  • The Yamaha DGX670 has a feature called Accompaniment Fingering that allows you to play chords with one finger in your left hand. This is a great way to get started with playing the piano, as it allows you to play along with songs without having to learn a lot of chords.
To use Accompaniment Fingering, simply press the [ACMP] button. This will turn on the Accompaniment mode and allow you to play chords with one finger in your left hand.
There are four different Accompaniment Fingering types:
Single Finger: This is the default setting and allows you to play chords with one finger in your left hand.
Multi Finger: This setting allows you to play chords with two or three fingers in your left hand.
AI Full Keyboard: This setting uses Yamaha's AI technology to play chords with your left hand.
AI Bass Guitar: This setting also uses Yamaha's AI technology to play bass lines with your left hand.
To change the Accompaniment Fingering type, press the [MENU] button, then go to Split Point/Chord Fingering, and select the desired type.
You can also adjust the sensitivity of the Accompaniment Fingering feature by going to Menu Chord Fingering and selecting the Sensitivity setting. This will change how hard you need to press the keys to activate the chords.
Here is a table of the different Accompaniment Fingering types and the chords that they correspond to:
    Accompaniment Fingering Type Chords
Single Finger Major, Minor, Seventh, Minor Seventh
Multi Finger Major, Minor, Seventh, Minor Seventh, Slash Chords
    AI Full Keyboard Any chord
    AI Bass Guitar Bass lines

Such a brilliant question my friend! I have a video coming out today on this same topic on how to add equalization and effects. Please stay tuned 🙏👀😀

Is there a way to see the chord in full keyboard mode while the style is not running?

Thanks for the question. Do you mean see some sort of textual or visual notation about which chord one is playing?

@@phillc Nope, as I can see in your video the active chord in play (C major, A minor etc) shwos on the screen only if the style is running (and acc is turned on), is there a way it can show without having the style running (for learning purposes)?

Phil, thank you for this very informative video on the many different ways to play chords on the DGX670.
Phil, when you were attempting to play a Smart Chord and it was not sounding right that was because you were playing triads. With this Fingering Type you select Smart Chord from the Menu and enter the Key of the music you are playing which allows you for example to play a C Major by just pressing a single C key in the Chord Area which you have defined with your Split Point.
This feature provides new keyboard players like myself who do not possess your advanced chording skills to be able to control the Style with just a single finger while concentrating on improving our right hand melodies.
If anyone requires further information on the various Chord Fingering Types you can refer to page fifty-six of the DGX-670 Owner's Manual.

@@robertsaunders7179 Thanks. I'll look into it. The DGX-670's OS is extremely convoluted. It's the most complicated synth I've ever owned, and I haven't been able to do much with it other than waste a lot of time. I have used it successfully as a controller for Pianoteq Pro, but just as a virtual grand paino, which does sound very nice.

@@robertsaunders7179 I looked at the user manual. Many different types. After you choose one, how do you get it to stick so that the instrtument always stays in the mode you have chosen.
