I was with German AF in the late 1970‘s. Our MRE‘s were just like this / very similar. They were very good. BTW they are intended for a whole day (24 hours). All the main dishes were very good, definitely regular civilian grade (I only disliked one with fish due to personal taste - I do not like fish at all.)

Put the hot sauce into the beans. And yes, keep a scissors handy. It's easier than using a knife.

I am a U.S. Marine Corps Combat Veteran. I served 2002-2010. In 2004-2005, I was in Iraq! My second deployment. I fondly remember menu item number 1. It was pretty decent, when fresh! The milkshake was never all that good..lol! Keep up the great work!

I have a fond Memory of eating that mre, eaten during a pause after a long movement in the cold and wet It seemed the best dinner ever. I recall i put It in the frh while we were still moving and put It back in a pouch of my LBE, It heated on the move and It was hot when we stopped.

I had first strike MREs when I was i Afghanistan. It is basically a 24-hour ration. There are stuff added to Striker meals that are not put in the regular MREs. There used to be Hilal and Kosher meals, too. Those would probably hard to find because all those items in it were off the shelf, food, and snacks and looked like it was made hastily for Jewish and muslim soldiers or given to local contractors, not quit sure though.

You Americans would squeeze everything into your food too, wouldn't you? Pepper butter doesn't belong in a bean dish, there is no cheese in pepper butter (I don't know what kind of cheese you eat but it doesn't even smell like cheese!). There is no cheese in German MRE's, absolutely not.

What you notice is that you Americans have totally damaged your taste buds through your food industry and the sugar lobby. I don't know whether so much corn sugar is good for the brain, especially since enough diabetics are condemned to death because they can't afford insulin in the States The whole world provides their diabetics almost for free, see Canada! What I wanted to say is that you Americans are influenced by corn sugar from a young age and your taste buds have suffered. Mousse au chocolat is prepared with cold water and muesli is also made from the German MRE. The German MRE is the best you can get in NATO and also tastes the best.

As a US soldier for 14 years I never fantasized about any MRE.

Back in 2007/08, the best MRE I ever ate was a beef paddy with mushroom gravy. Came with a chocolate brownie cookie.

The heater didn’t work because u didn’t fold the bag. I’ve eaten many of these during my tour. Read the instructions there their for a reason.
