  • Installing upper control arms: so easy, my wife can do it! Check out this entertaining video of my wife, who's never touched a tool in her life, install these Accutune upper control arms on our third gen Tacoma. These high quality UCAs boast a hardy tubular design and have a similar ball joint style build to the factory upper control arms. The installation itself only takes 45 minutes to an hour per side for someone with basic experience and the right hand tools.
    You can buy the upper control arms here:

    Suppose to put truck down on its own weight before torquing the UCA in place. And whoever commented about bending the pinch weld has never worked on a Tacoma for last 15 years…. You have to, the pinch weld is perfectly aligned with the bolt. Dumb yes but that’s what you got to work with. Good video overall

    I just installed a Toytec/Bilstein lift on my 2nd gen, pulling that long bolt connecting UCAs to frame was a royal pain!

    They literally made the UCA bolt so you cant remove it. I bent the shit out of that inner fender and still the bolt wouldn't slide through. To bad you didn't show what you did in the DRIVER SIDE engine bay to remove the UCA BOLT. The drivers side is the hardest with also the battery and wiring harness in the way. Not easy at all

      I’m gonna replace mine soon. I’m just gonna buy new bolts and hardware from Toyota and cut them with an angle grinder. I’ve watched about 30 videos now on UCA replacement and it sucks to get that driver’s side bolt out.

    This bending body work thing makes my stomach crawl. Does anyone know what the official Toyota factory service manual says the procedure is for removing this bolt? I'd sooner cut the damned thing in half and replace it from the opposite side or something. I refuse to believe Toyota service manual says, "get pliers and reef on metalwork until bolt clears..." that doesn't feel very...Japanese. PS - Good on you getting the wife in on the work, awesome.

      @Razorbackfever Před 10 měsíci +1

      Unfortunately there’s only two ways since Toyota put the uca on before the body is dropped. You can either slightly bend the pinch weld which a lot of people do. Or you have to cut the bolt then replace the new bolt in backwards. Either way works however uca bolts aren’t cheap. So most people just bend the pinch weld.

      Yep. We include the part number to the bolt in our installation guide as well in case you do want to go the cutting route.@@Razorbackfever

      Doesn't seem too brutal to bend it some

    • @JamesReedy
      @JamesReedy Před 12 dny

      @@Razorbackfeveryeah had someone look at the service manual, the official Toyota position is to cut the bolt off so that’s how I’m gonna go about it.
      That said imma hold off until I can get it into the dealer, 14 months old, 12,000 miles and has developed a brutal squeak that only happens when rocking the car left/right while stationary or while driving slow, doesn’t happen on speed bumps or braking/take off. Makes me think ARB or body mount.

  • @t3rat0s19

    Why did you bend the frame. Just get the right tools for the job. No company would engineer a serviceable component where bending the frame is required for service. That’s just dangerous…

      @Bugout_Overland  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Research other videos and threads on how to remove a UCA bolt on a 3rd gen Tacoma. If you find something other than bending that portion of frame or cutting the bolt out all together, let me know!

    • @Pearsonc33
      @Pearsonc33 Před 10 měsíci +1

      You have to bend the inter fender there is no other way of getting that bolt out

    • @JamesReedy
      @JamesReedy Před 10 měsíci

      @@Pearsonc33 funny I just posted about this above. I'm with the OP, bending the pinch weld is ridiculous. Not being critical and to each their own but it feels downright criminal to just be bending metal like that for a normal service item. Imagine you had to bend metal to change the oil or something, a bit hyperbolic but you get my point. Cutting it sounds better but you have to install reverse and the FUD's will chime in about some sort of bolt walking off down-hill scenario that sounds absolutely ridiculous if you ask me.

    • @heathermcfarland4644
      @heathermcfarland4644 Před 4 měsíci +1

      You have to bend it as the bolt is aligned with that pinch weld. Only other way is to back the bolt off an inch and cut it and pull out the opposite way and re install a new bolt in the opposite direction, that’s the only way to keep from bending that pinch Weld and this is also a Toyota approved method as it is in the tech service manuals for Toyota techs

    • @davidpayne6541

      Choice is yours. Buy two bolts for $80 cut the heads off of the existing bolts and slide them out toward the rear, or bend the flimsy Sheet Metal, which can be straightened if you desire using sheet metal flats in Lou of vice grips, making it almost not noticeable. For others I furnished bolts and charge accordingly. For mine, moved the sheet metal.
