We have the 8.3 Cummins in buses over here in the UK. I love them as a driver as they seem to be free revving and give good power. Belting engines
We build them in Darlington
Brilliant as always. Nice to see the mature age apprentice helping you out.
He pulls his weight once in a while 😜
@@JAMSIONLINE Isn't that Jim?

🎵 *_"Guide Bores, Guide Bores, Watchu Gonna Do, Watchu Gonna Do If We Replace All You"_* 🎵 . . stellar work, gentlemen.
Those ISC 8.3s were popular in Busses and RVs also. Great engines.
Your helper seems to be coming along nicely he’s sure to get a promotion soon! 😂
I wish the machine shop I worked at was like this. My boss is still stuck in the 80s. I wish I could work and learn from you guys. Very knowledgeable and thorough.
You guys probably don't have a pneumatic valve spring compressor then.?
Been waiting for this one. Love the diesel videos.
Will try to make some more diesel content! I felt a bit rushed on this one, so I feel like it could've been better!
Thanks for watching!
@@JAMSIONLINE Much appreciated, I watch all the videos love what you do.
@@JAMSIONLINE seemed fine tome. I also prefer the industrial engines.
Great job as usual, love the detail in every step. Keep up the great content!
Thank you for watching!
Love watching a great machinist work thier magic! Great work! 👍
Thank you!
I work on lots of 8.3s but the natural gas version, heads are quite a bit different that's forsure!
Great video as usual. This is therapy I really enjoy.
Good camera work, narration, lighting, description. Audio quality excellent. Length is about right. Nice work
😁 thank you! Always aiming to improve, so it’s good to hear that lol
Very nice and detail step and step work . plus making sure everything is in specs . Great channel!!!!
The final product looks beautiful!
Made in Cummins factory here in São Paulo Brazil! 🎉
I was in the business and you guys are incredible. The attention to detail.
Awesome video guys your attention to detail is always great to see i have become completely addicted to your channel it's never old watching real craftsman at work 👍
As always take care stay safe and may God bless you always 🙋♂️🇬🇧🇺🇸
Thank you for this wonderful video and for explaining the high skill in performing your work. I hope you will do a special episode on the CNC machine that you told us about. Thank you again. I hope that your shop is close to us so that I can send my engines to you
That pneumatic valve spring compressor looks like a life changer!!
From trash to cash. Nice work.
Always enjoy the well presented and interesting content. Thank you for sharing!
I appreciate the Therapy for today brother!! It was much Needed.. 👍💪👏🙌🙏💯🏁🏆
Glad you enjoyed!
Great attention to detail again. Well done 👍🏻
Fantastic work
Very enjoyable to watch! Nice work
Awesome and informative. Keep up the amazing work.
Thank you!
This is very cool and very instructive👍👍👍
Guys, you are great. every video is very interesting😊
Great video. I have this same engine in my school bus conversion. 215k miles and still seems to be in good shape. Hope I don't have to do a rebuild any time soon. Or ever, optimally.
Enjoyed, thank you for the video. I know it’s a huge task making, editing these videos.
Thanks for watching! Lots of work but it’s rewarding and I usually enjoy it!
I've saw a lot of Cummins engines in tree equiptment as well like mini skid loaders
Quality as always
I have the exact same valve spring compressor from blue point CF700-B it makes head work so much easier.
You know I've been using that trick for years with a mig. On races or gosh just about anything steel and that's stubborn. Just run a bead around the whole thing and let it cool. Love to see the tig torch busted out for this. Because I have a tig at home but do not have a mig. Can't believe I never seen or thought of it before. Skills man !👍
Nice to see you letting tear down guy do some cleaning on the block 😃Great vid!
Excellent workmanship and presentation as always. Camera work, narration and content is great. I stumbled across your channel with the shorts videos and glad I subscribed.
Beautiful work
From Baghdad...Iraq good job and perfct finishing...regards
Great Video
Those Cummins motors you can't beat em a lot guy love them I love the dodge trucks
Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for watching as always! 🫠
Great work!
