When I played this game 45 years back we use to joke about the dumb forwards. Well with all these laws these days there is no way you can put a dumb player on the field. I watch the games but I sometimes feel I am watching some or other game I don't know. Perhaps there are more who feel like me and that is the reason why the spectator numbers are falling...
I keep seeing comments about how all these cards are killing the game and NFL is better. They're not and it's not. The players know the rules, the coaching staff know the rules, the cards are clearly offenses, and the number of sloppy offences are the real issue. The variable isn't the reffing team, it's the players. NFL will never have a massive prop side-step a scrum-half like he's a figure skater before dropping a delicate no-look pass like his clumsy bear claws are Ronaldinho's feet. Wingers like prime Nadolo make Union the sport of incredible mis-matches. I'm based in the NH and I think Super Rugby is brilliant currently. The commentators are great, the matches are well contested, and at some point over the weekend, the Drua will have the ball in their own 22 in broken-field play. There's 5 top teams in SR, there's 1 in the English Premiership and 1 in the URC. It's exciting, it's chaos, enjoy it.
I’m all for handing out cards like nic berry , I mean is that what needs to happen more often to teach the players to get in line and follow the rules? Part of being a good player tactically these days is knowing when to cynically give away a penalty if it means avoiding the other team scoring a try etc it’s a risk vs reward scenario If the players got cards more often I bet it would stop the cynical infringements or at least reduce them.
On a side note about the northern hemisphere rugby, you can’t be unhappy with the way the Heineken cups been going ??? The semi final teams are playing some seriously entertaining rugby and I can’t wait to see the last few match ups go down for that

Both the cups have been great and enjoying the SA teams involvement so far, with less Prem teams in England it's a lot more open than I really made it out to be. The rise of Scotland has been amazing to watch and I'm not Scottish, just happy when Finn goes super saiyan to shut up his detractors.
NZ for too long has gotten away with giving penalties away on their own defencive line forcing the oposition to take the three points rather than a try now they cring that referres arent having it. An infringement that stops a try always deserves a yello card
Perhaps the ugliest game of rugby that I have seen in years. No one wants to see the game played like this. The rules around mauling need to change. It's such a shit way to score points. The back line of a maul should not be able to wheel around or change direction. It should be simple and direct line forward and the ball should have to come at as soon as there is a loss of momentum.
Nothing wrong with a maul. The problem is that teams don’t know how to defend it. Standing upright on the wrong side, tugging jerseys, and looking affronted is not enough. Collapsing the maul gets you a yellow card. Not sure why pretend fans blame the referee for repeated infringements. If a player is too stupid to listen to the ref yelling at him, that’s not the ref’s fault.
i just cant see any direction in the game. poor structure. Nothing wrong with players work rate but they got to do basic things right. They play like a team not knowing where their strenghts are. Two power players in the midfield wont create much for the outside backs.
It's poor off season recruitment that really hurts the force. They don't have a single world class player, they barely even have a wallaby in the squad. Robertson is the best guy on the team and he's mediocre as an international prop.
