As an Italian I think that the taste may be the only logical reason that can lead the troops to not like this prototype ration. It has a very different preparation style from the usual canned food of standard rations, therefore it is also likely to have a very different flavour.
Maybe it was rejected due to having so many different vendors and outsourcing of food items. Aside from that, for the most part it looks delicious and kept a longer shelf life than expected.
Outsourcing the production of Italian food to non Italian companies is a problem (a political one first above all) here in Italy (the government here is very active against foreign companies copying our trademarked foods, I doubt it will be happy to serve Italian sounding food to the troops, and the troops tasting those prototype rations probably told the difference in taste and quality compared to the usual ones).
In 1991 during Desert Storm we had mre bread singles in addition to mre's - was similar to wonderbread. Anyone know why it was discontinued? It was a wonderful addition especially w ham patty and some cheese!
Might their complaints have been about serving size rather than flavor? Seems like it was really good, but the mains were kinda small. Great to see you back!
Idk love these MRE videos but steve1989 utube vids are so cool and has a crazy passion for MRE and givez each country proper vids and gives history of all rations..even ones 70 yrs old from diff militaries ..he will eat it if can ..lets get this out on a tray..nice..mmkay!!..great review btw love your channel

I guess that is OK if it is warm but that part of the world gets pretty cold and it would have been nice - save for adding hot water - to be able to have a hot meal
The 9" reggimento d'assalto paracadutisti Col Moschin is the italian army tier 1 special force. I think the italian soldiers didn't like since the main dishes are too dry, even if You add boling water it doesn't taste as goid as the ones in the cans. Theere is no need of boling water for the pasta with sauce or minestrone ... they can be eaten also cold. Instead these ones are too much dry, adding cold water doesn't blend with the sauce.

Another thing that I don't understand is why there are 2 plates of pasta for dinner... in Italy, for dinner, people never eat pasta, so I don't understand why they put two plates of pasta for dinner! If you look at who produces the pasta it is an English company... this is not italian food! Usually in the italian army there is a stove and the stuff to heat up the food and I haven't seen it in this ration. Others important elements in the italian ration is the canned meat and the toothbrush (and obviously the toothpaste too) but they are absent here! One last thing, Italian rations are famous because they are three boxes contained in a large envelope, but these rations are made differently. I think this ration is not for the italian soldiers, probably it is for the civilians.
Let's start by opening the moist towelette (???) and then we will get some utensils that don't come with the ration and then we prepare a drink from the ration the way it is not intended... uhh... okay bro
