3 2 , the camera panned on to robbo ,teeth gritted shaking his fist at our players while palace were celerbrating.1990 cup final
Just brilliant
Spot on 👍🏻
Robbo was the BEST CM Utd have ever had!!
My favourite player of all time. He would win the ball on the edge of his own box, play an inch perfect ball down the wing to a young Giggs or Lee Sharp, and when the ball was crossed , Robbo would be on the end of it. And as he sprinted forward he would be directing the rest of the team as he goes. He would cover every blade of grass during a game, and he did this week in, week out for over a decade. For me, he's the best English central midfielder of all time.
Not a Utd fan ( but have Brothers& Cuz'n who are ) and I can remember watc5hi as a kid for WBA ( under Atkinson) and they were a tremendously exciting Team to watch& then he moves with Remi Moses ( who was a early version of Edgar Davids) But Robson was fantastic for Man U& England, lead by example & respected around the World!..
But I remember him once playing as a ' Sweeper' for England& he was fantastic!
And only a certain kind of player could play that role, and Robson looked in his element!
*To put Bryan Robson into perspective for younger fans:* The closest comparison, to how United fans saw Robson, is (please forgive), how Liverpool fans see Gerrard, but, more so. *Remember that Robson was not only captain Marvel for United but England too.* I think Maradona is still in his pocket.
G Art..good assessment..mine would be for younger fans think Roy Keane.. then add 50% cos he played in an average team compared to Roy and carried that team..if Keane and robbo played in the same team..we'd have been unbeatable!!👹
Robbo was the last decent captain England had, I've always said f he had played in that hand of god game against Argentina Maradona would not have run through that midfield and scored, I just wished he had managed his body better but that's not the character of the man he was a lion
@@thefullenergychannel2879 I don't think Ten pints 3 times a week helped either.
@@gart9680 Immagine if he had been around today how much fitter he would have been players no longer drink like they used to do
When you look back and remember just how good the Liverpool side that Robbo and Ray had to attempt to try and dominate was, you realise what excellent players they both were.
He is what Paul Pogba thinks he is.
He is what we thought Paul Pogba would be.
There is only one.
(For the brickheads out there this is no criticism of Pogba.)
I got a massive bollocking from the school headmaster, after yet another misdemeanour when I was about 8. Knowing I loved football he asked me who my favourite player was and I said Robbo. My headmaster used Robbson’s determination, effort and commitment to inspire me to stop being a little shit. It worked for the remainder of the afternoon anyway.
Max leigh grace 88 😂👍🏻
If you watch robbo burst into the box he got hacked kicked you name it but he never dived he carried on and put it in it he could even if he got injured doing it a lesson to many of these cheats
Captain marvel 🇾🇪
Amazing didn't know this!
I don't know who passed the ball to Sparky, who passed it to Norman Whiteside (1-0 in added time). It Might have been Robbo down the line. All I know is that perticular moment in the 1985 FA-cup final is the earliest United memory I remember. That's when I became a United supporter and Robbo was our NUMBER ONE! When I put on a Sharp-United jersey, I think of Robbo. Bryan Robson is my hero and will forver be.
The best goal Robbo scored for Utd... 1985 maine Rd semi final replay v Liverpool..
Any United, player, who wants to wear either the armband or the number 7 shirt should be shown a video of Bryan Robson. So they know what greatest is and what expected from the wearer of the armband and number 7 shirt at Manchester United.
Phil Neville, great comments lad 👏👏👏
