Hey Achim, it’s always a pleasure to hear your wise point of view on diving topics, here in Italy price of Helium is 0,051 € /l, in Egypt I paid helium 0,07€/l 😱, but, at least I did fantastic dives!

I'm still diving OC trimix in Canada (west coast), but I have a couple of things working in my favour: I still fill using partial pressure mixing, so order large industrial cylinders of helium and oxygen from a gas supplier, and have had the contract for a while so even then I have favourable pricing, and I also don't have the chance to dive quite as frequently as I'd like, so the economics for me are pretty close to the break even point. If I were diving more frequently, that would easily tip in favour of the rebreather, but I'd have to make some compromises for a while to afford the big ticket outlay for the unit and the training, and then would feel compelled to have to dive often in order to maintain my competency on the unit, where OC is a bit more like riding a bike, so to speak.

I think we paid 6p/l at the weekend, 7s of 15/55 were £37.50 each, so our D7 set was £75. I think there's room for OC trimix upto about 45m, or 21/35 mixes if you do upto about 12 dives a year. After that, CCR is the way ahead. Dived a couple of 43m wrecks last weekend and thought a twinset and stage might just be easier, but then into 50m on Monday was glad of the CCR. I think you're right in there being no hard limit.

Hey Achim, hows it? Glad to see you here at least. Long time no see. Have not dived Trimix since 2018, before Covid. Too expensive. As a result, have not done any deco dives. I tech dive all the time im my police dive unit. Just not deep any more.
When I'll have enough money put aside, plan to buy a rebreather.
Have my eye on KISS, but Megaladon or Copis are winking at me. Would love a video on what you think of them.
    Lovely video.
Regards to Michel&Tina & the Family.
    Thanks.

My double LP85 cost $125 USD for a new fill. And that’s after my Divemaster discount and my local dive shop. I’ve bought a choptima rebreather and I’m doing the CCR course with it July 14 - 20 so I expect after that I’m not likely to do much OC trimix. I spend over $100 to top up after a tech dive with 21/35 while my buddies on rebreathers can get 4 or 5 dives out of the same amount of gas. It’s certainly driving up the sales of rebreathers

Hello Achim, We are here in Spain working in our diving school, We start to dive with a Apdiving system and one of the reasons was the Helium price. We are paying 0,038€/lt. Diving on OC each bubble is 1€ more less.

We’ll see if using hydrogen as the inert gas will take off, it has worse narcosis values than helium but might be worth it at certain depths.

Makes sense helium is way expensive, people are going ccr. 1 fact remains true the depth record is still deeper for oc than ccr. I believe for oc it's 1200 ft, ccr it's 940 ft

well. Diving gear doesn't have any upgrades for the last 10-15 years. rebreather is still hard to find hard to purchase and not easy to get instructors. certification is all over the places. without newer type of gear, diving can only go so far. tech dive is too difficult and way too heavy in cold water, recreational diving can only stay so short underwater. not lots of investment going into it as well. I don't see how diving is going anywhere anytime soon.
