I've been listening to Clapton for a good 35+ years, maybe close to 40. One thing that really strikes me is the guy's unmatched guitar virtuoso abilities have always somewhat overshadowed the fact that he has an absolutely tremendous voice as well, and one that has remained undiminished over all the years.
I thought I would never say this, Clapton has always been #1 for me, but I just heard Prince play "My guitar weeps", and I must say...that man can play a guitar! I never knew.
+Mick Addison (Mickyboy) Absolutely Happy Birthday. Among other times I've seen Clapton, I was lucky enough to go to the GuitarFest in Chicago in both 2007 and 2010. Two of the best shows I've ever seen (the best was Fleetwood Mac at the Forum in LA in 1991, too good to describe).
One of the greatest guitar solo's ever....short, to the point, intense, perfectly phrased, perfect tone....puts an army of Metal/Shred/Meat-heads to shame!
tiegooo I shouldn't be so mean....I like a good shredding session (do it myself sometimes...), but I do believe it takes "more" to compose/execute a shorter solo like this....a good example of a supreme short/shred solo would be Mathias Jabs (Scorpions) on "Rock You Like a Hurricane"...
+james parker Yer right, similar, great vibe...I get a good "facsimile" Gilmour tone on my little cube amp: "rectifier" amp setting, "gain" all the way, "tone" about 7 oclock, a little slap echo + some flange, and away i go! Btw, did you know Gilmour played lead on McCartney's "No More "lonely Nights"? It adds some nice metal "crunch" to one of Macca's "silly love songs", lol!
The little solo in this song inspired my love of guitar years ago. Amazing tone, and incredible musicality! I wish there were more musicians that listened to Clapton these days.
Yes, clearly Clapton's best video. It's from the WB/Polygram compilation "The Cream of Eric Clapton". What a lineup! Veteran Marcy Levy on vocals, the gifted Tim Renwick on guitar, Porcaro on drums, and the best rock bass player ever, Donald Dunn, from Booker T and the MGs. It doesn't get any better than this.
One of my favourite Clapton songs! Features Jeff porcaro on drums and Steve lukather on rhythm guitar! Nathan east on bass lenny castro on percussion! Ted templeman on timbales! Marcy Levy on backing vocals! Cool tune!
I remember seeing Eric in concert supporting the release of behind the sun album it was on Seattle in mid to late 1980s and I and my best friend were young 20 somethings. Everytime I hear this music i begin to cry from the loss of my friend who lost his battle with leukemia in 2016. It will be 40 years ago I met him labor day weekend 1979 and later became a lead guitar player with our band. God how i miss him and all that he taught me as a big brother in spirit. I pray for God's love and mercy to watch over us all and remember our lives. Goodbye my friend now you can rest in peace. I miss you Curt, your little brother with love Kevin.
Man i'm relating so hard to this song and it's meaning at the moment. I wish I had the capacity to express all this feelings I've built up over the pass couple of days in a manner such as this. Eric is a genius
You all are going to think this is weird but this is not only my favorite Clapton song, but one of my all time favorite songs. The riff is so simple, but Clapton was/is a master of making the difficult seem simple.
How many times must I tell you baby How many bridges I've got to cross How many times must I swear to myself Before I can talk to the boss Before I can talk to the boss How many times must I say I love you Before you finally understand Won't you be my forever woman I'll try to be your forever man Try to be your forever man How many times must I say I love you Before you finally understand Won't you be my forever woman I'll try to be your forever man Try to be your forever man Forever man, forever man, forever man Forever man, forever man, forever man I'll try to be your forever man Forever man, forever man, forever man Forever man, forever man, forever man Forever man, forever man, forever man I'll try to be your forever man 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
This is one of my all-time favorite songs ever!! Heard it in the car the other night, started speeding and rockin' out bigtime, could not even deal with it, it's such a great tune!!!!
I sure did love doing that video!!!! Even though it was freezing in the studio and the very expensive camera crashed at the end......One of my favorite songs we did on the album as well....
