    Fully with you on the 8v8. If they're still wanting more players, I'd be willing to flex to 10v10, but any more than that is just too much. Can't wait to see the monsters these missiles become with the guidance and model re-works that are coming in the future. Super night doppler gates, great rear-aspect tracking, long range, and cracked agility are going to make these missiles META re-defining.

      from my experience on the test server
      9v9 is in a pretty sweet spot for me
      not too chaotic, but not too slow especially when it comes to the end game

      god hate late jet furball if your plane is a literal missile bus like the tornado f3 or the early to mid f4 phantoms you will straggle unlike those meta maneuverable jets.

    While i welcome FOX-3, i think it should be added alongside something much more important - ECM
    We already have several ECM-equipped planes, like the F-104S ASA which IRL goes so far as to even remove the proper RWR for a full on ECM suite.

    Honestly, we don't need 8v8, we need RBEC. These missiles are so much deadlier and more unforgiving than even IRCCM-equipped IR missiles that they're simply not going to be fun in a no-respawn deathmatch, no matter the player count.

    The situation of the AIM-120 "going to space" it seems they are modeled relatively realistically, because it is a missile to be llauched from 30-55 thousands feet and with a range of 60-100 miles depending the environmental conditions and the quality of the missile lock. This is the case for all these Fox 3 missiles, since they are all made to be launched from high altitudes and very long ranges. Because of this, if they loose lock, they will often go up and use theor radar's look up and look down functions in an attempt to regain lock with their internal radars. Because of this they are almost always useless at closer ranges. That's what Sidewinders and Sparrows are for.
    Even so, launching most series of the AIM-9 Sidewinder, or any series of the AIM-7 Sparrow, and their foreign counterparts, from a position near the ground and vey close range, in real life, would result on the missile missing the target most of the times.
    Because in the case of the heat seeking missiles there will be a fair amount of hot signals from the ground that could confuse the heatseeking head, when it isn't fired from behind. And in the case of the Active and Semi Homing Missiles they would have a hard time acquiring a lock and being guided to the target, because there would be a lot of interference of terrain and other things. So in both case unless you have versions with more modern all aspect heatseeking or radar homing heads that are more resistant to counter measures and ground clutter, in real life they would simply miss the target.
    Also, there's a minimum range and altitude in which launching these missiles are both safe and effective, to Active and Semi-Active Radar missiles their minimum range are usually 3-4 miles and a maximum range around 20-40 miles, depending the battle's environment, and the the altitudes they are optimized be launched and have peak performance is around 15-55,000 feet. Heatseeker Missiles usualy have a minimum safe launching between 1-2 miles, and a maximum range between 4 and 12 miles, from launching altitudes ranging from 1,500-30,000 feet.
    So if the missiles were molded really realistic, the way people pilot in Air RB would often result in either failure or the plane getting hit by the at least some of the blast of their own missiles.
    Gainiin will probably nerd the Fox 3s, like they did with Fox 1s and Fox2s to suit the crazy and unrealistic fighting style of their game base wich is more skim to WWII style dogfignts, but with missiles and and Supersonic planes. Which is a dar cry from a realistic dogfight between modern fighters which is entirely based on hitting the enemy with a missile launched from BVR. The last time there was a gun kill involving two fixed wing aircraft was in the early days of the Vietnam War, since them, air to air gun kills only happened on Helicopters dogfight, even so the last time it happened was more than 2 decades ago.

    6:03 J-8F isn't only exception: MiG-29SMT also has "unregular" loadout - 2x R-77, 2x R-73 and 2x R-27ER

      yes, but i meant that the J-8F doesnt get any other options; whereas the SMT gets other loadouts with up to six R-77s.

      @@kyoMcMushy SARH would be pretty much unuasable against AMRAAMs, Adders and everything else on long ranges; you'll have to notch while still trying to keep hard lock, when the other guy just can hug the deck. 27ER will be viable only on close range, because of it's acceleration.

    the satellite missile issue is also on the amraam, pl12, and derby/r darter (pretty much the same missile in the game)
    but from my testing, I was able to get a 66km snipe with the amraam, while lucky it maintain its tracking for that long, it was the only missile i was able to fire at such a long distance
    and never really got another chance at a 65km+ snipe with any other missile

    They need to remove the exaggerated multi path propagation so flying low doesn't give invincibility to radar missiles, it's too arcade otherwise, ymmv tho.

      The magic 2 reaches it's full g load at lower speeds than before, meaning it reaches those max g loads a lot faster

    12:38 the F-4F ICE got an APG-65 radar (same as on the F-18), did they not get an upgraded RWR too?

      Most sources say it did. But have fun reacting fast enough to turn cold/evade these new mach 4+, 30G+ ARH missile with the incredible manouverbility of a Phantom.

