- Extinguishers. The shop is threatened with closure if it doesn't meet the required safety standards, but thankfully Mo drops by with a heap of fire-fighting equipment for Matthew to buy. Meanwhile, everyone's tied a knot in something as a memory aid, but no-one can remember why, plus we take a trip around a fire station. This episode was originally broadcast on Monday, 6th November, 1995, so the primary target audience is those born in the 80s or very early 90s. All are welcome, though.
I don't normally upload Sooty as there are far better channels than mine on CZcams that cater for our favourite little yellow bear, but I don't think this episode is currently 'out there', so here we are. I must stress though that Sooty was always one of my very favourite programmes way back then, although I'd stopped watching by the time The Sooty Show had become Sooty and Co (courtesy of the move from Thames to Granada). Is there anyone out there who didn't watch Sooty? He's almost the universal constant of the last 60+ years, and you still can't beat the Matthew Corbett era as far as I'm concerned. Why? Well, I think it comes down to simplicity. The plots don't confuse, the viewer is addressed directly when necessary, it's not patronising, and the jokes... It may seem like an insult to describe the humour as basic, but really many of the set pieces go right back to the fundamentals of comedy and wouldn't have looked out of place in the silent era. (Sneezing into the talc, looking directly at something that then sprays you in the face, etc. etc.) But then there's performance as well, and the way Matthew doesn't move away and continues to talk matter-of-factly as the fire extinguisher goes off is a prime example of augmenting the already funny situation. A "remarkable brain" indeed.
In case you haven't put two and two together, Mo is played by Brenda Longman, the voice of Soo. She was also in an episode of T-Bag that's on my channel (the one in which the young heroine gets bound and gagged, causing a whole bunch of perverts who are into that sort of thing to descend upon my upload of it and leave heaps of disturbing comments until I cleaned it all up and changed the thumbnail into something less dramatic - depressingly true story), though in earlier Sooty years she occasionally played a sort of bonkers Avon lady in what I think was her funniest character.
Grateful thanks to Ben for providing this recording - please take the time to check out / benriggers when you get the chance.
(To the best of my knowledge, the contents of this video have never been available commercially anywhere in the world. Please also note that I don't monetise any of my uploads. Nevertheless, if you are a copyright holder and have an objection, please don't hesitate to contact me.)
Matthew Corbitt always and forever a legend in my eyes!
He is as funny as hell! He reminds me of someone I know - complete with the boasting!
I too always preferred Matthew Corbett more.
Always!
Transported right back to my early childhood. How wonderful, thanks!
You're very welcome indeed!
That intro bought it all back. I’m a 37 year old now but those were the days when life was simpler…
Today is 15/07/2023 & I'm watching this on my 43rd birthday 🎂 🥂 🍾 💃 🕺 🎉 🍻 🍹 🍷 🥃 🍻 😉 😁 😃
I remembered watching the Sooty and Co on ITV back in the 90's when I was very young. I really do enjoying watching the show and I do wished the whole series is finally released onto complete DVD collection at last.
Thank you so much for sharing this rare gem.
13:58 It was at this moment that Matthew Corbett.. He F**ked up.
Well that's a first in this channel, A Sooty & Co episode, And it's another one I haven't seen before.
Sooty fans everywhere are saying thank you right now for uploading another of the many hard to find episodes right now onto CZcams. Though it was cool to learn that Soo was once in a T.Bag episode. :)
Glad you like it! Here's that episode of T-Bag - Brenda shows up about a minute in: czcams.com/video/-8w19UCFlpc/video.html
@@VideotapeFTW OOOH thank you very much for the link. :)
I've got smoke alarms in most of my flat. I have got one in my hall, one in my living room and one in my bedroom, I have also got heat and CO2 detectors in my kitchen.
@@michaelweech6432 I think it's because pandas are from China, and Soo is a Chinese name (though more commonly a surname). It also mirrors the start of the name Sooty.
@@michaelweech6432 Yeah, I remember seeing that at the time - I was delighted with the winner, too.
I wish we had this in America! You Brits were so lucky!
