- This RC Jeep is VERY Cheap, but it has 1 really annoying problem!... well, maybe more than 1 lol. It's the NEW MN78 fro MN Models. Passed experience has told me that their RC Cars never really perform as well as they look!

all of the shortcomings are forgiven for the sheer beauty of the body and potential of this truck. The plastics are good, the battery compartment is in the right place and a number of tire/wheel choices to choose from + the electronics are cheap enough to swap out to something decent. I'm happy MN came up with it...now I will have to buy it.
Clearing up some misconceptions..
The body is 1:12. Jeep Cherokees are small.
The rear door opens.
Mirrors fold inward, this hasn’t been seen on MN Models!
Wheels that will fit perfectly are the WPL V1 Wheels.
And yes it does need a bigger motor.
I like my crawlers with that low down control. It's why I buy crawlers with that and a drag brake. Can't always have what we want out of the box though, hence upgrades. But it's all fun and learning.
So what I'm hearing is it's performance is scale with the actual vehicle, Cherokees are ok off-road, but in general need a lot of modifications to perform well. Me ad my wife will be ordering a pair of these.i assume stuffing a wpl 2 speed 370 will make a world of difference.
I used that 2 speed on a MN99S and it did make a difference! :)
Hey man XJs and MJs are awesome...as long as you get the I6
@@masjuggalo I've owned one before, it was an 88 Laredo. It was a decent vehicle. But to make it off-road worthy requires a lot. I did some simple offroading/ trail riding with it before someone decided to wreck it for me. It was ok.
@@Isuzu_PaulI like mine definitely room for improvement but compared to not a wrangler it does pretty good stock
It requires nothing. Xj will beat most any vehicle offroad. You don't need major modifications. Xj is one of the most capable offroad vehicles stock
I appreciate your videos, I recently bought one of these, anticipating that it would be bad because it is practically the consensus of the internet reviews but I was in for a big surprise when it arrived. Apparently there is a new version, because the car I received has nothing to do with the one in most of the old videos, mine is blue, but it's a metallic blue and not the solid one, It already comes with the rear lights painted and the modulation and torque are very different from what we can see in the video, it works exactly like the recently launched mn82, which I consider to have very good modulation.
I agree with you. I've seen some of the latest mn78 videos and it looks like it has enough torque so there's no need to pull the lever very far. minus MN is social media like Instagram, I'm sure if they had Instagram like WPL they would definitely broadcast small updates on MN78. like WPL C74 which has made several updates..
I still love this rig, am still modifying mine & am loving the results so far
have you links to the mods?
That’s pretty much how my sons MN99s performed! Same issues as that! Great look though!👍🏻
I am looking forward to see what you do with it! love the XJ cherokee
It's always good when you upload a new vid keep up the good work
Thank you
I was looking for a Cherokee for my wife since she had one when we met. I found this under dozens of name on Amazon. Thank you for saving my $100 :D I know the sub$150 range tends to get dicey, but this seems really bad LOL
I love the looks of it, I’m a major xj fan, so I might consider getting one and upgrading it
That is a really scale rendition of a Jeep Cherokee. Very cool review.
Looking forward to the upgrades 💯👌👍
The mn99 land rover was my first scale crawler. It's just the body mounted on a full custom rock bouncer chassis now.
can't wait for this one modified video 🤩
Me neither
@@TomleyRC I do look forward to seeing how you modify this. I had in mind a dumbo Rx x6 dcg with a hobbywing 1060 and maybe some mn99 tires
It's very much 1:12, the XJ Cherokee is a compact suv while the G Wagen is full sized
Actually it's pretty good 👍 it comes with a decent transmitter compared to the same priced mn99s
HI PHIL LOOKS GOOD STOOD STILL 🇬🇧👍🏼
HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT WEEK SIR.
I may have to get one because it looks just like my 2001 cherokee except my fender flares are the same silver as the truck, definately would like to see you upgrade this thing in to a beast lol!!!
Hi there from California! So I just had the mn78 out in the yard because I'd say it's one of the best mn models yet. Maybe I received a newer version? Anyhow, thank you as always for the content!
This RC falls into the not really good at any one thing & the question is do you leave it like it is or upgrade it. A lot! So is it worth it? And the funny thing is this is how RC enthusiasts are we buy 500$ RC”s & replace so much on it you have a parts pile of all the original stuff that added to that 500$ price. So not only are you loosing that money you are then buying a bunch of custom upgrades included all the electronics. But this is how it always goes it’s part of RC & we have the freedom to do anything with them we want. And as far as hobbies I’ve been an avid mountain biker for over 25 years & bikes were no different buy a bike replace almost everything. But way more expensive. I learned early to learn to work on your own stuff & learned not to buy cheap stuff & paying more is worth it. Basically get the good stuff & have less to worry about & more time riding. Same for RC especially Crawlers don’t waste your money on cheap unreliable stuff that will cause more down time & less trail/Crawling time. It’s definitely not 1:10 scale but I like it not exactly sure why but if I did get one I think I’d just leave it like it is every RC has its niche & this one is just a cruiser not a crawler. Very light trail RC with an emphasis on Light!
