@@Poolelementary well i did what he did but all I seem to be doing is pushing the trash around. No suction at all. adapter just floats to the top...
You saved me! I was getting anxiety thinking I was going to need to buy a $1200 automatic vacuum because I didn’t know manual was an option or how to even do it. This is easy. I’m going to get these supplies today. Thank you 😊
Thanks for watching Alicia.

This was a very helpful video. Thank you so much!
Thank you for this video. It helped me troubleshoot my issues and get my pool clean in time for the holiday weekend.
Another Great Video!
I actually adjusted the actual actuator to an actual accurate flow, achieving an accumulative response accurately, actually! But for real, this was actually what I needed, thanks! 😊
Wow, you just taught me so much about our sand pool filter. Thank you!!
Thanks for watching Laura B
Great video. Thank you.
Best video I've ever seen on this topic and the one that taught me how to do this. I love you.
Thanks for watching and good luck with your pool!
This is exactly what I needed to know. Now I'm off to attempt to vacuum out my pool for Memorial Day Weekend.
Simple and informative. 👍

Great video thank `you!!!!
Subscribed! I own a few water parks in India, and even though a lot of stuff shown in this video isn't available here in India readily, the video helped a lot. We get a lot of people everyday in the pool and so we need to shock the pools everyday. We need the pool clear within 12-15 hours. It's a tough job to do.
We manage to keep the water blue, but keeping it clear and non cloudy is the biggest problem.
Have been trying to find an answer for that at our scale. We manage about 1 million gallons of water a day per water park.
Great work and details !!
Thanks bruh I need it to know for my new job 👍
Great Video 💪😄 Thank You!!!
Thankyou! And thanks for watching pool elementary!

