The MiG-23ML is one of the best, if not the best premium jets in War Thunder. While it isn't cheap at 70 USD, it does allow you to efficiently grind the whole of the soviet tech tree as it is a Rank 7 fighter. In my opinion, not only is the MiG-23 an amazing grinder, it is also relatively fun compared to some of other jets that you can buy.

Yup, in a year a lot has changed. Back when I made my first 23ML video 11.3 was one BR step lower than top tier (11.7).

@@WalvisYT It does - you get slats, you get higher G-loading, and it is appreciably heaver. Observably worse in a ratefight but has much better nose authority at medium to high speeds. Also can pull much better AoA and performs better near stall. It is a completely different plane - the ML/MLA is a MiG-23M with a different engine and radar, the MLD a complete airframe revision IRL and that carries over to WT.
@@henryatkinson1479 You are mistaken; the ML is NOT just a MiG-23M airframe, all 'ML' types have a reworked airframe compared the the M. The ML and MLD are identical in WT in every way except 3 major things:
1. RWR.
2. The 23ML can't carry both a R24R and R24T at the same time.
3. The MLD's leading edge slats extend and retract during flight based on pitch input. Increasing AoA, but also decreasing energy retention.
It has wing slats, that is it. Yes, it is a pretty noticeable change, but it's still the same deal, still a good rate fighter.

Never played ML but from experience with every other MiG 23s always switch your radar to MTI mode since it gives you better chaff resistance
The radar will be more resistant to chaff, but for the missile it makes no difference.

I love using the 24T because of its absolutely hilarious range and tracking abilities
just for the performance alone this thing SHOULD NOT face the rest of 11.3 and below, the r24r's are great in the wall of death that happens at treetop tier and vastly surpass 530d and aim7m up close because they have faster initial acceleration. r60m's tend to ignore flares when you enslave them too.

I saw a comparason of the 3 23MLs in WTRTI and iirc the ML had a max instructor AoA of 19.5° while the MLD and MLA had 23/24°

Id say its a good plane yes but in my opinion no premium is worth 60€ or more id say 30€ is appropriate but for that we have the sales i guess
The radar got MTI which is basically Pulse Doppler but only works under 1800 meters altitude. So the radar pretty very good especially when u hug the ground where u can use the MTI (at home pulse doppler) to track ppl through the ground clutter
The standard pulse on this radar is so strong that 95% of the time you don't even need MTI.

I got the f-5c, is the MIG23ML better than the f-5c for grinding? Cuz I might cop it just because after I am done grinding US tech tree I want to grind Russian next. (yes I know, premium thunder, im not looking to spend 8k hours of my life grinding 2 tech trees)
imao it's hard to say which is better. If you are looking for something to grind through the soviet tech tree, then I'd say the 23ML is your best choice.

The MLD has a better radar, rwr and it can carry R77 in real life, so if gaijin adds them that plane might get them

The MLD could not carry R-77's, it couldn't even carry R-27's, but the MIG-23-98 could carry both, while also having a helmet mounted display and more.

mig23ml is a purchase i never regretted. IMO best jet in the russian tech tree as of rn with the rest being missile carrier shit boxes with how theyre modelled.

i used to play the mig23ml to grind ussr when it sill had a very good rwr my strategy was to go at about 5500m-7500m on the opposite side of my team going directly on the enemy teamdiving and shooting my r24t at low flying enemies that werent exepecting to get shotdown this soon (because the plane is basically a fucking rocket) i have a 890kill to 590 death ratio while it was my first ever jet and premium so for me the r24t is still in my little heart haha but get that now with con trail visibility buff and the nerfed rwr this isnt a good strategy anymore

@@WalvisYTlets take 530f for a reason. No matter what radar will it be paired with, that is m2k, or mf1, it will never be good, because its pulse seeker, it really applies to any type of pulse sarh's.
Or lets say aim7E, it doesnt matter if the missile is mounted on ej kai or ej, the missile will perform very poorly no matter what, and that applies to really, every very early cw seeker sarh's.
Ofc im saying all of this, because i understood this quote as "if a missile will have a better radar set, it will perform better, and if a missile will have a worse radar set, it will perform worse"
And while it is true to some extent, for example idk aim7f being handicapped by f4j's radar, it is rarely true.

I have 5 games on 10.3 lobbies with Mig-23MLD and 135 on 12.0/12.3 lobbies, I suppose its the same for the premium one. And its not that fun against Mig-29 and especially F-16s and F-15s. If not then game is stupidly rigged. Well, its still is to be honest

Elaborate. This clip is from a game where I was trying to spam the R60M to showcase what it's like. It's not an example of great gameplay; nobody should be spamming missiles like this.
@@WalvisYT I get your point, the thing that made my brain explode was the energy suicide you committed by keeping your wings fully folded back while in a high speed turn. When in a chasing situation like this or even a defensive one at high speed I would recommend to use manual wing sweep in range of 60%-80% to drastically decrease energy bleed. In this scenario at 4:44 it would possibly allow you to close distance faster. Anyways keep making great content and keep improving as a player we all love war thunder.

I'd say if you REALLY wanted to grind the soviet techtree, buy a lower tier premium like the YAK-3, SU-6, or _maybe_ the SU-11

I've 100 GJN to spend on a premium to grind through the USSR tree, and while you make some great points, I personally don't think this plane is worth $70, or even $35 when on sale
Reason being that I think it is extremely ugly looking.
