Hi Mortismal. Big thanks for the review! Amazing to see 100% Review of your game before it's even out :) The problems you encountered in review version we addressed in 1.0 version. Performance is siginificantly improved, unresponsiveness is also improved but we'll keep working on it. Autonomous AI is a bit more problematic and will require us to invest more time into the rules, we don't give up on this though.
Should I buy the game on Steam or GOG? I always prefer to buy on GOG, but only if it will be supported there as well as on Steam, with little to no patch delay. Will that be the case? Do you have any preference?
Keep up the good work. Y'all have another hidden gem of a game here! It just needs a bit more polishing is all. Thanks for producing another unique and cool RPG!
All the problems? Like the companion AI not, or badly, using abilities?
@@jesperburns True, didn't reply to that. Will edit the post. AI - not, we made some improvement, but it still cannot compare to real player of course. We'll keep working on that.

I play Dragon Age Origins nearly yearly and the settings for companions in that game are great, since I can choose when they do what.

He does impressions rather than reviews, but Splattercatgaming does an awesome job highlighting upcoming indie and AA games and is entertaining.
@@deviantMystroI've unsubscribed from him and re-subscribed again so many times lol. Splattercat has possibly the most obnoxious personality on CZcams, but also spotlights obscure games better than anyone else, so I just keep coming back

Yeah, I am trying to finish it too because I have restartitis. Hopefully I will be done soon. Mortisimal is just superhuman, no doubt about that.

Thanks so much for covering games like this. I've played nearly all the mainstream RPGs and often complain about the lack of good games to play, meanwhile here's this amazing-looking indie RPG made in my own country that I have never heard about before. Definitely gonna check it out!

Oh man, I almost forgot about this game. I feel like I added it to my watch list 10 years ago. Tower of Time was a great... time... So I'm glad you fairly enjoyed yourself with Dark Envoy.

I hope it does good. This whole universe has future. Imagine a big open maps... like baldurs gate 1-2 with this combat where you can approach from multiple sides etc.
Thanks for the fast review, I had been looking forward to this. I'll likely hold off for a sale right now so they can hopefully address those technical issues you mentioned, but overall it still looks worth playing once it gets a bit of polishing.
Tower of Time's original price was pretty low, too, so it made me more willing to try it. I'm going to give it a shot.
I think i'll wait and see if they patch some of those bugs before I decide about buying. In the meantime, sounds like Tower of Time might be worth looking into.

Even if it is not the best CRPG ever, I will play it. I love CRPGs and play every one that comes out (not many). And supporting the devs we might see another Larian going from Divine Divinity to Baldur's Gate 3, or at least help them release more good games in the future.
I'm like that too with some games. Tower of Time did enough unique things where I wanted them to continue to make games. The only way to support that is to buy their games.

You're pretty much looking at it, just drop it in a comment somewhere, I read them all even I dont respond to everything. As for how I decide its mostly just a mix of personal interest/new release schedule/requests

Agree. While i have enjoyed TB for many years, RTWP offers the best combination of tactical planning and exciting, cinematic gameplay. Its just fun setting up rules or combat behaviors then just sitting back and seeing your chars execute them.

Fair review. Still, as a fan of the storytelling and atmosphere of ToT I believe that after some patching this is recommended purchase IMO.
I REALLY enjoyed Tower of Time, probably one of my most surprising pickups in the last few years. Can't wait to give this one a go with all the improvements over the original!
Never can have enough RTwP games around! Hoping the bugs get fixed sooner rather than later. Fingers crossed we'll even see a Dark Envoy Final Edition down the line.

The aspect of Tower of Time that I liked most was the level design, each floor of the tower was different, full of secrets and with a good variety of puzzles. How are we doing in this regrds, here, Morth?
Not quite as meticulous thanks to the random dungeons I'd say, but otherwise the core of that is still there

It's good to see a Real-Time-with-Slow mechanic. Last time I saw that was in the Game of Thrones RPG and it was a bit clunky there. I do prefer RTWP though overall.
Let's hope the responsiveness problem will be fixed soon. It's merely annoying in turn-based but a deal breaker in real time even with pause/slow
I'm disabled and mostly have to play on a controller due to my injury. The steam page says partial controller support. How well does this run using one?

