    I guess being a long time old school pc tech I’m a little biased but that isn’t a difficult HDD removal and was pretty standard.

    Legacy BIOS CAN boot GPT, but it needs a BIOS Boot Partition on the Disk in order to be able to start booting, which Linux Mint Tries to install to an EFI firmware partiton, which isn't supported on Legacy BIOS

    • @ScuffedPCs
      @ScuffedPCs  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I tried formatting it that way, perhaps I did it wrong but that was definitely something I tried in the installer.

      Yes this should absolutely work (out-of-the-box even). I did install Fedora 39 recently on a BIOS machine and the installer did the right thing. Mint(/Ubuntu?) installer has a bug here, they probably didn't test that. Maybe they're out of BIOS machines. :thinking_face:

    Every non- apple computer before 2012 or so was Legacy BIOS. Windows 8 is the one that made UEFI standard in 2012. Some motherboards had it earlier though ;)

      @@user-cg5xv4zz2b 😊 yes its confusing even today because the bios screen can sometimes look exactly the same between the two versions.

    • @MrSamadolfo
      @MrSamadolfo Před 2 měsíci

      @@ScuffedPCs 🙂 sure buddy, i understand, for cheap video cards the number one cheap gaming card is: $12 AMD HD 8570 or the slow 7570, they work just fine in Windows 11, I can still see the bios screen with a new monitor and old motherboard combination. You will need a display port cable for the card or DVI cable. U could also checkout a used GT or GTX video card. Something around the 40 dollar mark. Like a bus powered 750 750ti, and the cards that use a single 6pin video plug are pretty safe to use with a SATA Adapter for example a gtx 950. U also have a bunch of radeon cards but some of them are hit or miss with a new monitor so if u go down that route make sure u have older monitors in ur arsenal otherwise you wont be able to see the bios screen.

    🙂 Broh, technically after the blowout or instead of blowing it out you also have the option of putting everything into a bathtub and giving it a good hot soap wash down, then rinse, then pat down with a towel, then u mite want to bake it a little bit in the oven, then air dry on table with a fan overnight. It's really the only way to get off all the germs. The other way is giving it a good wash in a tub full of alcohol but that can get pricey and its kinda overkill unless its medical equipment for use at a hospital.

    I have 2 cases that have a removable cage for the HD/Floppy (s) but no screws, has a latch. It is not so bad if you know to take the cage out and then change HD/Floppy (s). In fact, I find that easier than working the the cases that have cages that do not come out.

    to switch from mbr to gpd ( and I think the reverse ) you have to write/overwrite the boot block/partitiont table. the partition table differs between the 2 and they will not mix. I assume Mint allows this ( I am about 100% that Kubuntu does ). I have computers in my house and are running that are either one. and they are running a kubuntu/Mint dual boot config. that is how you fix it. To add, this is an option if you do manual partitioning inside the installer - so you can fix this at install time.

    • @MrSamadolfo
      @MrSamadolfo Před 2 měsíci

      🙂 interesting, i usually just run the auto installer and if it doesnt work then i try a different distro. I'll try the manual option next time just to learn something new. Thanks.

      🙂 yes, radeon cards are weird, some of the cards with some motherboards u can't see the bios screen which is really anoying. I've had good success with HD 8570 7570 as I can see the bios screen, and they both work fine in windows 11 and old boards. I haven't done extensive linux tests but the little bit I tried the cards seem to work ok. But yes I agree that u should have on hand a stash of GT and GTX video cards because they are more compatible friendly with most motherboards and most operating systems.

      @@ScuffedPCs 🙂yes hes rite, use ur finger and hold the fan in place while u blow it, its a good practice for any fan u come upon, that includes when u work on your cars, trucks, and home. Because a spinning fan at very high speed could come apart and the plastic pieces could hurt you or it could damage surrounding parts. Its like a mini grenage. So yes be careful with an air gun.