I always wondered about that camera dropping off the mount @2:42. The one guy is freaking out, backing away slowly with his hands on his head, another looks like he’s going to just make a run for it while the rest look on in horror. Someone must have received a stern talking to. From an L.A Times article the following year (Oct. 1986) regarding Panavision camera rental rates and value: “Through dealers or on its own, Panavision rents out equipment for between $3,500 and $25,000 a week. A middle-of-the-road system that costs about $7,000 a week is worth more than $1 million, Farrand said.” www.google.com/amp/s/www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1986-10-14-fi-3313-story.html%3f_amp=true
Actually this record was produced by Phil Collins, only two songs were produced by Ted Templeman und Lenny Waronker, one of them is "Forever Man" - with Jeff, Lenny C. and Luke. When the record came out, I read in an article, Eric Clapton didn't like the fat Collins-drum-sound for this song. Right he is, although I like Phil ... but here I prefer Jeff. ;)
One of the most succesful songs ever written by one the finest guitar players/ songwriters the world has ever known. Jerry Lynn Williams of Fort Worth, Texas. The searing tone of Clapton's guitar is but a remnant of the way Jerry played it.
As some modern Cockneys, using their rhyming slang, would say, Slowhand is "the dog's Jackson Pollacks on the guitar." Over the years he has made lots of bread (and honey), but EC has had many a problem his the trouble and strifes. And losing his son was a bitter, body blow. Through his pain we have gained great music.
My favorite Clapton tone and solo post D&Ds....He KILLED it..no prisoners...layed waste!!!.... He tuned down to D to play the open E pentatonic phrasing...that and yes, he used a Marshall too...some of his best work right here..no doubt
The late great Jeff Porcaro on drums, the late Donald "Duck" Dunn on bass and Steve Lukather on guitars..... As I understand it, he did this song with the TOTO boys (etch) when switching record labels. Something like that....
I played this several times today. Would be great to hear a certain guy say over and over ...how he feels....if he'd talk to me. Maybe I should give up. Wishing. I get tired...so tired. But...I never tire of Eric. NEVER tire of this...this fantastic sound...the voice...the guitar...the band. Music always helps me.
this one and BAD LOVE show his genius, but to witness his true prowess you must see him live,he is extra ordinary on that strat, born to the neck of a guitar, damn I'm jealous he doesn't even try hard,it is,must be, instinct
+strattuner Yes, Lead guitar is largely instinct....there is the physical aspect (the guitar, amp, etc.), there is also the musical knowledge/training, but what makes the great lead guitarist great (I sound like the Lion in "Wizard of OZ", lol!), is that instinctive, intuitive "instinct" (what else can you call it?), that melds the first two, into lead-work that just makes a song come alive in a way it wouldn't, otherwise....besides Clapton, some of my personal fave, "instinctive" lead players (in no particular order): D. Gilmour, Buck Dharma (B.O.C.), Albert King, George Harrison, Tonino Balliardo (Gipsy Kings), Neal Schon, Berton Averre, Kirk Hammett, Mathias Jabs, Lindsay Buckingham, Brian May, Tom Scholz, Joe Satriani...ok, now, on the count of three, everybody log in, and call me a shit-head for not including Richards, Page, Hendrix, Vai, etc...1-2-3, GO!!
+strattuner Whoa, I forgot "Luke" (Steve Lukather) and Joe Walsh ;their solos on Henleys' "Dirty Laundry" are two of the most awesome solos ever performed by man; two dirty-toned, dirty-phrased, beautifully UGLY solos that fit (to a "T") the nasty, dirty subject of the song....Oh, and also, Don Felder; besides the "Hotel..." work, the solo for "One of These Nights" is totally epic...
+strattuner Whoa, again!! Mark Knopfler: His dobro work that ends "Romeo and Juliet" is (again, for me) the purest example of lead guitar"instinct" that these ears have ever heard...a perfect example of a song where the subject matter, + the lyrics, "give birth" to a musical language of soul-connection, that cannot be put into words; it can be felt, but not so much understood; and THAT, boys and girls, is what you strive for, as a lead guitarist...(I better stop now, I'll be going on, all night...)
Songs that are shared by CZcams are an individual born in 1950 era, a blessing and are far better than the old school record player's that pumped out music from 78, 33 & 1/3, & 45 platters.
While I wouldn't call this a "classic," it's still a great pop song, and it does showcase Clapton's guitar AND vocal talents well. Consider this an appetizer to his more classic songs.
My introduction into the music business was winning this contract to play this song on stage live! If the crowd loved it I was in if they hated it I was out! Well, I won the attention of the population for over a year with this one song! I am in, for life!
I could listen to this man forever...