Amazing work I wish I was a young man. And could be an apprentice at your shop.
Great video 👍🏻🇦🇺
I also use the Tig welder for odd jobs like that, removing broken or stuck bolts etc
Nice head work
Love this channel! Diversity in every video
New to the channel this is awesome thank you 👍
Oh snap this should be informative and clever at the same time. What are these worth? We bought an old Penske truck with a bad a bad transmission for storage and it has a Cummins 8.3 that sounds great.
I honestly don’t know what they’re worth, but I know it takes a healthy chunk of change to rebuild them 🤑🤫😝
@@JAMSIONLINE time is money!
Badass!
You guys should consider using a plunger style valve keeper installer/remover tool - may be faster than using your pneumatic unit - especially on a head where all the valve faces are 'level' with the head surface.
No shortcuts! Good work!
Well done
Thanks!
Surprised freeze plugs not replaced. Guess there not a big problem now as in my days.
I sure hope somebody I can can call your company for work..just like your work..hope your well stay safe..
Pretty! 👍👍👍
I think it's interesting that this head is from Brazil and Ford made their inline 6 diesel engine there. Is there any connection with the old Ford plant and Cummins?
They both build garbage. They have that in common.
I would love to learn this type of work
Very good!!! I noticed the freeze plugs were left in... I'm thinking they are stainless steel? I always replace standard carbon steel freeze plugs when work like this is being done, with brass plugs, on the head and the block... Excellent video fellas!!!!
Smoove.
😁
thats how they get the seats out wow
Nice job
Thank you!
@@JAMSIONLINE You're welcome
Great video, have you ever done any work on a volvo d13 motor or mack mp8 motor?
How do you prevent the freshly refinished surfaces from rusting after going through the spray cabinet?
Do you need to lap the valves in after cutting the seats?
Did you check the head for cracks beyond visual inspection?
Looks like now as I know how to do it, I don't need to pay people that do this work. Thank you.
Hey Jim, why do you pull the valves out so far when checking the guides as the valve doesn't open up that much? And shouldn't you remove the valve stem seals to have a quick go to feel for the guides? I know you measure all the valves with bore gauge but why check it when stripping if you just going to use bore gauge?
Where can I buy this tool to calibrate the valve guide clearance?
Crak test on cylinder head
Have you ever done 1UZ heads? Almost as many valves as this big boy lol
What is a the cost to have this head rebuilt?
What does a service like this cost?
you don't lap after machining?
How much to do this for a 1995 N14 Cummins
Do you guys work on honda engines??
don’t you normally cut the valve seats before you surface the head?
Not on diesel. Can’t hit the top side of protrusion spec if you don’t know how much is coming off of the surface.
what do your turn around time usually look like?
Too long.
for lower fuel use a 7.5L Mercedes or Scania engine would have the same HP and torque
I can't speak for the scania but the Mercedes isn't lasting nearly as long as the Cummins. At least that's my experience.
notification squad!🔥🔥🔥
🔥
Awesome job! Is it true 8.3 are known to be problematic?
Well, it is a dodge😂
@@sethh8892 It's a Cummins engine not a Dodge engine, genius.
@@svtirefire oh and guess what comes in a Dodge? 👀👀👀
@@sethh8892 which dodge model has an 8.3 Cummins?
No they are pretty stout. Just keep up on maintenance
Roughly speaking, what does this levels of service cost?
The font you used for the text in the thumbnail made me confused as to what a 8.3L Cumming is supposed to be
Guides A bit worn past specs, i guess you could call it substantial wear as those live pilots heavily rely on a new guide to properly cut
who else read this as you found this head in the trash!
Lol unintentional clickbait, I’ll take it 😝
I love machining and Metal work. But I'm still always astounded that fossile fuels even made it after electric motors where invented. The work, wear and inefficiency on these engines is so high, they could only work out with a suptential amount of corruption and lobbying. Great Video though, you guys really know your stuff. 👍
