  • After sitting dormant and abandoned along the North end of the Las Vegas Strip, the Fontainebleau Las Vegas, has finally opened to the public. I'm flying out to Vegas to take a look at what has happened to this infamous abandoned building and provide a 2024 update!

Honestly, i am genuinely shocked that a project like this, delayed and abandoned so many times by so many owners over nearly 2 decades, ACTUALLY got completed. You almost NEVER hear of this happening, and the projects typically stay abandoned and rot after so many years of failed attempts and deterioration. Impressive

Atlantic City could be a very nice place with more hotel developments. They just have an issue with blighted abandoned structures which is unfortunate. Speaking of mega projects, Ford Motor Company is supposed to open an 18 story formerly abandoned train station in Detroit, Michigan on June 6, 2024. It has been a 30+ year dream of the Ford Motor Company to renovate Michigan Central Station into a office building and hotel. You might remember that area is nearby where the Southwest Detroit Hospital is sitting abandoned.

I got a few red flags when I came gambling,
    1. The cocktail ladies give out Fiji as their complimentary water
    2. They serve pretty heavy pours in high quality glass (polar opposite of every other hotel)
    3. All the casino chips are electronically chipped (unsure if this is a thing in other properties)
    4. The slot machines feel a lot more spaced out than your average casino.
I loved the decor, and how well the ribbon was adapted to the design, but I am worried that their operating costs are way too high and they will be burning through a lot money real quick, especially with its low occupation costs

The logo on that building was originally created to show case itself of what will soon to be the “new fountain blue.” I was told at my job (where me and one other person cut those pieces out) that it was going to be installed to advertise its grand opening on new years when TV’s around the world would panel on that end of the strip. It was made out of Vinyl with no lamination believe it or not. Surprised they were able to remove it without the windows falling or ripping off little by little pieces due to the extreme weather

The 67th floor "rooftop bar area" is going to be a private club, the Poodle Room. Foundation Room at the top of Mandalay Bay similarly started as a private club and has since abandoned that concept. Fontainebleau's clientele, the few that there are, might be the types to buy into a private club, but I just can't imagine enough to be sustainable.

Im a North Strip fan ....Wynn and Resorts World are my favorite places to stay and rarely do we venture past Venetian. This spot is definitely on our list for a stay next time. Once it gets a little more filled out/completed.

Love the abandoned content and really appreciated this video. However, it's tough to evaluate a casino hotel and it's place in Las Vegas on your first trip to Las Vegas. There is no better location than where the Bellagio is on the strip, it will always be full as an icon at nearly the heart of the Strip. The Resorts World and now FB are pushing the strip north and it's still kind of crummy with Circus Circus and other lesser properties working against them. Also, it takes time to fill those retail spaces. I'm not promoting FB, but only 4/5 months in no space is 100% full, it needs time and as a Vegas aficionado I'm pulling for the property. Keep up the great work!

So wild. I've been visiting Vegas frequently since 2013 and would always see it when it was an eyesore imagining what could have been. To see it operating after so many years is mind blowing. I'm looking forward to visiting it next month

They were actually building the tower when me and my wife got married in 2005, now we have three kids and we’re divorced. This project lasted longer than my marriage.😂

Going with what you said about the AC units, another thing that’s interesting is the elevators here. They were installed back in around 2007 or maybe even before that. They were sitting, fully installed or almost fully installed for 15 years. They had to modernize them before the hotel opened, but they kept a lot of the old parts and added new parts.

I have watched many of your videos and it is heartwarming to see a project actually open. So many of your stories show projects that cost a lot of money and are never finished which is such a waste of time

I was just in Las Vegas last week for work and didn't get a chance to check out Fontainebleau. It looks really nice lit up at night from the Westgate. It's a crazy 17 year journey for that hotel though. I'd like to think of it as the oldest new resort in Las Vegas.
The North end of the strip seems to have a bit of a cloud around it given the struggles with both FB and RW to finally open. I've stayed a RW a couple times since its opening and I really like it, and even sneak my way over there for the cigar lounge even when I'm not a hotel guest. Nothing wrong with more rooms coming online in Las Vegas.

I saw the hotel when I was there in November 2023 and they were still finishing up a few last minute details then. It's cool to see the place finally open and getting the fair it deserves. I'm not surprised about the six dollar water because we were paying eight dollars for cans of Red Bull.
I think wants to hotel gets filled to capacity with shops in other amenities. It will hit it's stride. Pretty cool video as usual though and I appreciate it. All the hard work definitely shows. Keep the videos coming.

Great info! Had no idea about the history. Stayed at this hotel recently for a great price on a Sunday. This might answer why I felt the TV's in the room were dated with no chromecast capabilities or smart apps installed. Assuming they did the deal like a decade back and had many of the items stored away until it officially opened. 🤔
