Thank you!! I know this video was 9 years ago. But I finally decided to use this brand new machine Ive had for years and your video has helped me feel more confident in doing so. Thank you, Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Thank you so much. I bought my new machine today at an unbelievable price from Singer with a 15 year extended warranty , free next day delivery and a free gift! I had spent a long time trying to choose a machine. About 80 hours, all in all! It was your post, this one, that made me decide in the end. So thank you for all the info and trouble shooting tips. I can't wait until tomorrow, I've got butterflies I am so excited! Please keep as many vids about this machine coming. I'm going to need all the help I can get.

I can't thank you enough for your very informative video because now I can use my machine with confidence, I am ashamed to tell you that I have this modal machine for quite some time but I have not even opened it this was gift from my husband ,he will be so happy to see that I am finally going to use the machine. Thank you so so very much. Hope to see more videos of your tips to help us .👍👍🙏🙏
Glad I could help!
I’m in the same boat! Did you get this program to work on Windows 10?
I'm aware this is an older video, I've had my machine (the SEQS6000) for at least 4 years, and I only yesterday started to set it up to embroider. I couldn't for the life of me figure out attaching the embroidery foot, thank you soooo much for the close-up and the explanation of everything. This was an extremely helpful video.
Great to hear!
Thank you for doing this video. You explained far more than the manuals did.
You're welcome!
Thanks so much on your informative video. I bought my wife this machine for Christmas and was able to figured the machine out in just a couple of hours. Embroidering is new to both of us. This video assisted us and made it work perfectly. Very happy with the machine so far. I did have to use the net around the spool of thread as it did make a difference maintaining the correct slack of the embroidering thread due to it's cone shaped configuration. The thread kept winding around the spool rod therefore tightening and causing a thread breakage. I read all of the comments below and appreciated your informative responses as well. Even the useless "hard to follow your accent " one..LOL - Thanks again
Becky, I have found that when it says the thread is broke, when it is still intact it is because I'd threaded the machine while the presser foot was down, not allowing the thread to engage properly into the tension control. The quickest/easiest way I found ot correct it is to just gently tug on the thread, by the spool, pulling it just slightly back out and you should feel/hear it almost 'click' into place.
Thank you so much for this! I have had my machine a few years now, and have just been using it for a sewing machine. i decided it was time to use the embroidery part of it. (I have the Futura xl 580) I found that I had no idea how to use this! So I went in search of how to use it, and couldn't find much on it. All they told you was how to use the software, how to put in the fabric in the hoop, etc. But I needed to see someone do something start to finish, what to push etc. Thank you so much, this was the video I needed!!! Hope to be embroidering soon!
Enjoy your machine. Jan.
Thank you so much for doing this. I bought this machine from eBay and could not make it work until I found you. Thank you ❤
You are welcome!
Thank you so much for your video. Having followed the instructions in the manual I still felt daunted by this machine. After watching your video it gave me the confidence to really give it a go. Now I'm knocking out designs and it's all thanks to you! 👍👍
Thanks Jemma for your kind comments. Jan.
We will be doing some more very soon as we come into the winter season. Jan
I can't thank you enough for your input for this machine, I have one also and was becoming frustrated and now I'm going back to it with an entirely different attitude thanks to your 2 year review. Keep them coming. Stacie from USA
Stacie Allen Thanks a lot Stacie. Jan.
I will try again with my Singer Futura and incorporate all of your suggestions. Love my machine for traditional sewing, but I have continued to be frustrated with the embroidery. Thought for a while of letting my husband use it as a rowboat anchor.
Thank you so much for your very informative demonstrations! I was having problems with my thread snapping while embroidering but while I watch your video I leaned even more handy tips that I did not know about! Thank you!
You are so welcome!
@@dereton33 I’m having a difficult time using my small hoop to just embroider on letter?? It says I need to use big hoop??
