The whole theme with the mystery of the Drowned God, the oily black mysterious Seastone chair, the quote 'What is dead may never die', and many other aspects are sooo suggestive of the Lovecraftian Cthulhu mythos.
I think GRRM confirmed he drew a lot of inspiration and names from Lovecraft
One of the most common Ironborn names is freaking Dagon.
Im more surprised that they have a larger population than Dorne.
Me too, man
Well in dorne.. men keep fucking men and women keep fucking the women.
I dont know where he got that from but that's false
Dorne is mainly a desert. So no wonder they dont have many people.
Dorne has a larger army though
The rest of Westeros: does something
Iron Islands, The North, and Dorne: DID I ASK YOU A DAMN THING
House Blacktyde of Blacktyde is a noble house from Blacktyde Castle on the island of Blacktyde. Do you guys think GRRM likes the name Blacktyde?
Omg....owesome
Just like the song Black Sabbath by the band Black Sabbath in the album Black Sabbath
Not a unique thing in the story. Once I read a harlaw, son of harlaw, of harlaw castle in harlaw island.
I think sometime he just doesn't want to create more names
House Vaith of the Vaith is a noble house from the castle of Vaith on the river of Vaith. There are loads of things like that.
I'm amazed how you could upload 1 or 2 videos a week. Videos you upload look very artistic and easy to understand. It surely the best channel for the GOT lovers.
Not as good as Preston Jacobs or Alt Shift X, but still a great channel nonetheless.
We dont need down talk here lmao
Bridge4 is also nice.
Ali Raza one of the best
The Ironborn: We're not good at farming and naming things
House Blacktyde of Blacktyde and House Saltcliff of Saltcliff:
4:46
The castle was not destroyed the day the last stone was lain, the Dragon Lord landed on the continent that day.
What is dead may never die!
This region sounds like a combo of Faroe island Vikings + Ireland, being west of Britain.
@@cillian5304 when has that stopped anything?
And a touch of chutulu mythos👻
Don’t forget the western isles of Scotland
I like the skyrim back music
what's the name?
I knew I heard the music from somewhere
Unbroken Road. It goes really well with these map videos 👌
@@laurence2013 Thanks
@@vek3681 elder scrolls lore is also really cool and I think it may even be better than the lore of GOT. You should check it out
Dude your videos are addicting and love the mapping of this world.
You are by far my favorite ASOIAF/GOT youtuber. Extremely informational, no like and subscribe bombardment, great calm voice, and perfect picture selection.
Loving this man keep it up!! 💞💞💞💞
Omg I just found your channel and I'm so in love with your videos. Thank you so much for doing such great research and for taking time to make such a hard video! They are all amazing and make me love GOT even more (and even believe the lands are real haha) keep it up
Thank you :)
ASOIAF is the true story. GOT was garbage for the most part.
i enjoyed this so much! great work keep it up!
‘For those who care’ such humility! I love your videos
That was great. Thanks for making this!
Yes! Just what I was asking for, love this channel :)
5 9 h
These videos are truly amazing for GoT fans and I love all the detail put into them! They look super professional!!! Have you ever thought of doing videos like this for other fictional worlds? (Dark Tower would be amazing if you have read it! Otherwise I feel as though you would love it!!!)
ASOIAF fans* they are mostly irrelevant to GOT fans.
I LOVE YOUR VIDS KEEP IT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wanted this so bad! THANKS! :D
i love your videos man
Yay a video! 👊🏻
Thanks for enlightening me on my favorite show.
Not much of this pertains to the shit show, but rather a great put together and ordered reference of lore from the real story.
5:45, thats not true.
King Aegon landed in Westeros the day Harrenhal was completed
Your enthusiasm for this topic is contagious. 😉 Thank you for another great video.
I love this series you should do the Riverlands next
I was just watching shit about theon. Perfect timing.
I think you mean "algoritm"
Great job!