Happy Birthday Eric. 70 yrs old today. A living legend, your music will live on forever man.
When one of the greatest guitarists and bass players jams with a legendary drummer...
Love Donald in this along with so many with eric.

Quite literally the only reason I ever picked up an electric guitar. Big up the Eric, love you always
That is nice 👍👏
One of the greatest guitar solo's ever....short, to the point, intense, perfectly phrased, perfect tone....puts an army of Metal/Shred/Meat-heads to shame!
james parker I do agree !
tiegooo I shouldn't be so mean....I like a good shredding session (do it myself sometimes...), but I do believe it takes "more" to compose/execute a shorter solo like this....a good example of a supreme short/shred solo would be Mathias Jabs (Scorpions) on "Rock You Like a Hurricane"...
+james parker Pink Floyd's What Do You Want From Me is also on similar lines.
+Subbree thanx, I don't think I've heard that, I'll check it out!
+james parker Yer right, similar, great vibe...I get a good "facsimile" Gilmour tone on my little cube amp: "rectifier" amp setting, "gain" all the way, "tone" about 7 oclock, a little slap echo + some flange, and away i go! I treasure this album....one of the best in E.C.'s career...introduced him to another generation...Awesome song! Great solo!!
The little solo in this song inspired my love of guitar years ago. Amazing tone, and incredible musicality! I wish there were more musicians that listened to Clapton these days.
Who is that stylish young man? He's been a guitar slinging legend now for 50 years! No one like him has come along since.
Clapton's best song and tone!
I was 26 when this came out. My favorite song by him from the '80's. It's got that damn hook in it that I just cannot resist, to this day.
Eric Clapton is the Forever Man.
One of my favourite Clapton songs! Features Jeff porcaro on drums and Steve lukather on rhythm guitar! Nathan east on bass lenny castro on percussion! Ted templeman on timbales! Marcy Levy on backing vocals! Cool tune!
He one of the best!!! Like to see Santana and Erick on stage!!!
The first break - one of the most emotionally intense ever.
This stands up any heavy metal song out there
I remember seeing Eric in concert supporting the release of behind the sun album it was on Seattle in mid to late 1980s and I and my best friend were young 20 somethings. Tight, hard driving, visually stunning performance .... EC at his BEST !
Eric Clapton Can Sing Love This Song ❤
Man i'm relating so hard to this song and it's meaning at the moment. I wish I had the capacity to express all this feelings I've built up over the pass couple of days in a manner such as this. Eric is a genius
clapton is the man...period.
Erics music hits harder than a train!
This is my favorite guitar solo ever, just so intense...
You all are going to think this is weird but this is not only my favorite Clapton song, but one of my all time favorite songs. The riff is so simple, but Clapton was/is a master of making the difficult seem simple.
KPEC3arrival no he was the master of making simple great
Deniz Oktay yeah!
Agreed!!!!
Clapton didn't write the riff or the music. The composer, Jerry Lynn Williams, did.
Jeff Porcaro on drums, what a groove! #rip
unique and epic!
IMHO, one of the most dynamic and exciting songs of the '80s. This and "I Can't Stand It" are my fave Clapton tunes. Thanks so much for posting!!
This is fantastic! ! Clapton forever man!!
LOVE Clapton!!!
He makes playing guitar look as easy as breathing...amazing.
Wow i love his riffs so though Forever😍❤🔥
Awesome Clapton. I wish I had stock in blowdryers in the 80's.
Pure gold!
My favorite Clapton song. AWESOME
It must be over 30 years since I've seen this video but I've never forgotten that shot of the camera dropping off the crane.

Legendary Musician & Music! Jonny Weiss “Back to Phoenix.” 🎶
One of my all time favorites!!🎶💜🎸💜🎶
He makes playing guitar look as easy as breathing...amazing.
Are you still listening Elaine?
This is how a rock song should be sung, & how a rock guitar should be played. Perfection!
He could have put the hurt on me any day....wait! He still could ! I adore him ;)
Forever guitar God. Music is the universal language of mankind.
Bet you still listening after 4years and you believe music connects.
Glad I found this song. It is one of my favorites by Clapton. I wish it was twice as long with more guitar solo in it.
The only guy who can make playing guitar in a duster cool.
You know who else could rock a duster? Stevie Ray Vaughn. Another guitar legend.
There have only been a few AMAZING guitarists in history as far as i am concerned.
Clapton is definitly one of them.
I Love Eric's music
He's amazing.
Bet you still listening after 5years? hope I recieve a comment back.

Jeff Porcaro on drums and Lenny Castro on percussions - groove masters
+funklover24 Steve lukather on the rhythm guitar as well, even though he's not on the video!!!
+funklover24 Wow, I didn't know, the Toto gang were in on this! Awesome!

Nathan East on bass, and he isn't on the video, either.
Among, if not the best, groove of any Clapton song.
Clapton ❤
One of the best session groove drummers from back then...Mr. Jeff Pocaro...any questions?
Porcaro played the recording but the drummer in the video is Jamie Oldaker.
Forever Man Is A Great Song And Fantastic Wonderful Masterpiece By Eric Clapton.
Love that 1980's Eric Clapton period.
How many times must I say I love you
Eric Clapton - The God
Clapton is such a legend. Everyone knows that. The more you watch him play, the more you appreciate his greatness over the years. Unmatched.
ERIC CLAPTON THE MAN FOREVER !!🎸

Great set, terrific instrumentation, and a super-dynamic presentation by the incomparable Eric Clapton. THANK YOU SIR !

its not possible to remain still while listening to this magical song!
Great song by the only one - Eric Clapton.
Uh!!! So fantastic on so many levels...... top of his game right here.
Music is the universal language of mankind.
How are you, Karen?
The late great Jeff Porcaro on drums, the late Donald "Duck" Dunn on bass and Steve Lukather on guitars..... As I understand it, he did this song with the TOTO boys (etch) when switching record labels. Something like that....
So unbelievably epic on every level.

Just perfect ..from Greece love
Always the video I show people that are interested in how music videos are made.
*You are all wrong. Eric Clapton's favourite musician was JJ Cale. He said, "He's my hero."*
everything about this song is so badass
We love you here, in indiana/Ohio.. I love your sweet songs for women/about women... You are lovely...