HI Becky, There is a little cap that you can put on top of the spool of thread, have you tried using it, and if you do check it isn't too tight a fit causing the spool of thread to 'snag', It could be the needle is not sharp enough or that it is the incorrect size for the fabric you are using. Of course the stabilizer may not be tight enough in the hoop. Good luck and hope this helps, Jan
Wow the difference from you video from 2013. You have learned so much. This is an excellent video. I pull very little on the fabric. I want it relaxed. In fact I hoop ver little most use a tacky stabilizer. You are so right to stitch at the slower speed. Never go above half speed. I have 3 machines from different companies. I love how the Singer stitches out. The same design on anther machine looks different. Not everything but lots.
Thank you! I almost purchased one4 of these. You saved me from spending the money.
Thats good.
Thank you so much for this video. I recently bought this machine off amazon and I thought I was doing everything right when it started nesting and messing up I took it to my local singer repair shop and they said nothing was wrong wouldnt show me how to use it. I got home same thing happened and then I searched for help and I found your video. It helped so much thank you
sarah schultz Np problem Sarah, pleased to have helped. Jan.
Thank you. I just purchased my Singer Futura and your video has helped me so much as compared to others.
Looking forward to more.
p.s. Love your accent :)
+K Lynch Thanks a lot. The accent is a bit east enders. Sorry about that. Jan.
Thank you so much for this post, I tried your tips step by step and it worked! I was doing it all wrong and your post really helped! steps were clear and easy to follow, I'm so happy, cheers!!
No problem Sandra.
Thank you so much. Very frustrated, intimidated by my Singer XL400 and need hands on visualization. Wonderful tutorial. Thank you very much!
Hi, i've just bought this machine and the foot that comes with it now lifts up to allow the hoop to slide easily underneath. You may be able to get one from ebay to make life easier for you. Love the video i found it very helpful, thank you for sharing it with us.
Elaine Gambles Thanks Jan.
Was ready to send my machine back. Your tips are on point with my issues...very easy to follow. Thank you. Good job!
Hi Danita, many thanks for your comments. It can be so frustrating, and I'm pleased that I could help in some way. Happy new year to you. Good luck!! Jan
Thanks so much for your video. You are very easy to follow and explain well and show well each step. Now, I feel confident I can use my machine to create beautiful things. All the best to you
Thank you Phillis.
I noticed you traced the pattern then the start button changed from red to green. I hope that gets me going on this machine. Thanks for sharing this tip.
You are correct
I’m thinking of buying this machine. I love your introduction. I’m nervous and excited. If I buy it, I’ll let you know how I do.
That`s great keep in touch.
I have had my machine for three years now, and have made many, many projects; however, my machine is now sending me an error message when I start it to begin embroidering or doing an applique. The machine stops after making the anchor stitch, and gives me the following error message: "The machine is locked up due to thread entangled with bobbin case or rotation interrupted forcibly. Turn off power switch and eliminate the problem that caused the machine to stop. Please try to correct the problem to continue." Additionally, there is a picture of the Handle Wheel with a large "X" over the Handle Wheel. I have done everything in my power to figure out what I'm doing wrong. I know that it isn't the machine, because I borrowed my mom's machine (she has the exact same one), and I get the same error message with hers. I'm so frustrated, because it's not like I'm a novice with using this machine....or even sewing in general. I have several projects that I need to get completed, but am not able to do so, because of this issue. PLEASE! I REALLY, REALLY NEED SOMEONE'S HELP WITH THIS, AND i CAN'T GET IN CONTACT WITH ANYONE FROM SINGER TO HELP ME. I AM BEYOND FRUSTRATED!!! :( By-the-way, I really enjoyed your video. It was very informative, and I even redid everything with the machine that you demonstrated, hoping that maybe it was something very simple that I had just inadvertently missed, but NOTHING worked.....HELP!
Thank you for this video. I just found it and you have given me courage to try again to use my machine. It has been sitting for 3 years.
Thank you!! This video is soo helpful. Very nicely made and well spoken video too.
I too have trouble with this machine so thankful you did this video
No problem.
I always use cutaway. If dense design float a extra piece of stabiliser under hoop.
Tearaway for in tge hoop projects. Solvy for towels
Thanks for sharing!