Thanks for posting 🗣
love your vids
Last time I was this early the Iron Islands was still sailing to Lannisport
Last time i was this early the Grey King was still Alive
Last time I was this early Aegon had just landed.
The island once had trees but greed took it away from them... sounds like Iceland before the vikings came there. Used to be covered in at least 50% birch trees. Today every tree in Iceland is planted
Great video.
Now all there’s left are the Vale and the Free Citys of essos.
Awesome. I can't wait to see the last kingdoms.
Thanks you for this vid because I thought that the Iron Islands were only 3 and were ruled by 6 to 7 houses
You must be happy now that Arya has sailed west of Westeros ;)
Nice video btw
Keep it up love it😘👍
Harlaw, Greyjoy & Drumm are my Houses from the Iron Islands.
Im rewatching these but do you think the three islands that sunset sea explorer found are based off Newfoundland or the Caribbean? Since Westeros is suppose to be britain
There be ice dragons, there be Ctulhu, there be poison jungle, there be darkness.
Here be Game of Thrones.
One aspect of the Iron Islands and their culture that is not adequately addressed is where do they secure their resources (wood) for shipbuilding and maintenance after denuding their islands and no longer having the power to raid and hold lands long enough to harvest wood (not a quick or easily defended process) in the GoT timeline.
That's what I've always thought was a weakness in the place of the Iron Islands part of the Westeros world. They have a small, dispersed population on deforested islands, with nothing to trade but iron and unspecified other metals of no great value. They have had holdings on the mainland now and then, but since Balon Greyjoy's rebellion they've been penned within their islands. It's just not feasible that they'd have a fleet like the one shown in series 8; the logistics don't add up. They're not the Vikings, despite the obvious similarity. The Vikings made what would have been a long journey to get to European destinations... the Iron Islands are a stone's throw away from the mainland. The Iron Islanders wouldn't have been left free to engage in their plundering indefinitely. Mainland forces would have eventually lost patience and erased them from existence.... their population and their culture would have disappeared completely.
These vids are awesome.....tysm!!
*"We Do not Sow, for what is dead may never die but rises again HARDER STRONGER."
far west is kalimdor
Lol
believe to be home of the green skin according to a trader from westeros
Actually after 1 year of sailing you should find 3 volcanic islands
The seven kingdoms are truly huge
Harlaw actually has good soil and used to have forests
2:25 not quite, theres one house (house Goodbrother) that instead claims descent from the Grey King's elder brother
You have a great voice
A day to walk across each island? That means each is atleast half a dozen miles across, a fair chunk of land
The Valeee
Is no one else shocked that the “new world” is in fact at least somewhat known in a world of ice and fire?? Where every man can be kings and queens
A day to walk across each island!?! They are some big islands
Well if you walk at a standard pace of 5 kilometers per hour you can travel 120 kilometers in a day. Of course you can't walk nonstop for 24 hours so let's say it's 100 kilometers. Also it says across the island not across it's coast. A perfectly circular island with a diameter of 100 kilometers actually has a surface area of 7854 square kilometers which is quite large.
Not really... for medieval travel... no not really. These islands are sparsse and have terrible geography though. From Kings Landing to Winterfell is close to a year...
I wonder if u head west on the sunseat u will reach eastern eros and that other piece of land or maybe this would is bigger then it seems and u reach like the example of the "Americas" lol
I think GRRM has said that the planet Westeros and Essos are on is larger than Earth, so if the next land across the sunset sea is eastern Essos and Ulthos then there's an ocean probably twice or three times as big as the Pacific in the way.
Gylbert King!
Where is the pic in the thumbnail from? Is that the red kraken?
Nvm it’s Victarion
Whats the music?
Or as Theon would say: The Ion Ilands
Wai wai wait...House SPARR?! Do my ears deceive me?
looks like the Faeroe islands
Vale of Arryn!!!
