In the early 1960s had a mate who was junior chef there. We went to meet him to go for a night out in Town and he took us into the kitchen to wait. He gave us a plate of various snacks , including frogs legs. Seeing these videos bring back so many memories, after 54 years in Africa.

As someone from Manchester I found this really interesting....the hotel has had a £14 Million refurbishment from the photos and renders I’ve seen it looks great.

That was really good! What a beautiful building. My mother took us for afternoon tea there, about 20 years ago - her parents had met and worked there around 1920.

I was interested to view this as I think my grandfather worked at the Midland as a waiter. His father may have worked there too, also as a waiter. I'd be interested to know if the Midlands has kept any historical records from its early days. This would all be prior to WW2. One family myth (?) is that he fell through a glass roof (an atrium ?) and nearly bled to death. If anyone has any suggestions for lines of inquiry please let me know.

Born and bred in Manchester, atbthe age of 69 I treated my sister to I think, a weekend at the Midland. I have never been more disappointed. The worst was the restaurant. Served by unintetested young girls, one sitting at the restaurant enterance drinking coffee!! Our shower screen had mould on it. Never again!

Love The Midland and particularly Te French Restaurant, but if a company is investing millions in refurbishment, then to my mind, they should reinstate the timeless Edwardian grandeur and elegance. Trying to make it a 21st century modern interior hotel will not work, have seen so many historical buildings ruined by tasteless 'clashing with the building' interiors...and in a few years they will need to spend another several million for the latest fad. Besides, hotels should be a place where a person can relax, too many stark, angular, polished surfaces in soulless colours, will do little to make a person feel cosseted in the heart space. Manchester has enough modern hotels for those that like soulless spaces. Please make The Midland grand again!