When you first open your pool and your vacuuming the algae that pool shock hasn’t removed setting on the bottom of the pool , what setting should your filter head be set to? Thanks
I like to vacuum to waste when removing the initial algae to get it out of the pool but you can use your filter position as well.
Where does the water the vacuuum suck goes? Is it a cycle that goes back to the pool?
Depends on what you have your filter set to and what kind of filter your pool has.
As far as I understand the water goes from the vacuum to the filter and then from the filter to the pool again and then when we finished vacuuming we have to clean the filter letting out that water to the drainage. Is this correct? This is a really helpful video! Thanks
Correct
If i set my multiport at filter do i need to open, return or not? If i set multiport at waste what do i need to open? Because when i did filtration all the dirt that suck by vacuum, its all coming back to the return haha.
when your about to clean pool do you turn the pump off to shut off main drain or can it stay on while shuting off drain?
As long as your sure you have a valve that only shuts off the drain your good to shut it with the pump running this should instantly double your suction on the skimmer.
It there a way to vacuum if there is 2 inches of mud, no leaves?
I beleive you need to vacuum to waste and not into the sand filter.
Any reason why not to vacuum to waste instead of using filter and backwashing? Im opening a pool using a vacuum for the first time and am thinking that's the best way right?
Vacuuming to Waste does use quite a bit of water but is one of the best ways to remove dead algae and the smallest debris from your pool. Running the vacuum through the filter will save you water but you will have to vacuum multiple times to get the filter to take it out.
What would you recommend to get leaves out of pool if not this method? Thanks
Hi Jo I always use the pool leaf net with the scoop on it to do my leaf removal. It does take some time but is effective. Here's a example leaf net. amzn.to/3KamvzQ
So water or no water in the hose?
Fill hose with Water .
Thank you ! Now i am wonderinh why my pool guy drains some water out to vacuum
The water level needs to be about an inch or so below the skimmer
Just bought a property has a under ground pool with Haywood pump system, am still not sure how to turn the valves properly, wish 0:06 someone should help me with that. 0:06 0:06
You got an oreq stinger hose.. I use a 40 footer for my central vacuum.. I have the neon green at 40 ft as well
Great video and what an incredible view that pool has! Where is this in Montana?
Thanks Yulman! We're in the Missoula area of Montana
@@Poolelementary a river runs through it! We drove to Glacier from Houston a couple of years ago and yearn to be back some day. Enjoy every breath you take in God’s country my brother!
Hope you do make it back up here sometime it is beautiful country up here and I definitely enjoy every part of it!
I was told by my local pool supply co the skimmer plate is only intended to be used with a certain brand of filtration system. I need to vacuum heavy debris (pine needles) and originally thought this would be the solution so the skimmer basket would catch the debris. Is this wrong info?
Skimmer vacuum plates that fit over your skimmer basket is the solution. You don't want all those pine needles plugging up your lines. You should be able to find one that will fit your skimmer. If not they make leave style Vacuums that have a bag attached to the that you hook up to a garden hose and it pushes the debris up into the bag.
Adam, look into leaf filters that install in-line just prior to the skimmer connectiom.
No need to shut down pump after vac. Simply open drain valve, close vac/skimmer valve. Remove vac hose, then reverse valves.
Hey do you put your pump on waste or backwash?
You can either vacuum to waste or on filter setting. Remember if you vacuum to waste your going to lose alot of water so I normally vacuum on filter then backwash when done if needed.
Hey I have a question I thought you were supposed to keep the filter on backwash while vacuuming?
Definitely do not vacuum while filter is on backwash. In backwash the water is running backwards through the filter and will plug your filters laterals which are the screens that keep the sand or glass in the filter
What about the water level? At what point do you have to stop and bring the water level back up?
You want to add water before it gets down to an inch of water flowing into the skimmer
What do I do if the vacuum hose keeps disconnecting from the vacuum
I usually will just tighten a hose clamp down on it and it will not fall off any more.
Should the filter be cleaned before doing this?
This totally depends on how dirty the pool is but if your pressure is up 3-4 lbs from the clean filter pressure and your pool is pretty dirty then yes I would clean the filter before vacuuming so you have adequate suction to your vacuum. If your just doing some spot clean up like just the corners or some debris that settled just in the deep end or something your probably good to just vacuum and clean the filter afterwards. I never like my pressure on my filter to be over 8lbs from the starting pressure of a clean filter.
I know this is an old video but do you keep that machine on 24/7 to filter your pool or can it be on every 8-12hrs a day?
If the pool is balanced and the water is clear then 8-12 hours a day should be enough.
If the water is clear then 8-12 hours a day should be enough.
@@Poolelementary thanks. If not clear 24 hours?
That drain line valve is incorrectly installed. Should be inline when open and perpendicular when closed
If you place the hose over a skimmer basket to suck water from underneath the basket how in the world will debris collect in that skimmer basket???
Is all pool equipment set up the same way as this???
Sorry but most pools are a little different. It depends on the pool builder and how there exactly set up but should be close.
Well, the builder is my dad!! 😂😂😂 I should know this! I’ve retained and understood more in this video than in my whole life!!! 😳😇😂
My dad would be so ashamed of me lol
At 3:34 you’re losing me about the pressure when exactly am I checking that gauge before I do anything or after I turn off the main drain or after backwashing. Sorry I’m such a rookie with a new home and in ground pool and know nothing about it. Maybe go into a bit more detail about the gauge and back washing before or after vacuuming. What do I do if it’s up over 10 so many questions. Thanks
Hello Don, all you need to know is your clean filter starting pressure, which can be found by backwashing and cleaning the filter. Backwashing for a couple minutes should do the job. After that you will have your starting filter pressure and then just repeat the backwashing procedure everytime the pressure is up by 8-10 pounds.
Save me thank you
Thanks for watching!
What if you have 2 skimmers?
Some pools have valves in the pump house so you can turn one of the skimmers off.
The pool police paid me a visit because my pool was so dirty 😲😂😋
Wanted to see how you put your hose away…
Why not vacuum to waste?
Does having a robot mean you don’t need to do this?
Depends on what's gotten into your pool and shape and size of your pool. Robots just zig zag around in your pool not necessarily getting everything
Thank you
