Never heard the ORG, but I’ve owned a few Pallas pressings. I was unimpressed by the Pallas. I ended up with a mint EU OG (Sonopress Germany) and that’s just an absolutely unreal pressing. If you want your OG back, find a Sonopress. Thanks for the review.

Hey Ron. The 3rd seller at $120 is NTX Vinyl (North Texas Vinyl) run by G.I. Sanders who has a reputable 3 locations in the DFW (Dallas Fort Worth, TX) area and sells via his website also, plus Discogs and WhatNot. Totally credible business and solid ratings and delivery. I did a 2-part interview with him in the early days of my channel. Thanks for the video and stay well :)

I have ORG pressings of Nevermind, In Utero, and Unplugged. They all sound so good I never felt the need to upgrade. Sometimes you just that sense when you first play a record and how it makes you feel. Your comparison confirms that. Thank for the video.

    Full history:
ORG originally produced this record and plated it at RTI in California in 2009.
In 2010, ORG had Pallas doing the pressings
2013, ORG lost the license to this album and so Universal started cutting their copies using the same stampers and factory (Pallas) as the ORG pressing was. Except instead of “ORG-032,” being engraved in the deadwax, it shows as “XXX XXX.”
Sometime in 2020, the plates were probably too worn down and was recut. I assume the plate was worn down because the deadwax inscriptions are basically unseeable on some of the pressings made by pallas.
You can tell which one is which by reading the deadwax. The original 2013-2020 Pallas pressing has both the “XXX XXX” stamp as well as the RTI stamp {“18200.1(3)”}. Don’t let the Bernie Grundman signature deceive you, because he cut both the ORG and the 2020 Universal recut. Also, the 2013 ORG cut still has a grooved maroon label. The 2020 recut’s label is more gray and is not grooved.

I have the Pallas pressing and it sounds good but not surprised the ORG is the way to go. Too bad it is so expensive. In 1991 cd's were all the rage and viny was not as hot. Now records made from that time from major acts are highly sought after. Anyone have a time machine? lol

It's also about the vinyl used, the Marvin Gaye GZ press was not engineered as per the RTI press hence the huge sound quality issue. The chemical used in the electro plating is critical, cheaper means larger crystals and may mean poorer sound. So 8/10

HI Ron, Yes Sir! You are right about the comparison between the two (ORG & Pallas). I have both plus the 1991 OG. The ORG is better than the Pallas press, and I have an early 2013 Pallas press. I just did the comparison today. The 1991 1st pressing is the ultimate killer, but if on a budget get the ORG.

this 2009 ORG pressing had an even earlier pallas pressing in 2010. have you heard that one? i hear it's almost as good as the original. (in utero had two similar pressings.)
i assume this is the much more recent 2017 pallas. (there's also one from 2013.)

The same plates were used for the record but the facility makes a difference and the ORG were from the first stampers. But the folks who got the early pallas pressing said they were very good and for the price Great value.

Wow, awesome video Bro! Great discussion of Discogs and of the plating. I know you have mentioned this before, but even though I've been collecting vinyl for over 40 years, I never realized that the plating could make so much difference. I'm glad that you have explained how important that is.
BTW, I have an OG of Nevermind too, along with a whole bunch of records I happened to buy at that same time. I remember walking into a used record store here along the coast north of San Diego, and yeah it was about 1991 or so, and I heard this album playing and I was 'WOW! what the hell *IS* that?!!' So, I went to the counter and they were playing The Screaming Trees: Uncle Anesthesia (Still one of *THE* most creative album covers of all time!) I had never ever heard anything like it before and I immediately bought it. I looked it up once many years ago and it was worth like $190 or something silly. It's funny, as I'm going through my records now and slowly adding all my albums to my Discogs collection, I'll come across some innocuous album, like the other day I came across Boston IV. Probably a lousy album, but when I looked it up there was only one for sale for about $300! That is so amazing when that happens, not to mention what that OG of Nevermind is worth now 😊 but, I'm not planning on selling it.
BTW, the entire time during your video, my eye kept shifting over to that lovely Hendrix box that I am waiting for. I just couldn't help it, my eyes just kept going over to it 😁 Mine should be here tomorrow; I sure *HOPE* it is the same QRP pressing!
