The Arctis 5 headset we used is the original 2016 version, not the current 2019 revision. The newer revision adds extra ear cushioning, offers a couple EQ updates (and DTS Surround X 2.0, although the legacy Arctis 5 also received this via a software update), and has minor aesthetic changes. We welcome these updates, but they don't change our overall verdict on the headset. Apologies for the confusion!

yep, with gaming headsets you rarely get what you pay for. I am running a $25 amazon gaming headset, the Sades one with the wolf and it sounds vastly better than any in the video, and the drivers are nice and neutral. The build quality is pretty meh, would have been great 10 years ago, but i would take sound quality any day over the week over build, because i can break 4 of these for the price of any of the big brand ones here.
A 10-$20 lavalier mic will sound much better than the vast majority of headset mics.

@@anasevi9456 They must've messed up the sound somehow on all of them... On a side note, the Turtle Beach ones require a firmware update which may not have been done, therefore invalidating the results.

After i watched this, I also went back to the DankPods video "Do gaming headsets sound good?", and he was very happy with the HyperX cloud II.
Therefore I am not completely sure James gave them proper chance.
yeah plus I believe the alpha cloud are also around the same range (100-120) and they have some pretty cool headphone gear stuff happening in them
They're getting old now, and have a horrible mic- I know because I've owned them for 4 years, but otherwise they're really damn nice if you can find them for
Exactly what i was thinking. I cannot speak for the mic since i have a separate one, but the audio is fantastic, very balanced.
I have a Cloud Alpha and other than the leather coming off of the cushion ear (I just bought a new pair of cushions) the sound is great and your ears will love the lows and bass out of the Cloud series. Worth note that the quality of the plastics, cables and metal it's awesome too, I may dropped the headset a hundred times by now and not even one rattle noise inside and it fits like new.
@@derekma222 My only problem with my alphas is the knob on the cable that will lower the left ear's sound if fully in and the plastic rubbery part connecting the metal to the headset. oh and the mic's plastic is creasing but I've had them for 2 years now and my BF loves to twist the mic around

Facts
Word.
There's one thing you forgot to address: What really grinds my gears is when the audio you can hear in your headphones also bleeds through to your mic, or vice versa when your mic cuts cut off/ducked when there is audio coming in simultaneously. It would be good to know if any of these do that or not...
That's an internal wiring issue, there are two ways to solve that, the manufacturer has to wire a separate power and ground for the mic (most just share the ground with both of the drivers, which is where the interference comes from I can only really think of one headset the does that) or run a dedicated mic that doesn't touch the headphones circuit at all
Also bad separation inside your motherboard could cause it too, if it has a 4 pole connector
@@GuitarInformer the time I had it years ago, it had to be the first one if it wasn't a physical vibration thing. We were using a splitter for separate mic and headphone jacks.
@@CreativityNull the only way to fix it is a split cable with a fully isolated microphone, or an external

I've been running HyperX Cloud 2's for years now, on my 2nd pair of them and they're an amazing set for the price(about 150 AUD)

the mic is also removable if not needed
in the box they come with both fabric or synthetic leather(my only criticism of the set is these, they tend to fall apart after a year or so however replacement ones are pretty easy to get a hold of)

Just got the 2021 Arctis 5, love them
I had the HyperX Cloud II for a number of years. Surprised you consider them 'mediocre' considering they are basically a clone of the Beyer DT770. Always found them pretty excellent as a gaming headset and this is from someone who uses DT880 for music production duties.
Too true, I have a couple of expensive headphones for music production, but for gaming sessions where comfort is king and convenience is a huge factor, I would never recommend anything that ISN'T the Cloud IIs. Absolutely fantastic sound, the small USB DAC moves processing out of the chassis and away from EMI, nice detachable mic, and comfort for hours. I know it's an older product, but this video is super suspect for thinking any of these headsets are better than the Cloud IIs.
Also they've recommended them so many times during the years. I also used to own a cloud II until I moved on to better stuff (philips fidelio x2 + xlr mic), and they are quite good.
@Z E There is a virtual 7.1 switch on the dongle DAC but I always leave it off.
I was surprised at this as well! I specifically watched this video to see if they were mentioned. I have been using the HyperX Cloud II for years now too and friends often comment on the clear mic quality. The headphones also sound great for gaming but I will often switch to some open back SHP9500s to minimize fatigue or the Sennheiser HD 25-1 II for audio crispness. Still, the HyperX Cloud II beats any turtle beach headphones I've tried by a longshot.
@TEKNOHKN I don't recommend the virtual 7.1, but it's cool they include (for free mind you) a way of moving the sound processing out of the chassis. Sure, it's not better than a dedicated desktop DAC, but it's FREE my guy you don't HAVE to use it.
I would love to see one for the high-end models as well.