Would you draw parallels to the shadowrum games? I kinda like the linearity as I cN only game on and off for an hour or two and open world games are just to big for me
The only similarities are they both have a narrative, and magic/tech. The combat is 95% different. This is a more combat-focused game. The combat is relatively unique in the current landscape, though.
I think Shadowrun's writing is better, but DE has voice acting, and it's good enough where it crosses the line of not being distractingly bad.

Bad AI seems to be a feature of RTWP games. FF12 and DAO's tactics scripting was goated, too bad it hasn't really been used since. Hope the bugs get fixed.

You don't need too no, Theres some stuff towards the end youll see coming if you played the first one but none of it is required knowledge

The overall healing system from PoE 1 was great. This sounds similar.
@@mathieuguillet4036 PoE 1 badly needed either turn-based mode or better companion AI to reduce the excessive micro-management, both of which they added in PoE 2. The complaints of bad AI did not fill me with confidence.

You are superhuman. There is no question here, perhaps even a demigod.
The main problem I see in these smaller developer games is while everything else is really great. The AI is always the issue bringing the entire game down. This is because AI is the hardest part of game development. Its the most fudged part too because it doesn't show immediately and many games skate through on the look and feel of everything else. So now I always look at AI first before i want to waste my time. This game seems challenging though regardless so bad AI doesn't totally ruin this game it seems.

Not knowing Tower of Times, the video is sometimes not as helpful as it could be as you often refer to something I don't know. However, the video does give enough information for me to make a decision about buying that game, so thank you for it.
I'm glad you mentioned the performance degradation problem with Unity CRPGs. It really annoyed the hell out of me in both Pathfinder and Pillars of Eternity. You just want to disappear into these kind of games and going from smooth sailing to 2003 powerpoint presentation really ruins the immersion.
Well it probably won't be much longer that Unity is used for these projects.
I just started this yesterday, and I gotta say the games balance seems all over the place to me. The tutorial section is ridiculously easy until a scripted fight then it's ball crushing hard. I'm only on normal and there is no way to get through fights without having slow-mo on from beginning to end & using everything you have perfectly. I don't know if it's a bug or what because I've seen other people confused also, it feels like I'm playing on hard/insane. I also noticed at the beginning you had like 2 or 3 times the ability points I have and I'm level 3, so I don't know if they broke it, changed it or what, but it's not very fun at the moment. To give credit the devs do seem pretty responsive on Steam but it's months after launch, I thought it would be okay by now.

You mentioning this used to be turn based made me think of this unreleased game with a similar name. Think it was more Steam punk with blimps and air ships.
But maybe it's this game?
An isometric game that was supposed to come out in 2020, and has 2015-level graphics (and facial animations straight from 2011). So of course it has 3060 ti in system requirements.

I don't speak English and I can't find out if you're talking about the game's lifespan?
He said it took him about 30 hours to beat. Other reviews have around 20 hours. You can replay and try new classes and choose different story paths.
Seeing how much you liked tower of time, this sounds like somewhat of a let down. Here's hoping with some patches things can be ironed out to make the gameplay better
It takes some time to get used to the Combat. Hope they patch the unresponsives because the Game itself is totally fine and a welcome diversion after playing "BG3" and "Starfield".

Yeah, ToT left alot to be desired.. Ill be skipping this one.
I am glad its rtwp instead of turn based, but ToT combat just felt slow. I gave it a 2nd chance after some camera software stopping it from running on ny previous PC, but then I couldnt get into it.

I have this game on my wishlist cause I was assuming it would be turn based. Bit of a disappointment they changed the system for it.
This game got a little old for me after 10 or 12 hours. The dungeons are very small and have very little diversity. I do enjoy the combat but had to crank up the difficulty a little as it’s pretty easy on normal. Still plan on finishing it, just have slowed down a bit.
Shame it ended up being rtwp, ill give this one a pass as i prefer turn based...still happy developers managed to mostly finish this one, it looks fun for people in the genre
