DCS Rediscovering the Mi-8 | CSAR on Rotorheads

- Been a while since I've flown with any intent in the Mi-8. This follows up from my Sheriff vid, having had to eject after I played around too much with emergency conditions.
ps. Chuck's guide is pretty clear on ADF usage, just that pilot needed something beyond the 17.00 frequency range, exceeding the YaDRO-1A, and in the time cruising there I didn't figure out how to do it on the other radios.
pps. the 3-lives limit for Rotorheads for non-Hip/Huey airframes are reset every 24 hours - getting saved by CSAR just accelerates that.
ppps. I'm aware I was using max collective at times, not planning to land into the wind, not checking rpm gauges/dust protection etc. Once I re-acclimate to the cockpit I should be using / familiar with more of that.

Probably my favorite utility helicopter so far in DCS. I laughed out loud when you said "clearly I'm treating this helicopter like a wounded animal"... it's a very accurate way of putting it when you're in the early stages of flying the Mi-8... constantly fearing the deadly VRS. Good flight!
Thanks. Huh. Thought I was referring to the downed pilot as wounded animal...but using that for the helo also really works! ps. I think that Hind might have been you - looked like you were in a hover (which didn't make much sense to me), but then it vanished when I looked again, so mighta been lag spike. IIRC you were the only Mi-24 in that area, or at least working with the FAC at that time.
In the curve area, I adjusted my settings. I don't have VRS very much as I do a stall when coming to a hover to land. Once you get the hang of it, you can off set that by way of easing in for the land.. Very seldom have it anymore unless i get in a hurry.
You forgot to disable parking brake. NEVER take off or land with parking brake in Mi-8, you almost flipped yourself when you were landing to pick up the downed pilot.
Very true. And I'm a serial offender on that one for multiple modules too. Probably a contributors to some of my Hind roly-polys.
Try landing into the trailing smoke - wind direction. See you up there :)
Oh yeah. That would've been the smart thing to do. Good point.
Would you mine making a "How to Rotorheads"? I've been on the server a few times but always felt very lost and without an idea of what I should do. Particularly with the KA 50.
Thanks
That's definitely in the works. Not sure it'll be posted specifically on my channel or the RH main one, but either way I'll be giving a heads-up to it once it's up.
@@volkvoort Thanks. Looking forward to that.
