LOL It's what I do.
Thanks for giving european comics some love. Next up is 2000 AD? ;-)
I would need to get some first. :)
These books are so pretty!
They are!
As a french reader i know a thing or two about Humanoids and you did an excellent job presenting their work. I love American comics as much as french comics and Mangas but IMO french comics have better art on average. The only thing i want to add is as you may know , British and American publishers have a tendency to censor mature content. It is a big problem not because Americans are prudes but because it's a lack of respect for the artists. But most importantly you guys are missing out on some fantastic comics. Some artists refuse to see their art altered and chose not to have their work translated. I don't know about you but i would be pissed if South Park was censored in Canada because some idiot deemed it too offensive for us.
I hate it when companies to do it to Manga. It really really bothers me.
It's classic business, it's all about money. Just look at Crossed. It's full of rape and brutal killing of children. It's not censored in USA because the publisher doesn't believe in it.
Honestly, the people you should be mad about is the original IP/title holder. They are the ones that go into a deal with a publisher who censores. If they cared about the work they would instead gone to a different publisher, but I bet the reason they don't is because they get more money from the one that does.
@@MrDLCZcams With all due respect i think you don't know what you're talking about. Clearly you are not very familiar with European comics. Censorship from American publishers is an issue pretty much every french artist is complaining about. You are totally right this censorship is a business decision but it's censorship nonetheless and shows a complete lack of respect for the work of the artist. There are many french artists who refused to compromise when American publishers asked them to remove or alter panels with nudity. As a result American readers cannot discover these gems. This is specific to American and to a lesser extent British publishers. These comics have been translated in many other languages.
Bunch of Prudes
@@MrDLCZcams I was just thinking about crossed, it's this weard mindset where americans themselves can make brutal stuff but importing it is somehow a heresy. I really don't get it. It might got to do with the mentality of if american does it then he is just expressing their freedom of speech so it should be fine but when it's brought from elsewhere the publisher doen't know how to answer the question of conserned mom types and whatnot of: "How could you publish this kinda cruelsome material and poison minds" because they cannot just say the blanket freedom of speech for every american stuff since it's from elsewhere.
Butch guice has done 2 titles for humanoids publishing Mandalay and metal Geoff John' Olympus
I need to check that out.
I'm from Europe and just discovering Humanoids. Man their stuff is wonderful.
Just received my Metabarons deluxe edition yesterday. Man, it has quickly moved up my list of cherished editions. Metabaron's is probably in my top ten graphic novels of all time. The oversized art just kicked it up a notch for me! The entire Jodoverse is underrated here in the states, but we are catching up.
That artwork alone in that series, right?
Excellent video Omar I hope it will get more people into Humanoids and European comics in general because I love Humanoids and especially everything by Alejandro Jodorowsky my favorites are Metabarons and Bouncer, on another note I hope Humanoids or another publisher gets the reprint rights to Blueberry so we can start getting some new collected editions of it all as not all of it is collected and what is collected is way out of print.
I hope so too my friend. They make wonderful books.
Metabarons new box set on its way! And I’m loving Berserk...thanks to you. Have all three HC volumes now.
I'm so glad you are loving Berserk!
I love how you presented Muse, and its heavy diverse social themes 😀
HAHAHAHA the ole eye candy trick. Show the goods while talking about logistics.
Glad you did this Omar...Humanoids is a great publisher and as beautiful as the books the actual stories are even more beautiful. Didn't see Bramble up there which is fantastic and sat with me days after reading. I have been wrestling with whether to pick up that Metabarons...but I just may need to...especially at only 1500 copies.
They printed a nice Barbarella I think too.
Absolutely beautiful.
Just brought a couple of Humanoids - Dragon Seed and Savage Highway - love the art in these books.
Hi Omar, have been watching your videos for a little while now, and have bought a TON of books from reviews and comments from your other subscribers. The sheer amount of 'must haves' keeps on growing!! I already have the 3rd volume of Hellsing on preorder! I have already bought quite a few Humanoids books - Savage Highway, Marshals, Shadows of Salamanca, Clockwerx, Metabarons Second Cycle, Legends of the Scarlet Blades, I Am Legion, The Last Ones, all in hardcover. A couple were too expensive on the second-hand market (Redlands, Metabarons the definitive edition, both slipcased editions), but I generally prefer hardcovers. Humanoids definitely have a different take on material and the art is indeed phenomenal. Keep making these videos. As always, stay minty fresh!!!
