“If your nervous system believes that you get a game over at the end of this game, you relax a lot more.” [1:09:01

That's not saying much. A person who has no nutritional education will just 'listen to their bodies' and eat a big mac every time they feel hungry. That's obviously a gross exaggeration but it's still very applicable. If an individual doesn't know how to cook healthy, they will keep eating the wrong food, follow an incorrect regiment of fasting and deluding themselves into thinking they're doing it right and the suffering is part of the game. There is A LOT of anecdotal garbage out there.

I live in a poor neighborhood where the best of foods and information is not there, but I noticed the people who live through their ailments and diseases are those who are in the fresh air walking most of the day! Something about the fresh air the sunlight and walking that seems to keep you alive! They don’t have a plate of organic vegetables or meat all they have is the ability to get out and walk and they live to tell about it! My brother was told he had a tumor on his lung 5 years ago and he’s still walking! And he’s probably still alive because he never let the drs start experimenting on him!

I told my doctor that I wanted to do a 5 day water fast after I did one and he told me that that was, and I quote, 'A very silly thing to do and I would highly recomend against it'. he continued to make some really good points and then seamed a little miffed when I told him I had already done it. I am at a point where I dont know whats up and whats down. I do have a a degrea of trust for Dr. Ekburg as his videos are always full of information and he takes you through the steps. Nice episode Tom....here are my thoughts:
Fasting - I agree with Dave that fasting doesn't need to be rigorous. I have written about it several times and I follow it. A lot of times I would do 16 hours overnight and then go for my training. Other times I feel hungry and I would have pre-work out meal in the form of a fruit, potato, oats, etc. whatever I feel like or what is available in kitchen. I am always on a mixed diet. Some days are heavy on protein, some heavy on carbs, and some heavy on fat. I have never felt an iota of difference any day in my training.
I also vouch for the fact that one should watch their pre & post meals with fasting. Just fasting alone does nothing. In India, we will see several examples of men and women (more) who regularly fast say twice a week, or say 9 days at a stretch; and ironically most die unhealthy or young. At least, the people I know off or see around.
Sleep - Even though I do everything right naturally as experts explain and I would say that's way we have learnt to sleep in the family. Everybody does this in my family and surroundings. Early to bed, rise early, do regular exercises/walk first thing in the morning and then start their day. Always slept in dark etc. etc.
However, to me sleep is more related to tiredness of body and mind rather than all the factors expert talk about. If you wake up at 5 am then you are bound to sleep at 9.30/10pm. This is how it works in 100% of people I know. And those who wake up late can never find their night sleep and since they can't sleep, they will find some sort of entertainment - be it phone or tv.
Example - You wake up at 5am. Nobody listens to news at that hour because nothing changed from previous night. Right? You won't open your phone - even if you open to check it, you will close it. Nobody is there to communicate with you at that hour. You wouldn't like watching anything - not a movie or a show at that hour. So what are you left with? You would either go for a walk, or start your exercises and that's then becomes a ritual for you. And when that becomes a ritual, it is up to mind now totally to make you sleep early. First day, or rather first few days, you will feel tired because its been a long day already. You should find sleep easy. BUT...I wish if mind was this easy to handle! Your mind would stop you and reminds you - its only 9.30. How can you sleep that early? Your bedtime is 11pm. This is where 'no glasses', 'blue light', or any other science remedy would work because you are driven by your mind.
Whereas, if you think of lives of all the successful, healthy, and wise people; you will find, they go to bed early barring an exception or two. And then may be you will be able to convince your mind that sleeping early is no sin. Mind has to be told that its been a long day and it needs to rest. How you convince it is on the individual because a few people would get convinced with a narrative whereas, others wont! Find a way.

People need more Omega-3s and omega-9s . Seed oils rich in omega 6 make inferior lipid cell walls. I eat pure coconut oil, olive oil and grass fed butter flax seed oil for omega 6 but need to be chewed or be cold pressed and protected from oxidation. Keep your oils in the fridge
      Check out Dr Eric Berg
      Dr Peter Osborne
Dr Robert Lustig ( professor UC)
      I hope this helps.

From my studies, I'm guessing he would answer - Oils made from seeds, (beans, legumes, grains) are typically the worst in terms of high omega 6, already oxidized (manufacturers even add deodorants because these oils start to go bad immediately), so corn, soy, peanut, sunflower, safflower, ''Vegetable,'' oils are bad. Ditto oils like canola (rapeseed) that require strong chemicals to process, even though touted as being high in omega 3's. obviously, anything called “trans fat.“ As for the milks, oat milk and almond milk have carbs, Just like milk has carbs. It doesn’t take many carbs to throw off a fast. coconut oil or more refined MCT oil and butter are the classic oils to add to coffee. Saturated fats are more stable. Omega 3 fats that are still in the food they came from are more likely to be fresh, like fish oil still in the fish. Salmon, mackerel, sardines. Of course, all of these oils do you have a mix of the different types of oil, so we pay attention to the ratio of 3 to 6 to 9 etc.

Level two is fasting two days a week and you at least want a two days window between the fasting days. One important thing for ladies you can’t fast when you’re on your period because you need water and all the nutrients you get from food. They also have and mention the person they admire as the "God Father" of fasting; Dave mentioned Dr. Longo and there are other. I was introduced to fasting many years ago; I am curious, no one mentions my god father of fasting, the man who went on a walkabout while on a water fast with Gandhi. White Vein Maeng Da Kratom could be an answer a lot of people are looking for to assist with fasting. It's a pain reducer, but what got me into it was the extra mood and energy. I went from like a 7 to a 9 all day long, and before long I was going the whole day without eating while working a very physical job (and I got up at 4AM in the mornings religiously to go to the gym for an hour to work out very intensely before work). Each time * went 21 days and each time I had loads of energy and no trouble staying with it once I'd made it past day 5. There 8s no danger of losing electrolytes with the Master Cleanse. It consists of organic lemon juice, organic raw maple syrup and cayenne pepper. I highly recommend drinking loads of water and taking in a small amount of Celtic raw salt each day, as well. Mild to moderate daily exercise and a full days work are effortless and pleasant, but don't try to run any races. If you have a massive Herxheimer response, do what I do: keep a small stash of Halloween sized mini chocolate bars handy. Eat one and it will immediately stop the reaction. Just one, lol. Also, the OMAD style he is suggesting (one meal at night) has shown to increase cholesterol levels; so not probably advisable for most people. I think his idea eating crap food on IF is a total recipe for metabolic disaster. Short term IF like 18/6 has shown to have few to no benefits vs unrestricted eating, other than maybe the potential caloric restriction benefits. But if you're eating "as much as you want" as he is suggesting during that 6 hours, then you are likely to experience no benefits as according to current clinical data.

Trying to squash cholesterol levels is fighting the wrong battle. Cholesterol is how we make hormones and repair cell walls so we WANT it. Elevation in levels, logically, is your body simply preparing to repair things. Add to that the fact that the acceptable level of cholesterol was changed (lowered) to justify putting more people on statin drugs. SMH. Statin drugs do not prevent heart attacks or increase positive outcomes. In fact, Lower cholesterol levels are associated with higher all cause mortality.
