My friends (who play other instruments) get mad at me when I play up to F (the note right below the first G showed on here). This is insane though! I didn't realize the clarinet went this high. I've only seen charts up to A!
More specifically those who tried to do so and destroyed their lips in the process. I feel like it's more fun to do this stuff on bass clarinet, as your range is more practical and can go up to where the clarinets usually play. Tuning the clarinet Ds and Es is always pretty great
In Marching Band lots of music is above the high high C on the Clarinet so I always have to bring it down an octave but this video helped. The making sure the intonation of that high note is in tune is always a pain on the clarinet lol even so when trying to blend a chord with other instruments
Not sure what kind of marching band music is having you play this high on clarinet. You will basically never see these notes except in very very few solo pieces
i sounded like a speeding train with the brakes. also trying to play that C it played F with 8 ledger lines.... i think its 8.... too many ledger lines. thats better
It's harder than what I usually use. I think it was Vandoren 3.5 with a 5RV mouthpiece (I usually use strength 3 with B40 lyre, which is quite softer than most of my fellow clarinettists use). Everybody's set up is different, and for this circumstance my set up was very specific!
I was a little delayed on high because I had braces and that affects it because I was able to play up to high g in 6th grade but when I got braces I couldn’t due to the bumps I guess and got delayed
As for all high notes, you will need a lot of air flow and higher lip tension. It's easier said than done because you will need a relaxed throat but tight lips. It's very easy for your throat to tense up (As if you are screaming) while maintaining high tip tension and high airflow. When you play, you should open up your throat, so your vocal cord should be relaxed as if you are saying "Oooooooo". Apply more lip pressure onto the reed, but obviously not too much that it dampens all vibrations. You could try pushing your lower lip harder onto to the reed, or move your lower lip up slightly towards the tip of your reed so you are biting less. When I made this video, I shot the same thing like 10, 20 times and it made a big teeth mark on the inside of my lower lip, usually one that I will get for playing normal things for like 2 hours. Playing high notes is essentially asking the reed to vibrate in a very high frequency, in a controlled way. It definitely requires a lot of trial and error. Keep it up!
im a year late but u basically need to change ur embouchure. feel how the higher notes sound and kind of increase pressure. idrk how to explain it u have to experiment until u find the note and once u do remember how ur mouth feels while playing that note
Nolan Watkins really good air support and fully formed embouchure. The important thing is about knowing how the reed reacts. A “blown” out reed won’t get up there generally. I can get up F above the highest E on this and use slightly different fingerings.
My question is how do you articulate the higher notes, I've been able to hit a high A as my highest note so far as a freshman in high school. I can't figure out what articulation I have to replicate and to do for the higher notes like G# and above
Maybe true, Michael! But 2 things: 1. Widening your playing range helps expand your comfort zone. For example, if you want to play C (5 ledger lines) in, say, Spohr's Clarinet Concerto No. 1, it would help if you learnt notes even higher than that to achieve stability on said note. 2. You'd never know what contemporary and future composers write for us :) We and composers should always be striving to break boundaries!
Try to play 1st c to E above the staff or beyond that really fast and when youre at that note try to hold it still with experimenting with air and whats going on inside your mouth
i can get to high b above high b u showed and high bb but everything you did above high a is wayy cleaner than mine, i can just like barely squeak or play it if lucky
I can hit the F above the E played here. There are many factors involved but if you’re good with knowing where the harmonics sit then higher like on the fingering chart is of course possible. Reed strength and mouthpiece will have a big say in that though.

i cant play these without a serious dent on my lower lip lol
I specifically used Vandoren 5RV to play these notes. Sacrificing tone colour somehow, but much easier and better stability in the high register!
Felt
fr fr same i cut my lip but its not bleeding so im still practicing

I can only play up to a high high D as I leaned off of my fingering chart years ago😭
me also
The high high c is the highest one I can play right now, hopefully I'll be able to play all these within the next few months
The 9 dislikes are people who can’t go to E

@@tylerhicks621 well not this high ofc but I’m typically higher on the register and I did use this register for star spangled banner

damn! I have to play the high C for the end of Concerto For Clarinet (by Artie Shaw) so this is really helpful! :)
Very clear and precise , valuable instruction.
GIMME DAT REED
And imagine getting a squeak on one of those while playing on piccolo clarinet 😨
NO
Yeah... I'd be deaf after hearing a piccolo clarinet playing notes that high XD
If you add the g# key to the E fingering, you will get a high F.
This is going to be fun. Maybe not for the people who have to hear me trying...
i sounded like a speeding train with the brakes. also trying to play that C it played F with 8 ledger lines.... i think its 8.... too many ledger lines. thats better
also R.I.P. embouchure. i think thats how you spell it
also also. i scared all my pets away.
also also also. the super high ones worked better with my teeth on the reed if that helps

Thanks for the fingerings!
i can do this easy, but on a saxophone.
put your teeth on the reed lol

Thank you so much for the tips, I will incorporate the advice and hopefully I will reach those notes. 🤞😄
Help me on this plz
When I play the g 4 lines above the staff it sounds like high high c#
Am I squeaking or am I noob
I can only play up to the d at 0:13 and whenever I change to the next two notes it doesn’t change it keeps playing the d. Any advice?

@@Cornodebassetto how do you finger the f?
The right size reed helps too. To low of a reed makes it almost impossible to hit the high notes and keep them in tune
Thank you!!! awesome demo!
I wanna play the violin part for blood by Kendrick but the highest note gets to f so idk if u can squeeze another full step🙏🙏🙏
bass clarinet 4 1/2 octave gang (C one octave below middle to F 2 octaves above the staff)

Very interesting, but not practical in a musical ensemble, as these notes would be covered by the piccolo.
Michael Miller great for "who can play the highest note contests" among freshman
I can play this

The alpine symphony requires 1st clarinet to hit altissimo B
But what if you want your clarinet to become the piccolo?
i can play high D but i haven't tried high E
I love absolutely annoying the pants out of my section with extremely High Notes

How come your clarinet have four holes, while mine have three based on structures on right side of four key system? 0:08?
It doesn't
Wow
that last e is so hard lmao

Faster air, relaxed throat and tighten the lip muscles. It is a muscle, so you may need to get used to tightening it until it becomes strong enough.
Thx

Alex Nightingale altissimo notes are technically just pitched squeaks.
That's true! That's why I don't get mad when my students squeak. I'd like to think that they're just getting a head start on the higher register lol!
Are there higher notes than high high E?
www.wfg.woodwind.org/clarinet/cl_alt_4.html goes up to a7, i don't know about after that

Im pretty sure the Bb clarinet can go up to a c8, anything higher than that would prob be impossible to play tbh
Thats 5 octaves i think
That’s deafening for a clarinet
to be honest the highest note is actualy blowing way too hard in the clarinet that it sounds like a dying whale
5 octoves* o.O
BobDaUnicorn_ 3 contrabass can do 5.5 octaves
