In part because of his own personal experiences of racism, Phil wanted to create somewhere where everyone would be welcome - Manchester’s first racially inclusive nightclub, the Reno, was born.
The nightclub became a particularly important space for Manchester's mixed heritage community, who felt unwelcome in city centre venues.
Phil’s youngest daughter, Lisa Ayegun has been sharing her memories of the Reno.

Crazy how, no matter where black people are. Trying to get a leg up in our lives is a struggle not felt by many.. So many obstacles that we have to overcome just to be successful. I salute all those who never gave up and settled on life as a black person.. Power to the People

Same goes to the Chinese (Can be argued that they had it worse than black people) and the Indian people.

Sadly, I never went to this club.....a number of friends I knew went and said how good it was. However; I did go to the "front" on many occasions. People from Manchester will know what I mean LOL

I feel bad for the woman’s father who was forced to close his club on the flimsy pretence of the road being extended, like she said it doesn’t sound like it was necessary and more a case of they didn’t like the races mixing too much. It’s scary how much these attitudes prevailed in the U.K. really not that long ago. I guess this would have been in the 1970’s or 80’s.
Can we please, as a species, just stop being racist? It causes physical, mental and emotional pain and it doesn’t achieve anything positive for anyone. Other animals don’t discriminate on the basis of colour.
Maybe if some people still insist on it, put them on some remote uninhabited island in the middle of nowhere and just ignore them.

Sadly it's becoming "cool" for the social rejects (that's the racists) to be ignorant and totally misguided regarding social issues thanks to Nigel Farage. 😢
