it's the soundtrack from the first "Highlander" movie, with Christophe Lambert (if you haven't seen the movie, just don't hesitate, but only the first one). There were other little gems from that soundtrack, like "Princes of the Universe" (I'm sure you've heard this one!) or "One year of love", "Kind of magic".
Beautiful sountrack for a wonderful movie. Too bad the following movies sucked but the tv series was good IMO. There are rumors of a Highlander reboot with Henry Cavill (Yes, Superman himself, lol).
No, the sadness has to do with the story of the movie: it's about immortals who have to go on living while watching the ones they love die. "There can be only one", is the mantra of the movie, the immortals have to fight each other for "The Prize".

God Bless our beloved Freddie. Remember this was during the AIDS epidemic and so many people were dying. That must have had some bearing on this beautiful song. So the song hits us emotionally on so many levels.

My favorite song from Queen since I saw Highlander (the movie) when I was really young. And still my favorite ! Just sad that the video you react was cut before the last notes of the song. Great reaction thank you !

You have the most fun reactions, I actually watch you and not them! This song gives me chills every single time. Brian May’s almost angelic voice here in contrast to Freddie and his powerhouse voice. And there is nothing better than when you combine rock and roll music with an orchestra, something you think wouldn’t work but it really does! Plus the kid’s at the end? Chills just all the way! ❤️

You should check out the movie Highlander that Queen wrote the movie soundtrack for. Freddie wrote Princes of the Universe, Roger wrote It’s A Kind Of Magic, Brian wrote this song Who Wants To Live Forever, and John wrote the gorgeous song One Year Of Love. All 4 of these guys were multi talented musical geniuses especially when they created together. A symbiotic energy formed.

The song was made for the movie “Highlander” about an immortal who loses the love of his life yet still chooses to go on and do great things. Good movie. Immortality is shown to be a curse, with loss/death giving meaning to every moment we have. Brian May captured the power of that idea in this song.

I like how in the end it's triumphant: like, 'Fuck it! You're only gonna be around for a short bit of my immortal life, so I'm just gonna have to cram an ETERNITY's worth of love into that short life of yours however I can!'

    It’s MacLeod (“ma-cloud”) 😂
My favourite ever song, just because of the build-up (starting with Brian’s softer voice, progressing to Freddie’s powerful voice), the tension, the resolution, the joy, the despair, the depth (with the full orchestra), the perfect guitar solo. It’s completely atmospheric. It’s a masterpiece.

When they recorded this song Freddie sang the first two verses. But he was so sick he couldn’t come back to finish the last verse. So Brian sang the last verse on the recording. But no matter it’s a beautiful song. Well done by all! They’re all extremely talented! Love Queen! No other band can compare to them!

Thanks for this one. Yes it is very epic in the video, with the orchestra. However, the live version, with only Freddie singling lead and the boys harmonizing is amazing and also captures the greatness of both the song and Freddie's singing. Please react to the live version in Budapest. thanks.