You've had your machine for a while and it seems to work well. I am trying to make a decision about buying an embroidery machine and have read such awful reviews about this. Your video has made me want to take another look at the Singer.
I am so confused. I purchased a different brand with so many great reviews. The first one wouldn't turn on and the second one broke a needle on the first project and the hole where the needle goes was damaged so it too departed. Now I am once again researching.
Great review, thank you.
+Flying Lady 76 HI there, I think I have managed to overcome many of the problems with this machine, but it is very temperamental. Maybe it is the nature of embroidering that means the needles break, the thread breaks the stabalizer is wrong, the tension is not tight enough and so on. If you want an embroidery machine then maybe see if you can go to an outlet and try some it would give you a better idea if they are any good. I do not think that I would buy this one again, but I think I do not get enough out of embroidering to make me persevere. Get in touch if you fancy buying mine! Good luck!! Jan
I'm in Florida, shipping...:) would cost more than the machine. I am still looking. Thanks so much for the reply.
I have another question about your XL400, why did you change the upper tension to above the E? I now have one of these beasts and it worked great for 1 week, now I'm having problems with it embroidering. Sews perfectly, embroidery??? It is apparently on a vacation. Anything you can share? I would really appreciate it. TIA
Just brought this machine haven't a clue when using the threads not anchoring to the material
I have had my machine for about a year and a half now and love watching your video and helpful hints. One thing I am having trouble with is my thread keeps getting caught between the spool and the cap or it gets caught on the edge of the spool itself. I have had to place my hand under the thread while embroidering to keep it flowing smoothly. Any thoughts?
Todos están muy contentas con la máquina, yo solo puedo utilizarla como máquina de coser, por falta del disco de instalación., Con estos tutoriales ya podemos empezar. , Increíble las cosas que podemos hacer, alguien me puede ayudar
Sorry we sold our machine over 6 years ago.
thanks for doing this video. will think about singer in different light now.
could you possibly do a monogram video. Mine is always telling me that the size is too large for the hoop. Frustrated- got the large hoop on, smallest stitch, etc. Please please please do a video with a detailed instructions on monogram :/. Love your videos and you are the only one that seems to know what is going on-
Thanks, Renee
Ren H Hi Renee, Yes it is frustrating! I'm always getting that error and that has led me not to attempt a monogram again!! However I will give it a go once more and we can see how I get on. !!! Fingers crossed!!!! Thank you for your lovely comments, Jan
@@dereton33 You can set the hoop size as you create/edit the monogram, and the error doesnt clear automatically. If you remove the hoop, the message will be there on your PC until you close it.
Thank you for this video. I recently purchased the machine and had all the same problems you did, your video was a great help! Jan, Tucson AZ
No problem Jan.
Help! I’m having a hard time embroidering my letters. I only want to embroider 1 letter. No matter what size or font I use it says I must use big hoop? I’ve watched your demo on the bibs you embroidered and you were able to use small hoop. What am I doing wrong?
I have a few questions:
So, the bobbin thread does not have to be the same color as the embroidery thread that will show on the top, is this correct?
Is white typically the go to thread for the bobbin?
Does it tend to be personal preference or is white used to blend in better with the color of the bib or possibly the color of the stabilizer?
Thanks so much for this tutorial/review!
Hi Debora, The bobbin thread does not have to be the same colour as the top thread, you are correct. White is cheaper to buy and it does not show. You could use other colour bobbin thread but it is not as easy to buy different colours and it does keep costs down to use white. Thanks for watching! jan
Hello I want my software to a problem that I can not transmit the image to the sewing machine what to do
Try rebooting the software.
Hi thanks for this video with your easy to follow instructions, I am going to look at embroidery machines this week and after searching on the web I think this is the one which will suit my needs. I want to make cushions and personalise small items but If I wanted to embroider school fleeces with their logos would I need to buy a special program? I have decided that I should purchase off my nearest Singer Stockist, as I would like good after sales support including servicing and repair
Excellent tutorial!!! Thank you. Hope to see more.
Thanks, will do!