This was my favorite show of them all 😭
Thanks so much for uploading this video to CZcams
16:23 Smoke Alarms continues beeping
15:20 Smoke alarm going off
13:58 Matthew Corbett's reaction to CGI Fireman Sam
Saved the business WHAAT!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
ah yes the old days when people used to tie knots in their handkerchiefs in order to remember things
something people never ever need to do anymore today
Thanks for this rare episode. I had my Sooty & Co uploads blocked by ITV so hope every one can at least enjoy this one.
Uh-oh. Were they simply blocked, or did you receive a "strike"? Were your uploads monetised? I may have to reconsider a thing or two... Still, glad you enjoyed it in the meantime!
@@VideotapeFTW I believe they were blocked in UK countries by ITV Studios and I narrowly avoided a potential copyright strike.
It saddens me that CZcams has so much copy-written material on here and I personally believe that it's success is due to it (i.e people watching their childhood shows or things they remember from years back)
On top of that most of these uploads (Sooty, Postman Pat, Thomas & Friends and the like) are uploaded by people on the ASD and doing so helps them connect with the universe and gives them purpose in life, yet CZcams sees fit to prosecute them because it's easy money. I know there's more to it than that like protecting identities and such but can't help feeling greed is the motivation.
My advice to you is get a DailyMotion account. This way you can still upload should CZcams shut you down. Thanks again for uploading Mike and Angelo and Sooty. Would definitely not have been possible without you.
@@matthwe3468 Thanks for that - a lot to consider there. I agree with you about the way CZcams is heading, and it looks like there's no going back, so maybe DailyMotion will ultimately be the way to go. I'm here for the time being, though, and will continue doing what I do as long as enough people are still enjoying it. :-)
@@VideotapeFTW That's good to hear. I'm very fond of your channel but at the same time CZcams is ruthless with copyright so beware! There's also the Internet Archive as well. You can post whatever you like there.
@@matthwe3468 Yeah, let's not give CZcams any ideas, eh? ;-) All good suggestions, though - I'll keep going one way or another!
16:32 SHUDDUP!!!!

Sooty y Compañía en Costa Rica de 1997 - 2005 Transmisión: Teletica canal 7
I have a faint memory of an episode where the shop gets a robot with a conveyer belt and puts sooty, sweep and so out of a job, then they change it do give out all the items but without packaging, then mo gets covered.... I would love to see that episode again. Unless it was all a dream....
I have that episode! When my brother’s VHS player works again I’ll upload it 😊
I've just uploaded that episode. Enjoy!
@@themysterybidder5036 Thank you So MUCH!!

Does anyone remember a episode where they meant to be going on holiday but end up on a rubbish tip ? I'm sure I haven't made this up but can't find it anywhere
Mo = Vera Duckworth.
You to ask my mum to record it for me when I was say school love this and rainbow
Sooty and Rainbow were two of my very favourites as well. Emu and T-Bag, too. And that's my channel in a nutshell. ;-)
@@VideotapeFTW I don't remember t bag that must been well before rainbow
@@janelosh9739 It ran from 1985-92, so they overlapped. Maybe this will ring a bell for you: czcams.com/play/PLYzsPPYPRRFUsA_b4K6F1zYLeWirP7opj.html
You don't happen to have the Sooty and Co Christmas Special episodes from 1996 and 1997 do you?
I'm afraid I don't - sorry.
I know someone who has those two episode.
I’m 29 🤣🤣
So will I in one month's time.
I'm 36 I remember these shows
10:40 Matthew asked a question about Rosa Klebb?
then Mo said "I CERTAINLY AM I mean, She certainly will be" that's very suspicious!🤔
13:19 Soo tried to tell Matthew about the handwriting on the letter and Soo's birthday card made by the same person and 13:47 Matthew suddenly realized it's Mo's handwriting, There never was a Rosa Klebb! So Mo The Con-Woman Strikes Again!😡
Do you have a playlist for all of the Sooty&Co episodes you uploaded?
No, there's only a couple (though I've got a 2002 episode with Richard coming soon, so stay tuned if you're interested). You can search channels from the Videos tab on a channel page, by the way: czcams.com/users/VideotapeFTWsearch?query=sooty
@@VideotapeFTW Thanks for your input
Have you got Treasure Hunt in Episode 5?
It is now.
16:32 SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fireman Sam To The Rescue!👨🏻🚒🔥
Never the same with out Matthew
Absolutely - I still don't think he ever got the credit he deserves for his work with Sooty.
