    In first corona year I did such kinda head for a friend . I installed 1.5 mm oversize super alloy on exhaust as old was worn, 1.5 mm oversize stainless on intake. Both bronze guides and ported both intake and exhaust port . Then planed to raise compression at least 1 point.... Now the engine runs very well and startermotor only gets it going when throttle closed as otherwise dynamic compression is too high...
    Charged only couple of bux as the fun seeing him doing the lawn with much better track times and fuel efficiency is worth it. 😁

    • @jameslmorehead
      @jameslmorehead Před rokem

      Install a compression release on the intake valve for them. That takes the strain off the starter, or your arm, when starting a higher compression mower. I had a tricked out walk behind mower when I was mowing lawns as a teenager. I did so much work to that motor it would make your head spin. My neighbor saw me pull starting it one day, lifting the whole mower off the ground if I didn't get the pull timed just right. He offered to help install the pressure release and boy oh boy did it make a difference.

I usually knock out, spin a groove on guides just below depth of guide on top, install to correct depth, then stake aluminum into groove. Anyways we change em both.
    And since it's a field job, I don't have a machine shop in my back pocket.
    I'll say I've never had one I've replaced blow again.
    I always chamfer all the bolt holes with a big drill bit, or any sharp edge with a file.
    They don't chamfer bolt holes !!
    Check for flat , and check your cooking fins for debris cause that's one of the main causes.
    Anyways,on the vannys it's like 220 inch pounds for torque,and Briggs says unlubricated bolts.
    To heck with all that.
    Chamfer and remove sharp edges, lubricate head bolts and torque to 20 foot pounds in 4 stages.
    Keep rodents and debris out of the fins in the future and rock on.

    I once stripped a lawnmower down and used purple gasket maker to reseal it and it work perfectly for 5 years after, the mower belonged to the property I was renting and I assume it’s still good now