Will you do detailing videos on the Sellsword companies
I would follow Gilbert
Colonisation boys
I went through your videos and didn't see the The Vale
I think west of westoroes is the new world
Like how the America’s were discovered
Maybe one day grrm will write a book about the far west continent.. Which has its own weird rituals and families!
@Madalin Grama maybe grrm is one of those people who claim the Earth is flat🤣
@@shineon808 the meisters of the citadel and martin himself state the world is round
Wow, Norway is so peaceful, isn't it?
Anybody ever thought these lands aren't just story lands??
How the hell do the iron born build more ships if they don’t have any trees?
Benn Conner who said they don't have any trees?
Bruhhh ._. Game of thrones lore
Trade
Benn Conner those Game of Thrones lore videos contradict themselves a lot. They probably don’t have many trees because of how little land they have, but I don’t see a reason why they couldn’t have trees other than some dumbasses cutting them all down.
Imagine ppl like “Euron Greyjoy” raiding your lands 🤦🏽♀️
No house codd?
Why this kingdom exists?
Arya goes to the west of Westeros
31 ISLANDS!!!!!!!
So the iron islands were once green? How sad.
That doesn't mean that much. Most of Sweden and the entire coastal region of Norway is green as well. However pine trees can grow in very poor soil, on very steep slopes and at very high elevation.
Shipbuilders with no wood lol. Makes sense.
they built their ships from iron.
Yes!! Vikings
Drowned Man: Let [name] your servant be born again from the sea, as you were. Bless him with salt, bless him with stone, bless him with steel. Listen to the waves, listen to the God. He is speaking to us, and he says we shall have no king but [name]. Let the sea wash your follies and your vanities away. Let the old [name] drown. Let his lungs fill with sea water, let the fish eat the scales off his eyes. What is dead may never die, but rises again, harder and stronger. What is dead may never die!Gathered: What is dead may never die![5]
Iron Islands no. 26 in the periodic table
Hoare-Chall Engineering. lol
We are ironborn we’re not subjects we’re not slaves we take what is ours we pay the iron price
do slavers bay
This can't be right, Dorne has to have a bigger population
What is dead may never die we do not sew
I always found it strange how the Ironborn are based on the vikings. Yet they come from a series of small islands while the Vikings came from a massive landmass.
marinus18 One thing that puzzles me is how the fuck they get wood for ships..
@@MrRikardoe Yeah. In addition how can there be so many Ironborn if the land is so harsh? Scandinavia is huge so even though it's population density was very low there were still enough vikings to make a big impact.
@@MrRikardoe they steal it by raiding villages along the coast of western westeros.
@@MrRikardoeexactly! Lol
Euron can have a 1000 ships in 2mins, with what wood and crew?
Is that........ Skyrim music?
"What's west of Westeros?"
I guess Arya Stark will discover the answer to that question.
Ur mom.
yara blindly following dany or anyone is so NOT an iron islander.
@Alexey Baal
you forgot the part where she still blindly followed herr daenerys targenhitler and did not proclaim iron islands independent when sansa did it for the north.
❤💜❤
Which realm has the smallest population?
Tyler Pape Dorne
Iron mans bay? More like Iron Man btw.
Naga (नाग) is a Sanskrit word for snake.
Iron island...Vikings..
So the ironborns are basically vikings
@Marko Milivojević Rust no they're birds🙄
@Marko Milivojević Rust ese you see, we do not sow, pls gib us de moni RIGHT NOW
Sucks that they have the coolest sigil lol
How come everyone on westeros speak the same language?
Convenience I’m guessing
Im the 666th viewer
the iron islands the warriors island wonder why the warrior son went their instead of to the North either that or he went there first
We do not sow
Imagine living in that Universe, where all the rulers are stupid and barbaric,... hobbiton looks far better now
"Imagine living in that Universe, where all the rulers are stupid and barbaric......"
Like we even need to fucking imagine that.