I have the same machine, wondering how to embroidrery vertical with the large hoop. Have only been able to embroidery hortizonal. Can you help me?
The machine is long gone now so sorry I cant help you.
You need to follow Christopher Newman. He has done brilliant research into this embroidery machine. X

I have been having my machine for years, but I’m just starting to use it again. When I turn it on all the lights start blinking, do anyone know what causes this?
Sorry no.
i want say thank you, its been a great help to me
Most welcome!
I'm having trouble with my tension. The dial moves but when I see the tension is still tight! I tried pretty much everything. I also called so her and they've been no help at all!!
Marvelous! Thank you.
Great video! Im planning on buying an embroidery machine soon, and I loved seeing your video and how you explained everything so good! im suscribed!
Thanks Elsa. Jan.
Hi , can any one help I don't seem to be able to use my small frame hoop every time I put it on it says the embroidery is to big but it's not , I don't know what I'm doing wrong .Is there anywhere I could get some lessons or help
First rule of thumb when changing parts. Please turn the machine off. Ive seen far to many occassions where people got the needle through their thumb.
Agreed! I will completely unplug mine, can't be too safe!
Have had my XL-400 almost a year, and I might say I'm a little intimidated! Sewing fine. A concern with embroidery. Only when it moves in a certain direction thread becomes tight and needle will hit the foot and(sometimes) break. Is it just the tension? Also, can an open toe foot made for embroidery machines work on this model? I would like to stop snipping every time the hoop moves!
Omg you saved my sanity. I've got christmas gifts to finish off and I was having trouble getting the embroidery part of things started
My auto punch and hyper font are from reason not showing. I tried to redownload from the disc that came with my machine but it won’t let me. Please help
Sold my machine a long while back. It was constant trouble.
Thanks for your tips! I got mine and thought I was all set go only to find that each time it starts I get an error message that says the top thread has broken but it hasn't. It has only jammed. Any tips? I have the tension set to past the E like you recommend. Thank you
why i can´t create lettering for small hoop and send to machine?
Thank you so much, this was very helpful... Also can you do something on vinyl like a bag or a jacket. I would love to do a bag with a design on vinyl. Thank you...
Vivie Prescotty Will see what i can do. Jan.
Could you please list thread and needles you use
Thread is Robinson Anton. needles are Singer size 12.
How do I change the orientation of the design in the hoop from portrait to landscape??

Is it just embroidered machine or cloth stitching machine
Both
Someone please help me. Jim trying to do a basic stitch with mine and I'm not having any luck

Best to return it to Singer for repair.
Oh so the machine is broken?
Yes.
Hi I have a SINGER FUTURA XL 400 and I do not have the drivers to embroider. Can you help me please
You have to get them from Singer.
Just bought our daughter the XL400 for Christmas but she is having some issues with thread nesting under the material when embroidering. Any ideas why this is happening as she is having to remove the hoop each time she changes the thread colour. Hopefully you can help. Many thanks, Sue
Hi Sue, Try putting the dial just off of E, this may help. Also you need to have embroidery bobbin thread and embroidery thread to sew with. Good luck, and thanks for watching our video. jan
Hi Jan, thanks for replying. We had watched your video before we started and used bobbinfil and stabiliser. We used a high quality thread but we are still having major issues. Sometimes the top thread becomes so tight the machine thinks the thread has snapped and stops. When we change colour 80% of the time as soon as the machine starts to sew the next block it will just start to nest under the material and sometimes gets stuck in the machine where the bobbin is - I think we may just send the machine back! Thanks Sue
hiya, do you ever have issues on the singer with the bobbin thread showing through on embroidery? my bigest issue at the mo, and appears to be random! i have changed the tension too.
Aaron Bannister Hi Aaron, No I can't say that I have, however my first thought was to adjust the tension and you have done that so maybe the stabiliser is incorrect? Maybe causing the needle to stick? You could try another thickness. Does it happen on specific fabrics say like satin then it could be slipping a little. Also have you got the correct needle size in or is the needle a little blunt? The biggest improvement I found with using this machine was making sure the fabric and stabiliser are very tight in the hoop as you have probably already seen in the video. The fabric needs to be very tight in the hoop but not too tight that it stretches the fabric or design!! Good luck Jan
What size needle do you use for diff fabrics? My needles continuously break.