For that price, you actually get a lot, so I see no reason for complaints...
yes, some people expect the entry level rcs to be the same as the 500usd 1:10 beasts lol
however this is a great model indeed, but yes it just only for who want to fun with epic trailing. just daily trailing. but when we want to get more power then we have to cost more and more and more part until its run well. thanks for sharing tomley rc
Though I'm not interested in anything smaller that 1/10th, this isn't bad for the money, especially with that decent scale body including interior. If the shox have "O" rings and a top seal, I'd stick some olive oil in there! I've used it in my Carisma Range Rover and although it's a bit rolly polly due to no sway bars, it's very smooth looking.
They don't. It's the very cheap friction shocks with plastic slots and not even piston. I ordered new shocks and hopefully that helps some with its rolling over
@@obsidiannightwolfe13 To be honest, I don't even know what those friction dampers look like.
Like what you would find At walmart
@@obsidiannightwolfe13 Ah, well since we don't have Walmart in the UK, that'll be why I never saw one of these toys. I think we have a cheapo store/supermarket chain that's owned by Walmart called Asda.
it looks more like a 1/16 or 1/14 but looks really cool still
Yes agree, not big enough for 1/12
Nice video Tony keep it up your doing well 👍😀
This would be the perfect gift for a kid to play in his backyard
Awesome ride and review, Phil! 😃
It does look great... Do you think it's possible to mod it to improve the performance?
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I think that even WPL's new 16A esc would help this out no end Phil.
Great review 👍🏼
I’m getting this and tires is gonna be the first thing I’m upgrading
So happy to see something new from MN 🤤
The new chassis has got some good potential with some soft tyres, oil shocks and some new electronics I think it would do very well on the trail.
Throttle modulation on MN RTR trucks has always been 'twitchy' 😅
Honestly… they’ve had yes to sort it out, and still… 🙄. But… such a nice body 👌
@@TomleyRC it does look very nice fairplay 🤤
It seems they went for control at one point but then lost the power the old RTRs were known for.
Mn86ks was not twitchy at all out of the box, but they somehow messed it up for their last 2 or 3 models since then
Good shelf queen
I'm quite new to the RC looking for a cheap starter crawler. I was eyeing up the MN78 originally but there's so many other budget crawlers out there. Which would you recommend? Thanks. Love the channel btw 😁
Hey I love your videos. Maybe you should review the absima asb1bl there old but fun. Plus d like to no what type of motor upgrades. 👌🏻 keep up the good work my friend.
Time for a head-to-head again? I miss the mini crawler races.
Good video, pity about the performance of the car. Good that you save us buying it.
I'm bummed out you never did an upgrades video on this one
Still pretty awesome for the cost! I like it. I seen a "hyper go" sneak peak didn't I??
the mn78 isnt for rock climbing its more of an offroader rather than an rock climber and its for the road too it explains why it has blinkers
I like the clear lenses
Thank you
"It's a bit too bouncy" ya think? lol.....it bounces around more than the opening scenes for baywatch!!!!
90' baywatch is proof that plastic is actually bouncy, wonder where she is now 😄
@@yannn5541 she? you mean they? lol....they ALL ran during the opening sequence hahaha
Few mods would make the world of difference
I don’t think anybody who has been around for a minute would buy an MN without already having a 1060 and a few other upgrades ready to add. Like you said it’s more a rig for those that love the scale and enjoy upgrading there rigs out the box, certainly plenty of aftermarket parts for them. Gr8 vid for what it is I pref the Cherokee over the Gwagon although whistling diesel has inspired some interest in the Gwagon recently 😂
Love your content. Can you help point me in the right direction for the best budget full size crawler that I can get in the United States?
This one is cool! Would love to have it
For shelf art or seems like good value. Better that a die-cast car.
Problem with mn is that they make Crawlers with gearbox for things like wpl d12
Even wpl c24-1 having less powerful motor have more torque, just slowing the speed would do wonders but for some reason they stick to the high speed setting
I think they were after the word Tough.tbf it's a weird word when you look at it.I wonder how it would work with a esdt70 inside?
Yes… strange
Mine turned up with 1:14 written on the box. I think they must have realised!
i wonder @Tomley, what about mixing the wpl electrics into this MN and see if any better?