Great video. Nice to see this stuff highlighted. You should do 2000ad books at some point Omar
I need to fatten up that collection. What are your suggestions?
Near Mint Condition the obvious ones are the judge dredd case files. They print every story with judge dredd and are fantastic. Rogue trooper, strontium dog, balled of halo Jones, fiends of the eastern front, slaine the horned god, nemesis the warlock. Honestly that’s just the tip of the iceberg. They have an embarrassment of riches.
Great ! Never even heard of these
Hey Omar. I forgot to mention it: 1) awesome video review, man, thank you so much for highlighting the supreme European comics/graphic novels. 2) Really tired of waiting for complete Blueberry in english, so I’ve collected the Integral 10 volumes in Spanish (magnificent!!!). I did the same approach with Lands of Arran and Lanfeust, highly recommended for fantasy scifi readers. 👍👍
Hey, man.
Question: where do you buy comics in spanish? Being a spanish speaker myself and having to buy most of my books in english sucks a lil' bit, so any info on that regard will be appreciated.
@@MadButcherBlade Did you try Amazon?
Amazon in Spain, Gaston (amazon.es). I’m buying for 2 years now and never had problems. Look for Yermo Ediciones (outstanding catalog directly from Glenat). If you’re interested in Blueberry Omnibus, reference is Norma Editorial. Good hunting 😉✌️
Okay hermano. I may have to go that route. We had three volumes in English in the 80s.
Thanks for the recommendations guys. Sadly amazon is a no go for me, as the shipping costs are way too expensive no matter which country it comes from. US branch even banned shipments to my country lol, because of the unstable economy and terrible politics. They finally lifted it but the instability is actually worse, so yeah...
Not going to bore you with politics, so thanks for the info.
I'm from Argentina by the way, in case someone was wondering.
Wow thanks for this great introduction 🖖🙏🍀
Thank you so much for watching.
I only have the one Humanoids book: Luisa Now and Then. The translation is by someone else but it's adapted by Mariko Tamaki so it doesn't have that language issue. I don't think there's a hardcover in English but the paperback has nice thick pages, french flaps and it's a bit wider than regular.
I don't have that one, my friend.
@@NearMintCondition You should! It's a good read.
Damn I didn't know anything about humanoid. Definitely going to check it out. Thanks Omar for this great video
Thank you for watching! Glad you found out about Humanoid.
Finally! haha, thank you for making this video.
I made a promise. Now I have to do a video with Jess. :)
Love Incal, waiting on my Metabarons to come in. Read The Shadows of Salamanca, what did you think of that one I found it so so, kind of let Humanoids down for me a little being my first read fromt he publisher. Would love to get my hands on Carthago though it looks beautiful
I haven't read Shadows yet. But 90% of the stuff I read by them is amazing.
that's it!!! i breaking into your house! when is your next roadtrip?
LOL Come on down and have a beer with me.
Outstanding
Thank you so much, my friend.
Have you had a look at other eurobooks like Blueberry, comanche, Corto Maltese, spirou, The Killer ?
I waited too long for Corto since the HC never came. I have some Blueberry in Spanish and need to check out Spirou and Killer.
watch this later - but uh oh - got to buy more books now
You sure do!
How about 2000AD??? My favourite one is Slaine - kinda like a Celtic Prehistoric Conan with amazing painted art
Okay. I'm taking notes on 2000AD from all you wonderful folks.
That Metaborons is fantastic.
Really useful vid. I've never understood this line...
Hope it helps.
Hey, can you tell me, what do you think about Swords of Glass?
Loved the art and dug the story.
After watching this I looked up The Incal - there's now a deluxe edition scheduled for October - 12.5 inches, slipcase, etc. Listing for $150. At least I have some time to decide whether I want to spend that kind of money, lol.
Great review. I love Humanoids. My own series The Tide are all published as oversize European format hardbacks. Happy to send you review copies. Tide 3 coming to Kickstarter soon. More on my channel.
Oh that would be amazing! I love oversized books.
