On the North End of the iconic, Las Vegas Strip sits a massive, glass tower higher than any other building down the boulevard. For those who have visited the strip, the sight of this infamous tower has become all too common. Today I wanted to figure out what happened here and how what was supposed to be a new resort brand failed miserably and left a never finished mega casino left abandoned. This is The Drew, or formally known as the Fontainebleau Las Vegas.

Yeah… idk about there being a magical time before corporations in vegas. The entire history of the city, from its founding, is based on gaudy excess and making quick bucks. Preserving historical vegas locations would have been nice, but the culture doesn’t really allow that. The old casinos had some incredible historical value, don’t get me wrong, but the reality is that the managers and land developers had the same ‘disposable money sponge’ perspective back then as they do today.

They said End of 2023 opening a year ago but who knows now. They’ve been saying that for ten years though, two years ago I worked there for a week then Covid hit and they shut down again so we’ll see if it actually happens. Fingers crossed.

With the next future phase of the Las Vegas Convention Center being built on the opposite corner from the Fountainbleau site (the old Riviera Site), and with Resorts World now open across the strip, the Fountainbleau should be finished and opened. The north end of the strip will eventually catch up to the southern portion of the strip. Both hotel-resort properties would greatly support conventioneers coming to the Las Vegas Convention Center, further developing the older desolate-looking north end of Las Vegas Blvd.

Consider yourself lucky to be gone. The city is a shadow of its former self! Bad enough there are mundane mega resorts with no character to speak of, but they're charging for parking, resort fees, and the bums are allowed to sleep in the doorways of resorts like Harrah's and Ceasar's! No joke, they are turning The Strip into SF! Most buffets are still closed too! They reopened the buffets only for Circus Circus, Excalibur and Baccanal (and you have to make a reservation for that one!).

I’m very excited about this documentary. I grew up 45 minutes from New Orleans And JazzLand was the biggest thing ever. Everybody was so excited we used to always plan trips ago it was so much fun and we were so sad when they decided not to reopen it but Katrina devastated a lot and JazzLand it’s just a moment to what really happened and not what they just show on TV

I have an idea for this series: The Ryugyong Hotel. It’s an abandoned skyscraper hotel in North Korea with 105 floors.

@@nmnmnm35 i know but i just want to see his take on it because his style of editing and the fact that he has his own series on topics just like the hotel makes it an interesting video idea. thats all.

Wow - this is an incredible story and is amazing how it came full circle with the Sofer family. This story has the making similar to the American Dream mall in Secaucus, NJ

I used to visit Vegas quite frequently back in the 70s and 80s. A few more times during the 90s and into the 2000s. I even hitch hiked from Columbus Ohio to the end of Route 66 in California. On the way back was my 2nd visit to Vegas in 1974. Back then Vegas was an exciting place with more to experience and see than you could take in in one full day. Over the years something has happen, especially when they supposedly chased the so called "MOB" out of Las Vegas. It has become more like a Disneyland and a joke in my book. Vegas has long lost it's roots and originality. My last visit was in 2010 to a convention held at the Circus~Circus. I was disappointed and appalled at what Vegas had become then. I have no desire to ever visit Vegas again!!!
