October 20th, 2012. Danny âSwiftâ Garcia defended his WBA, WBC & The Ring Light Welterweight Championships against Erik Morales aka âEl Terribleâ in a rematch 7 months after their 1st encounter.
Prefight records; Garcia 23(14)-0, Morales 52(36)-8.
In July 2012, he successfully retained his WBC Light Welterweight Title in his 1st defense against Amir âKingâ Khan where he also captured the WBA Super World Light Welterweight & The Ring Magazine Light Welterweight Titles via TKO4.
3 months after he dethroned King Khan, he went on to face Morales (who turned 36 a month earlier) in a rematch with his WBA, WBC & The Ring Light Welterweight Titles on the line.
Entering his 61st pro bout, Morales who was a former Quadruple World Champion at Super Bantamweight, Featherweight, Super Featherweight & Light Welterweight had defeated top oppositions such as Remigio Daniel Molina, Armando Castro, In Jin Chi, Wayne McCullough, Paulie Ayala, Marco Antonio Barrera, Jose Luis Bueno, Carlos Hernandez, José Alfaro, Hector Sanchez, Jesus Chavez, Angel Sanchez, Daniel Zaragoza, Kevin Kelley, Manny Pacquiao & Guty Espadas (2x) while unbeaten 24 year old Garcia had notable wins over Nate Campbell, Kendall Holt, Amir Khan & Erik Morales.
In contrast with their 1st bout, Garcia had little to no troubles against the weathered legend who looked every bit his age from the opening bell despite putting up his best efforts against the younger man.
In rounds 1 & 2, both fighters exchanged and connected at near equal measure but the championâs right hands to the solar plexus & left hooks to the liver were particularly efficient in slowing Morales down.
In round 3, Garciaâs body work started to pay dividends as he was able to land upstairs and downstairs effectively whilst taking minimal punishment from the fading challenger. With 5 seconds left in the round, he landed a big right hook that badly hurt Morales who wobbled his way to the wrong corner after the bell.
In round 4, Morales was decked with a gargantuan left hook that spun him around which prompted his corner to step into the ring as referee Benjy Estevez Jr waved off the bout without a count.
After the defeat, Erik Morales hung up his gloves with a final record of 52(36)-9 after an illustrious 19 year career that spanned across 3 different decades & 6 weight divisions.
âEl Terribleâ is widely recognized as one of the Greatest Mexican Fighters of All Time along the likes of Miguel Canto, Carlos ZĂĄrate, Juan Manuel MĂĄrquez, Vicente Saldivar, RubĂ©n Olivares, Salvador SĂĄnchez, Marco Antonio Barrera, Rodolfo Casanova, Ricardo LĂłpez, Baby Arizmendi & Julio CĂ©sar ChĂĄvez.

Garcia would never beat a prime Morales... never.
That's right.
It's wild that Morales was even still fighting here, especially at 140 pounds. He was so soft and flabby and old. Man's best years were the late 90's and his best weight class was 126 pounds and lower. Thats the way it goes though. Young men beating up the old lions.
But the fact is that Garcia fought an old Morales because of their age difference. Also, a prime Morales would never fought GarcĂa because of their weight difference (Morales' prime was from featherweight to lightweight, GarcĂa always fought from super lightweight to heavier categories) Maybe it's sad, but time is king, no matter who were you in the past.
Mexican always have the million excuses every time they get KO
No excuses, he took the fights, win or lose the outcome is final!
I remember this like it was last week. I love it because around this time, boxing was doing very well. Danny made it this far and Morralas was a test for him to see was he really ready to be a "legit" champion. He was already I think WBA but this was to see did he really belong to be up there. I can't remember but I think Lucas was next and Lucas was the favorite to win. Danny to me could've stayed at 140 but I know he knew he was ready.
This was the rematch, Garcia fought earlier that year when he knocked out Khan in a unification where he won the WBA title and defended the WBC title. He fought Judah after this and then the great fight with Mattysse.
Morales was a shell of a shell of a shell here
Love the 2 fighters but Morales was seriously overmatched. Really looked his age.
Father Time is undefeated
Was a great but upsetting knockout. poor Morales
đ€đ€
He caught him perfect. I still like both but the winner is the winner

đźâđš
Does anybody give Danny Garcia credit for this win lol..and did it worked did he became a superstar for knocking out a legend NO lol..morales went straight to the HOF
He only knocked an old warrior he would never beat Morales in his prime
Garcia the Mexican assassin đ
Años atrĂĄs no le hubiera hecho nada al terrible es lĂłgico ya estaba casi en retiro đ
Morales was so shot to pieces here, the fact this is a highlight for Garcia just shows you how underwhelming his career is.