I absolutely LOVED my MN99 when I got it. More so than my WPL stuff because it checked off all the boxes for me. So, if it's anything like the MN99/s, everyone will be modding these with ALL the parts. BUT, since there seems to be space limitations with the newly designed skid plate. I wonder how much luck people will have cramming a 370 motor in there with a gearbox and still have a complete interior. Then one has to ask themselves if it's worth the massive investment of time & money to get one running at peak performance. Great beginner/intermediate/scale enthusiasts kit. However, much to be considered. I have also heard there are currently problems with shipping. So people may want to wait a bit longer until they hear some success stories.
after my 1st MN D-90, never again.
too much like work to get it performing half decently.
WPL actually pays attention to customer feedback.
Throw a WPL Res V3 in there and some new wheels and tires and I bet it will run great!
When will you be doing a review on their new model of mn128. The size looks closer to the 86 and it looks like a good base to build up😊
Or even an update on what helped fix this one to make it better
Looks good though ☺️ MN99 was junk?
Maybe a future video upgade this? With better performance Will be great!
How 'bout the wheel base? Is it the same length with MN99? I like the body tho, kinda wanna build using 3rd party full metal chassis MN99 with portal axle, should be more scale look
I might get one and upgrade it
Good job
Hmm.. I never actually bothered with MN's RTR electronics. Bought the Landy cheap, ripped-out the electronics and chugged the controller board and ugly transmitter in the bin, not even tested. Simple Carson 3ch (because their receivers are nice and tiny) 10 Euro micro esc, 180-motor that I had laying around, soft tires from WPL, and You'll have a nice little trailer. I have to admit I went a bit overboard.. :P. : Stuffed-in a Hobbyking lights&sound controller that was more expensive than the whole car.. 🤣
Why don't MN Models listen?
I don't mind for myself because I enjoy the challenge of sorting them out, but you've explained to them where they're going wrong time after time, and they keep repeating the same mistakes.
I didn't even want to review this one LOL. Cool body
Am I the only one that sort of likes the turn signals?
Brushless 3s let's go
honestly a simple trans swap and the wpl electronics would make this jeep a lot better.
Yes 👌
Hello from southeast alaska how's your day going bro
Has it got proporcional steering?
Truck Through Truck!
Thank you for the honest review. I was on the fence with this MN model. But the latest version of the MN electronics has been disappointing. (MN98 & MN99S). At least if I do buy it I know it'll need some upgrades to make it worth while for me. 👍
Decent honest review Phil 👍 great look to it just let down by the performance. When you do the upgrades you mention, could you list/provide links to the parts you use as I would like to get one . Cheers Dave
Hey phil off typical, but did you speed run the stock wl toys 124017?
is there somehwere I can find the hub diameter so I can buy new wheels? thanks!
5mm, you can buy 5 to 7mm adapters that will allow for what I think is a more standard hub diameter.
To be fair a real model on that type of incline and terrain would probably be the same 👍 i had a 4.0l back in the 90s and it was great 👍👍
As always, thanks for the honest no BS review…. I’ll wait for the kit version, from experience the mn90 was better as a kit so fingers crossed This will be the same!
What motor are you putting in?
What scale is this really? Could it be used with the GI Joe Classified 6 inch figures?
Can't overcome obstacles. It is more accurately scaled than you think. Lol 🤣
Idk about a g wagon but a Cherokee looks small next to a 4 door wrangler😢
Is it 1/12 figure in the truck ?
So, does this one lean more towards the MN45/MN40 or is it closer in quality to the MN86?
Probably closer to the MN99s. It only needs a few mods like better wheels and a stronger motor. The body is actually 1:12 scale not smaller
Is there any difference underneath as mn99?
What size figure goes in the car?
They namned it right!- Needs to be gone Through and upgraded!.
Still a great video as always!
Per usual from MN, another beautiful rig but terrible electronics/performance.
No driver hmm mr tomley sir 😁😁😁😁
I’m sure with driver it would still have made no difference but …… 😂
No driver? Did you skip the driving bit 😅
How does this one compare to an wpl c series in size
Whoa they missed the scale by quite a lot. Bouncy like the G500 with its friction shocks. With aluminum threaded oil filled shocks being what $12, every kit sold these days over $75 needs them. Idk it bothers me even with Axial's bs shocks on their high end build kits, like the scx10.2 were junk.. This looks more like a 1:18.
so good
Not a lot of good 1/12 scale bodies around. This one would be nice if you could find parts for the thing.
Shelf Queen!!!!!!bro 😝
I'm pretty sure that I saw a different title :) BTW: Thanks to the movie with fake Mini-Z 4x4, I just ordered the SCX24. It's all of the youtubers fault that i have to constantly buy new RC's ;)
What size is the action figure?
Will the rims fit my C24? Then toss the rest.
I think you bashed it more than it deserved for what its worth. Btw the trunk door opens.
relativity bouncy 😅😅 I think that's a under statement 🤣
Can you slap a 3650 in it for sh*t and giggles ? LOL