I own them and can compare them to other widely regarded non-gaming headphones that I also own. They are comfortable, have solid audio quality, and the microphone is clear. Maybe they aren't the very best headphones out of the group, but they are certianly better than meh when judged by the same criteria.
@@ossharkuenmeursault5609 beats didn't have very good competitors in their market niche, i.e. style, whereas gaming headsets have significant competition. Unlike the beats, people could go buy something better at the same price, so there is no reason why people would by the Cloud II for so long if there were a lot of better options at the same price.
Pro tip don't buy a gaming headset just get some audiophile headset for the same price and a modmic for like 20 bucks
The current modmic costs 50 bucks at its cheapest. Good luck getting audiophile headphones for 50$. At below 100$ you are better off buying a decent headset.
@@ironcrown2383 Are you dumb? You can find modmics for 20 bucks what are you on about?
@@pierce9019 look at their website. 50$ for uni. The cheapest seller i could find it 60€ online
Nothing makes me more happy than hearing James say "Fresh books"
As someone who gets weirded out by being blocked out from the sound of the room around them, I always leave on ear uncovered or without an earbud, I love the idea of an open backed gaming headset like the first one
Get an open back headphone and buy a seperate mic
Really surprised to see the X-clouds as "mediocre". I have had the Xcloud alphas for a few years now and absolutely love them
Yeah I'm quite surprised there too. I haven't met anyone who didn't like their X-Clouds, and they're so popular.
its popular for a reason, reliability is amazing and me too have been sticking with it for years, very disappointed why ltt decided to rank it as mediocre meanwhile a lot of people use it
I have a Cloud Alpha too and it sounds awesome
All of you all havent heard good headphones and it shows
@@Jupiters1337 Lmao I’ve been using an Astro A40 and an A50 and decided to go for the XCloud 2, lost a little bit of sound quality overall but the headset was $50 cheaper than the A40 and $150 cheaper than the A50 but remains really good nonetheless.
"trying all these headselts out yourself, isn't really a workable awkption"
0:08 change my mind
Lol
I have been looking for a SteelSeries-like headset that has two headphone jacks and a mic. Any suggestions?
I just bought these OneOdio headset from Amazon (not really a gaming headset) and it's actually a great headset, comes with a lot of options for connections. Shocked it's not on here. You guys should look into that product. Good Video Headset Homie! I'll be checking out some of these in the near future.
Bought myself Cloud II, damn I'm happy. I want to say: "Thank you dankpod".
Cloud 2s might be the pinnacle for gaming/music listening.
@@JoshaSolomon and you can find them for only £60 the wired version
@@JoshaSolomon bro cloud 2s are great but I wouldn't call them the pinnacle for music listening
@@TheEpicAppleEater01 Maybe for gaming while listening to music. Lol
I bought them recently and the mic is meh but for music it's acc really damn good... bought it cause of dankpods as well lmao
Does anyone have the link? I cant find it even tho i got the right answers
I can't speak for other headsets in this round-up, but personally the Audiotechnica headphones are pretty great once even a gamer level DAC is involved. I went through 3 other sets of headphones before I got these: Corsair HS50 (probably only good as a pair to thrash), a Roccat Pro type pair (I can't remember the model at the moment but they were really good, just way to open for me) and a pair of Hyper X (to good at noise cancellation so much so I was a little worried/paranoid I wouldn't hear someone break into my house let alone hear if my partner shouted for help, they will be my block out the public/travel headphones though).
The Audiotechnica pair however were perfect once connected to my original Turtlebeach Elite TAC or my 1st gen TR Astro DAC, worked great on both which is saying something since the Astro DAC is not fantastic and the only reason I'm using it is because the Series X doesn't have optical audio and unless it has changed recently Turtlebeach haven't pushed USB support for the original elite TAC. The Audiotechnica pair are still decent without a DAC, but the experience/sound quality is definitely much better with a DAC. While many people like to dump on Astro, their sound quality was always quite good although the Mic was quite subpar, but I would say the Audiotechnica set beat them pretty easily- they are lighter, sound much better and are waaaaay cheaper which is always a bonus.
Can you help me should I get a power supply if I am getting a ps5 and NZXT tower and they will be in the same area. Is it necessary to get one?
I love videos like these(at multiple price points). Please keep doing them and refreshing them yearly.
When you click on the notification immediately and know all the answers to the questions but can’t figure out the spelling of the url. Come on
It was Torx.
Happened to me for a second too. Sorry bro :(
It’s gone now, but the link wasn’t that hard to figure out, only tricky part is the way torx is spelled. Try using subtitles next time you can copy the exact spelling of each keyword

Hi, Blackshark user here. Just a disclaimer that the mic quality is actually much better if you plug in directly from the 3.5mm and that the soundcard does limit the quality!
what about gaming, hearing footsteps and all that with the 3.5mm, I play csgo that's and I'm considering them, that's why Im asking, any issues?
@@elpibeyosi you can definitely pick them up quite well. It still gets the job done without the USB drivers.
Just picked up the Corsair HS70 Pro Wireless from my local best buy for 85$ after tax... Can't imagine a better deal for a wireless gaming headset. So far, they've been amazing