@@NearMintCondition sure let me know how to contact you.
love a lot of Humanoids stuff, especially Jodo's stuff. I have to say though, my favorite of his works is Son of the Gun. very underrated book by him.
Same here brother. Same here.
I love Carthago!! They need to finish translating the story so I can keep reading it. I am new to the Humanoids books, but very much loving their books. Next books from Humanoids for me is Downward To Earth and Izuna. Keep up the great work, your videos rock!
Thank you so much for the kind words.
There Is a carthago prequel called carthago adventures and the new follow up comes may 2020
Lol the hardcover comic just dropped same video. Near mint - hold my beer
Mike and Matt are good guys. I had no idea they were going to do a video like this. In order to keep up with reading and making content, about a year ago I had to stop watching other channels.
Hey Omar I can’t remember did the technopriests have a book ribbon bookmark? I can’t figure out if mine had a book ribbon bookmark
Wow, i am going to take the 90th Jodorowsky anniversary french boxset to began Jodorowsky, but the american release looks awesome too
90th?!! That is awesome.
@@NearMintCondition yes you should check out what those integrals look like, they are gorgeous
Lovely video, I don't see Bramble. Read it if you can, it's pretty good.
I don't have that one, my friend. But I will add it for sure.
Jimenez's METABARONS has maybe the ultimate art in comics
It’s wonderful.
Has there ever been a Humanoids book with subpar art? Is there another comic book imprint that does not greenlight subpar art?
There are some, but I don't own them. They are really picky with what they bring over.
Been wanting to start getting humanoid books. Been eyeing the incal for awhile. Is the jodoverse a good place to start?
Yes start with the jordowerse
Try The Metabarons as well
Are you going to do an advanced overview of that Spider-Man omnibus you shwled
Yes sir.
Hey omar just had a q, that carthago book is that a single edition or are there vol 2 3 etc, cuz in the paperback version there are quite a few diff volumes
It's a pity that, in some cases, there are censured images. If you like Jojo(Jodorowsky's nickname at Brazil) books, I advise you to learn French, it's easier than seems. Viva la bande dessinée!
Do you know which books were censored? I need to learn so many languages. :)
@@NearMintCondition I need searching which books was, but I will return with response soon.

Excuse me. Isnt the Magazine that Moebiois and other found in France Metal Hurlant, which in the US is Heavy Metal?
Some of the stories came from there, yes.
western was a famous genre in BDs
Hahaha: ''It kind of reminds me of the waaay some people react to Manga'' i think we all know who you are referring to.
;)
The Book of Chaos , review please
Son of the gun by jordowksy
Classic. I didn't show all of my Humanoids book, but most of them.
they are not oversized, that's the original size
For US or Europe?
They have made some excellent comics, some very underrated. But that was all in the past, as the current output is just terrible, bordering on unreadable.
Anyway, good video Omar.
what are some examples of garbage books lol
@OVAH Lord Ignited, Omni, Strangelands are good examples. Not all of them are garbage, mind you, but yeah... not good.
There are more comics coming out, but from the synopsis they have I don't know if they are worth looking into. Feel free to browse if you want.
Thanks may friend. I ahven't read those books. Are they part of their H1 universe?
@Near Mint Condition
I think they must be because they seem to be connected to one another. They also seem to have horrible sales you know, because they love to insert their political views and all that. You reap what you sow I say.
5:10 They have not translated Blueberry??? Wauw... Poor Americans...
Only three stories.
@@NearMintCondition The American comics market is weird... Thanks for replying.
Charest is pronounced shar-ay
Thank you so much.

"Written by a dude from Chile and an artist from France" - clearly you do not know much about Spaghetti Westerns my friend...
Clearly you don’t know much about my childhood and having to watch nothing but war movies, Japanese samurai flicks and spaghetti westerns with my uncles. :)
Hey man it's not jodowasky it's yodoroski(jodorowsky)... He's a famous movie director do check his movies...🤷🤷
It’s interesting how Latinos pronounce his name. One day I’d still would love to his Dune.
@@NearMintCondition hmm it's more like hodo... Than yodo 😀 i haven't seen dune ... Only 4 movies I've seen... 🤯🤯🤯🤯 His movies sheerly deserve graphic adaptations...
