Sooty and Co. S3E5 (1995) - FULL EPISODE

- Treasure Hunt. Matthew orders a mass tidying operation as he can't find a single teaspoon in the whole place, but something he does come across is a mysterious cassette tape with directions to something recorded on it, and "X marks the spot". Is this his ticket to untold riches? This episode was originally broadcast on Monday, 2nd October, 1995, so the primary target audience for this upload is those born in the 80s or very early 90s. All are welcome, though.
The guest star as the forgetful customer in this one is Larry Dann, veteran of several Carry On films, a sergeant in the early years of The Bill, and listed amongst the "Notable former pupils" of the Corona Stage School on Wikipedia (a page which still doesn't even mention the Pink Windmill Kids, either individually or collectively). I have to confess that for a brief moment I though it was The Anorak from CBBC. Actually, though, the character of Mr Dwayne was so successful that he would return in later years, but I'm not sure about the whole cream cake thing. It's funny enough in execution, but why did they do it? I think I'm missing something, because it comes across as rather ill-natured. Either way, good episode, the Cousin Scampi side plot got a laugh out of me for its pure daftness, and nice use of simple special effects on the magic wand bit. Sooty is never not fun.

I remembered watching the Sooty and Co on ITV back in the 90's when I was very young. I really do enjoying watching the show and I do wished the whole series is finally released onto complete DVD collection at last.
Matthew & Scampi are greeted by a man into their shop with no memories of who he was, plus he even finds the glued teaspoons are 'wonderful' to him as well - much to their confusion...

Ah, Executive Producer - Danielle Lux. A little trivia, she was actually the original main female host of The Big Breakfast when it filmed a pilot episode. She was replaced with Emma Forbes, who recorded the second pilot and pulled out of the show only a few weeks before it aired. Danielle Lux then went on to be Head Of Entertainment at Channel 4.
That's extraordinary - I had no idea!
Whenever I see Danielle Lux's name on the credits I always think of Danielle Dax, the 80s New Wave musician...
While Matthew scolds Scampi about the teaspoons being glued together; Sooty & Soo from upstairs are trying to stop Sweep from holding Sooty's jackhammer, in which it is unstoppable! 🤣🤣🤣
While cleaning up the rubbish; Matthew discovers an old cassette tape-recorder with a man's voice, who gives an instruction about an undiscovering treasure - much to the shop-owner's amusement!

Wow. For me as someone who grew up part of their life in Eastern Europe and then the majority of my life in the United States these British shows and cartoons are so strange and alien. They seem to be mostly pretty good, but I don’t think I ever saw them play on Soviet TV in the 80s or on American TV in the 90s and up.
Believe it or not, Sooty has been running for over 60 years here in the UK, and is still going strong! I'm sure there are other countries where the show is popular, but for some reason I don't think it ever broke the US.
Still trying to find a way to get the amnesiac man's memories back; Matthew accidentally hits him with a frying pan, plus restoring the man's memories back - much the shop owner & the puppets' surprise & overjoy! It is revealed that the former is actually a councilor, and his real name is Mr. Dwayne (in which rhymes with the words, 'drain pipe')! 👏👏👏
Matthew gives Sooty & Scampi the instruction paper of the missing treasure's whereabout location, after listening to the voice from the tape-recorder...

Manchester Piccadilly station looks very different.
It was indeed a very different place back then before the early-00s makeover. The entire Piccadilly area was completely transformed following that renovation.
It was from this episode that I learned that the Prime Minister lives at 10 Downing Street.

This episode was repeated again on Wednesday 7th May 1997.
Meanwhile at Matthew's shop; he shows Sweep about the man's voice in the cassette tape-recorder, telling them about the unsearched treasure that haven't being found yet. That is, until the man with no memories had came into their affair as he seemly remembers about those words before...