      @@DonutWithMustache of course it will severly struggle against all the shiny 4th gens. On the other hand I can't think of any other Fox-3 capable aircraft germany can get except for the Eurofighter, which I personally do not yet see around the corner. So unless gaijin cooks up something different entirely (swiss F-18? or something like that) I guess the ICE will come along with AMRAAMs

    I like and want 16V16 but this requires proper maps. Current maps are more suited to 8V8-12V12, but the late jet furball is really not fun.

    Should the modern arh missiles lose track when planes are low to the ground ? Or is it a gameplay decision by gajin ?

      Multipathing is a realistic gaijin decision.
      A simple explanation of how it works irl, the ground at close range creates false radar "ghosts" that cause radar missiles to undershoot.
      Ingame, Any plane below 100 meters above ground level is safe from multipathing. This is an artificial *nerf* of it. In real life, 100 meters is too good and most of the missiles ingame before IM seekers (such as AIM-7F) would not track below 2000 meters, let alone 100 like ingame.
      TLDR: radar missiles (both fox 1 and 3) "not tracking below 100 meters" is a buff, since irl most of these missiles would not track at even higher altitudes than 100

      MICA EM can be used on ships in its VL version, and can in fact shoot down antiship missiles flying as low as 5m. Aster 30 (SAM) also uses a seeker derived from AD-4A (MICA's RF seeker) and can shoot down a "tagret flying at roughly 3000km/h, skimming the sea surface (ie

    I’m hoping the issue with multi-pathing is corrected. If hugging the ground worked as well irl as it does in game, then they’d do it irl, but they don’t.
    IIRC, modern missiles like what we’re seeing now are only fooled if you’re dangerously close to the ground, like 10ft close, which at that point if you don’t impact the ground I’m honestly more impressed on that front.
    I would like to see ground hugging become a thing of the past.

    Russia should not receive the r77 unless on early 2010s aircraft as the r77-1. R77 was only exported under the name rvv for over a decade after it was introduced, the new Russian government could not afford it. Hell, they still cant afford it, thats why they are still using the r27er primarily…

    16VS16 is not fun at all, 8vs8 is fun, I'm.hoping they apply this to all top tier game modes, simulator included, since unlike rb where if you die, u die, in sim, if you die and respawn, they get closer to your airfields and you can very well guess what will happen, yup, once you take off there is already a fox 3 heading towards you and you have 15 seconds to defend or pray that they didn't time it right and the moment wheels are up, your dead, the spam wouldn't be fun at all, so 8vs8 in sim, and rb should be forced, for top tier areas.

    Given the track record with french missiles, MICA EM will be fixed... in 1 or 2 years maybe.

      @@nicolaspeigne1429well Gaijin decided to add the AIM-120A with the R77 rather than the AIM-120C-5, so Gaijin want US mains to not have an equivalent missile.

      @@_alucid_ it literally is. The R-77 **without having to loft** reached 80km, whereas the AIM-120A/B reach only 74km. **With (manual) lofting,** the R-77 can reach at least 100km. That is AIM-120C-5 range.

      New mode with less players, air rb model, enduring confrotation gameplay and no enemy markers would be just wonderful for top tier. For now it's just yolo middle map furball. And with arh missiles we'll have to dodge not only enemy missiles but also friendly pitbull missiles, so potential of almost 200 missiles coming at you in 16v16 game :P

    16 v 16 really isn't a problem it's how we have one spawn point all objectives is a tiny area and there is no incentive to use most of the map like Afghanistan why would you flank if the enemy spawns in the middle and you spawn in the middle why would you go anywhere else even corners of the map would work better than what we have right now

    I love how this Fox 3 mechanic has come to Warthunder’s DEV server, like what… 3 days ago? and you are angrily complaining people don’t know how to use them. Not everyone wanks off to planes and DCS in their free time.

      while that is mostly correct, it is also not hard to google how they work (irl or in another game) or look at the other WT CCs who made a video on them already after you teamkilled a few people. Instead, these people just keep using them the same way and teamkilling more.

    You can start calling the R-77 either A. Soviet or B. Ukranian
    They were Designed and Mass Produced in the Ukranian SSR.
    I am not going to call it Russian.

      As much as i support Ukraine, R-77 is made by Vympel OKB which is based in Moscow. It was prototyped during the soviet days but only produced after 1994, after the soviet union fell.
      Whilst i acknowledge the incredible work of Ukranian engineers in soviet aerospace, calling the R-77 a "ukranian" missile is like calling NASA's Saturn-V a "german" rocket.

      If we're being realistic, we should be having 4v4 or 3v3 for top tier battles. "Realism" in this game died a long time ago. Nail on the coffin when they reduced the 1 hour battle time.