Terri Huddleston hi Terri, you need an 11 for chiffon etc 14 for flannel, muslin, linen, corduroy etc, 16 for denim, stretchy fabrics, 11 for knits. You may like to take a look at the tension as the needles shouldn't keep breaking, more they would 'snag' the fabric. Good luck. jan
I see that you are in the UK. Everything I've read on this machine says that it uses 110v and cannot be used with a voltage converter. Is your machine operating on a converter or is it a 240v version?
It is a 240 volt version.
OLA HOW ARE YOU?THIS MATCHINE CAN DOING ANY KINDY OF TIPE LOGOU?
No afraid not.
Is it easy to appliqué with this machine
Never tried it.
I’m unable to get the tension on the sewing machine corrected
Sold that machine a year ago, nor could I.
Lots of useful tips! Thanks.
hi! I just started to embroider. I'm having a hard time with nesting. I have the machine set up correctly and switched to a top stitch needle and embroidery bobbin thread. I'm using tear away stabilizer. tension is at e. help?
Had the same thing. Had to make sure I bought top quality thread to stop it happing.
can i import custom designs for this machine, if not then what singer to buy which will allow custom designs? thanks
No you can not, the Brother is the only one I know of that can do it.
A very good video thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
A search cd installation software embroidery..... Somebody can help me?
Sorry machine long gone.
Hiya could you please tell me how to get designs, I only have basic ones, do I need to buy other software for our machine
Yes you need other software.
Amazon has a couple of software add-on's that you can purchase.
hi
thanks i have watched your video lots if times you helped me such a lot
Do you know how to fix hidden stitches? I am stuck.
Sorry no.
Appreciate your well made tutorial. What embroidery threads do you recommend for the singer xl400 as not sure what to buy. Universal threads will do? Thank you.
Let me check
I don’t know if you have one but I use simthread with my xl 400
Seems simple enough, might get one of these to start my little outdoor supplies business to embroider patches and shirts. Do you think it could get through the thick material of a patch? Like an iron on patch? Thanks love your video!
Yes it goes through anything.
fab video. im thinking about treating myself to one of these machines, i have a question...can you for example get a picture of the internet and save it to your pc, then use it with the machine or do you have to buy special software for designs
You have to buy special software unfortunately.
help,,my machine is embroidering with bobin colour
Sorry I have never had that happen so do not know how to fix it.
Thank you for your video. learnt more from this. Is this 4 in 1 machine? Can you teach another 2 ways. quilting like that.
Does it have to be a window 7 computer like it says on box?
10 should still be ok.
Thanks for your advice! I started embroidering today and could really use your help! I broke 3 needles today any advice? Do I need to use different needles for embroidery vs sewing?
Hi Erika, no not usually, however you still need to consider the material that you are using and the stabiliser, ie, the thickness, how springy the material is, the weave etc., and adjust the needle size accordingly just as you would when you sew normally on the machine. Also I try and ensure that the work is really pulled tight in the hoop as this makes it less springy. Maybe worth trying a very find needle say a 60 or 70, to see if this makes any difference. I can feel your frustration, so good luck!! Thanks for watching. Jan
Where is the beginning of XL400 from the beginning by the singer company? I am disappointed in this
Never mind I cant please everybody.
Very helpful. Thank you!
Great video, I'm considering purchasing this machine. Would you happen to know if it handle leather (1mm) ? Thanks
+SidHimSelf Never tried but with right needles should be ok.Do check with the manual.
Hi there my Mrs wants one of these & she has her own designs in mind so is it possible to do this or is that going to be an expensive software
The software can be expensive.
dereton33, Great machine. Are the picture designs all pre-programmed, or is there a way to embroider a picture of your choice, for example could it embroider a picture from the internet and if so, how would I do this please? Thanks for the demo.
It can only do set designs on the cd.
