@Q G.i used to wear the dark sunglasses and pretend I was Jim Jones,I would mimic the lines from the movie with Powers boothe.i think it was by far the best one ever done of Jim up till now.i even read seductive poison from a survivors standpoint. Now I was only pretending when I thought I was him,it was only that I was caught up by some of the ideals of those times.Mainly in 2001 I was overtaken by the madness. But don't get me wrong,Jim Jones was obviously an evil man and not worth celebrating.Sometimes things of the past hardly seem real, like they never happened. So that's where the pretending begins.listening to this recording,he was a foul mouthed bad spirited insane idiot.Truly disturbing
I was 10 when this tragedy took place. My parents were glued to the TV for weeks. My parents knew of Jones, and some members of our church fellowshiped with the People's Temple in L.A. My mother knew of someone who died in Jonestown. My parents never explained to me what really happened there. They acted as though they were hiding something from me (maybe because of my age). For all I knew, It was a church group that dranked poisoned punch and died in the middle of the jungle.... thats all I knew ! It just didnt make sense to me! Therefore I was always intrigued by it! When I was 12, I decided to do a book report on People's Temple and Jonestown. I read the book "Six Years With God" by Jeanne Mills. It scared the living daylights out of me!!!! It was shocking, brutal, and the most scariest thing I have ever read in my life! I would put myself in the place of the kids, and wonder what I would have done if I were there. Would I hide underneath a cottage? or slip past the guards and hide in the jungle? .Would I pretend to drink the poison, spit it out, and play dead?....etc The scariest question of all was....What if my parents decided for my family to join the People's Temple? So I understand what you mean! I was deeply affected by it , and had nightmares for many many years after that!!!
Listen to how different his cadence and speech pattern is from his earlier amphetamine-fueled tirades. He’s now consuming lethal amounts of pentobarbital on a daily basis along with attack-level doses of four other powerful pharmaceuticals. He’s floating around Jonestown at this point.
and in the "death tape", he's definitely slurring the absolute FUCK out of his words....he doesn't even finish sentences or thoughts during some of the tape.
@@Nintendoman851Probably it's also the audio from the microphone being close to his mouth so there's a lot of plosives and the audio gets distorted (I'm just guessing, could also be the tape quality being bad.).

Most agreed, they were lost, delusional, evil people. I feel sympathy for the children, those with low IQs, those raised in the “church” from childhood, and for handful who woke up and either left or attempted to save lives. Sad truth is most of these folks went right along with it or were too cowardly to fight back or stage a coup in Jonestown. Any man or woman who gives their spouse, children, and lives to another man isn’t worth a damn.
Fear. They have no way out. Hundreds of miles from civilization. Sure a lot of them were completely bought into his BS, but many were scared out of their minds.
He was able to convince a thousand people to follow him into a jungle hundreds of miles from civilization. You have to have some charisma to be able to do that.
One step at a time. For many years he was very committed to the wellbeing of his followers….I mean he always victimized them to some degree but at least he attempted to keep it unseen.
They knew he wasn't a preacher..most had him figured out by the time he started the worst of it all, BUT..Most were there for each other in the end, not him..He was their capture and they knew it..They knew Jim was crazy.
I still can't understand how no one realized that he was insane and how he was able to lead these 900+ people into death, into living in Guyana for so long and the way he cusses is just an indication that he was not as innocent as a man so devoted to god and religion. He just wanted to take a vacation in the jungle full of drugs and sex until he got scared when his goon squad killed the people at the airstrip.
They were sleep deprived, hungry, dehydrated, and overworked. Not to mention many of them were POC and conditions during that time in the US for POC weren’t great so they thought returning would hurt them. Jones was constantly telling them mercenaries were coming to attack and kill them and torture their children. He had his own men walking around the premises with guns and he’d taken everyone’s passports and even medication. Now imagine being in that scenario. Maybe you’d feel like death wouldn’t be so bad either. Keep in mind many of them were shot and forcefully given the poison.
