      The thing that's confusing for me (I'm filling this out for my little daughter born abroad) is that the form is FOR my child, yet it doesn't ask anything about her. All the information is about me. Is that correct? Where do we record her information - at the in-person interview? It doesn't make a lot of sense.

    Timelines are now 8-11 weeks for route; 5-7 weeks for Expedited. This does not include the time it takes for the Passport application to be sent to the State Department from the Acceptance facility. Furthermore, it might take up to two weeks for a passport to be shipped to your location once it has been printed. These are the current timelines if you have applied after 10/2/2023. Before 10/2/2023 refer to my other comment on timelines being 10-13 weeks for Routine; 7-9 for Expedited.
    If you need to get it within 2 weeks you can call the state department at around 14 days before travel and call for an urgent appointment. You can also call at 13 before travel too. This should get you an urgent appointment but you must provide proof of travel and since is the minor video both parents need to be there unless one can provide you with a notarized DS-3053. You can also do Life of Death if you have an immediate family member or spouse that has died or is really sick. Life or Death appointments require proof of life or death as well as proof of travel.
    Hope this helps.

      On a passport for a child under 16, a parent should print the child's full name on the signature line. The parent should also sign their name next to the printed name of their child, and note their relation to their child (example: mother, father, or guardian).
      This is what the State Department says about this particular topic. No you do not need to go over the top by using impressions as those are not accepted.

      Submit a Statement of Consent: Form DS-3053 or a notarized statement from both parents or guardians giving that person (example: grandparent) permission to apply for the child.
      Include a photocopy of the photo IDs for both parents or guardians.
      If the statement is from only one parent or guardian, you must also show proof that that parent or guardian has sole custody of the child.
      This is what the state department says if both parents cannot make it.

We have an international travel coming up in next 30 days and clearly there's no time to apply N-600 fo her. We'd go ahead and apply an US passport for her. My questions is - When we return to the US, could we apply N-600 for her so that she has the certificate of citizenship with her for rest of her life OR in other words - Can we apply her N-600 even though she posseses the US passport?

Only Passport books can be shipped via 1-2 day shipping as cards are sent via First class envelope. also for minors that became citizens under the child citizenship act of 2000 you can get your passport without getting the citizenship certificate.

      Citizenship certificates do have their advantages but mainly if you want to join the military and/or get a security clearance.

      Number 9 would be for your child if they were known by a different name.

    Hi, i have a question. My son has a passport and it close to expire. He just turn 17. Do he need to apply in person or can he renew by mail?

      He would have to apply in person as child passports cannot be renewed by mail.

    Hello, and thank you for the video
    I'd like to ask on line 21 in form ds11. Do i put yes and lost passport, and i will be ok its for my minors application

      @michaelhorgan9525 Před 3 měsíci

      If you lose a passport you will need to indicate yes and fill out a ds-64. Only indicate this if you have lost or stolen passport. If you do not have a proof of citizenship documents you can pay an extra $150 for a file search if you fill out a file search form.

    I have a question. The application says fill out childs last name at parents time of birth....so should we put my wife's maiden name

    • @michaelhorgan9525
      @michaelhorgan9525 Před 3 měsíci

      You would normally use what is on the birth certificate but you can use a more current name if you have proof of name change via court order or amended birth cert. Make sure you write down any previous names and the parental information you would also copy what is on the birth certificate.

      I believe the state department is a little lenient on that. Just try to put in as much as you know or find your birth certificate or something like that.

    What if one parent lives outside the country? What does one do in that situation

    • @michaelhorgan9525
      @michaelhorgan9525 Před rokem

      One option is for the other parent to fill out a DS-3053 form and have it notarized at the embassy. The parent will need to mail it to to the other parent by mail once it is filled out. Then you can provide it with the application. This of course assumes the child was born here.
      If the parent living in the US has sole custody of that child then you do not have to provide proof of consent. There is also the DS-5525 if you cannot locate the other parent (deadbeat who does not want to have contact or incarcerated). Otherwise the DS-3053 notarized at embassy or consulate will work. Additional documentation will be needed if not born in the US and will derive citizenship from the US citizen parent.

    Hey maneesha I am a us citizen and I changed my name while I got my citizenship now i am applying for my 2 year old child and it’s saying I should put parents name at birth so what do I put my new name or old name ??

    • @michaelhorgan9525
      @michaelhorgan9525 Před rokem

      Ideally it would be the name on the birth certificate (if born in the US). I accidentally put my moms married name instead of maiden name and I still have my Passport. :)

      He can have a DS-3053 form notarized by the US embassy/consulate in France. He will need to mail the form to you along with a photocopy of his ID.

    • @michaelhorgan9525
      @michaelhorgan9525 Před rokem

      You can use a DS-3053 and have it notarized at the embassy or consulate and he can mail it back to you. You would then provide that document with the paperwork as that document provides his consent to get a passport.
