  • Chubb Definitive Jewelry box (Steel Comb Leaf Spring) lock picked, 6 levers with a few anti pick notches/false gates with a matched anti pick notch cutout in bolt stump, and the super cool Detector lever and latch.
With the proper tensioner, a simple 1.6mm L shaped wire trimmed a hair to fit keyway height and a bit off the width shoved to back of lock and land in bolt talon + a nicely shaped steep hook profile such as that by Jimmy Long, this lock opens up with wonderful feedback.
This lock may very well be over 100 years old possibly made in 1860-1870.
A beautiful and very fun lock to pick.

Really well picked and displayed. I've not seen a chubb before, been up to my eyeballs Assas for so long 😛

This was my 1st Chubb lock too! Really got me interested in the old detector mechanism. Once I finish picking another format of the Chubb definitive mortise (steel comb leaf spring) detector, I’ll send your way. A bit harder being a pipe key w/ a post in the way and the springs are crazy stiff.
You will zip through the Jewelry box though. Cheers!

Having a blast with these lever locks. Thanks for sending buddy. The detector lever and latch was a very interesting design and I’m sure it was revolutionary at the time.

Is Jimmy Long picks usually sold out and hard to get? All of his things are sold out on his website

Jimmy Longs is a 1 man operation. When he creates a batch of picks and posts them on his site, they typically sell out within the hour.
His lock picks are top quality. If you’d like to keep tabs on his next drop date, you can join the LPU Discord and ask folks there or @ him directly.

Four of the levers have been filed down to remove the false gates making picking easier by a considerable amount as well as opening the gates up to allow the bolt stump to pass through by at least four step heights of the key for each lever which means that it can be opened far easier. Think of it acting like multiple shear lines in a pin lock. more shear lines means easier to open. Practically all the security features have been removed. This is not how they left the factory. Chubb would never have let this past the doors especially a high quality lock like what you have here. You need to get this lock repaired by a professional to get it back to factory specifications.
Although you did pick the lock and it was opened, because it wasn't factory spec and it has been altered to significantly reduce it's security I couldn't agree that it was acceptable to claim it was a genuine pick being that to claim it was a genuine pick the lock needs to be completely unaltered as was from the factory.
I'm not saying that you made the alterations but someone did which made it possible for you to open it so easily. I have around 50 or more Chubb Detector Locks of nearly every version in my collection and none are as bad as this one internally. If I did have one I would get it repaired as soon as I got it. Looking at your levers really upsets me. Makes me want to take the person who did this outside to settle the matter.
I really hope you get it repaired and do another video. Thanks for uploading.

Hi there, this lock did have some visible signs of wear and tear. It was unaltered by me and previously picked by a few other pickers in its current condition. From my understanding, finding a pristine, mint condition, factory Chubb Definitive Jewelry Box Lock is unheard of and likely on display at a museum (as it should be), so the recorded locks picked you find on CZcams & in lock picking circulation have all been known to have their individual issues: Worn down, missing levers, etc. In this sense, most, if not all Chubb Definitive Jewelry locks you see picked on YT are likely in the same boat of no longer being in factory spec condition.
The lock I picked was many notches below its highly regarded status of super pick resistance, sadly.
If I had known of a professional Chubb Restoration shop prior to sending it on its way to the next picker, I’d certainly have restored it, picked it at maximum factory spec (or failed to have), and kept it for my collection. Please share the contact info for a restoration shop if you’ve got one in mind, it would be very much appreciated.
However, if you’ve got an unworn, to code, factory spec Chubb Definitive Jewelry Box Lock amongst your collection you’re willing to sell or loan out to a few challengers, there at least a hundred highly skilled lock pickers I can think of willing to give it a go. Let me know 👍
I appreciate your attention to detail and watching the video. If you’ve not heard of Lock Pickers United (an online lock picking community) on Reddit or Discord, definitely look them up. Lots of great likeminded folks there.
      Cheers
