Is it possible she always knew how to escape”without human intervention , but needed to mourn and stay by where her mom died for a period of time ?
Either way, a happy ending to this story.
No there was a sandbar holding her captive she was hesitant to cross it the whole time I guess she got a little bigger and a little braver and a little more desperate. She waited till high tide and she got over finally they also coax her with seal food to get her out of the lagoon. Her pregnant mother died on the sandbar. The mother was taken away at that point so there was no mother to grieve anymore.

Yes it is possible. They had taken away the body, but how was the calf to know that. They are exceptionally smart creatures, they have been observed "wearing" sea animals on their bodies as a form of decoration, and they have an advanced form of communication.

That is what I was thinking. She needed time to grieve. Then she was ready to move on.
She couldn’t escape because the water was too low prior, that was also a factor.
I am very happy that this little feller finally escaped the lagoon. Too bad it had to leave as an Orphan.

I just hope the baby can find the rest of her pod without anything happening to her while she's alone.
It would have been magical to witness her departure at 230am under a blanket of stars.✨ Now that she is free, hopefully her pod will hear her cries so they can teach her everything she needs to know to take care of herself in the deep blue sea. 🌊

Poor thing! 🐋 What a traumatic experience for the whale 😢. Hope she finds her pod and she’s going to survive the ordeal now that she’s free.

Vancouver island is not a remote community. Her family will find her. They have been looking for her.
The remote community that the orca was in is Zeballos, which is on Vancouver Island.
