This may have been mentioned earlier, but you really must rinse those parts before drying. Even the slightest remnant of simple green (a degreaser) will defeat your lubricant. It doesn't take much degreaser to destroy the properties of your lube. I always rinse under warm water & do another ultrasonic with fresh clean filtered water. THEN dry the parts and reassemble and lube. Ultrasonic cleaners are great, but get all that degreaser off the parts before reassembly.

@@wokethoughts2186unfiltered water contains minerals that can deposit on the part and might be corrosive or become corrosive to either the part or the lube. not a super big deal but distilled water is like $1 at walmart per gallon and its alot better that just water straight from the tap.

I have a 25 litre ultra sonic cleaner which I use for cleaning motorcycle carburettors and their small internal parts, and a good tip for cleaning very small parts is to put the parts in one of those fine mesh muslin bags that you use for laundry tablets and suspend the bag in the cleaner tank. Now I have seen this, my Colt Walker will be getting an ultra sonic bath in future.

I'd just like to add one point that I didn't see addressed in the comments and that is that the Simple Green original formula isn't the best choice for use on aluminum. It can actually etch some aluminum alloys. A better cleaner for things like aluminum frames is their Extreme Aircraft and Precision Cleaner. It's just as effective at cleaning but safe for aluminum alloys.

Dustin, how well does the ultrasonic method work on assemblies I really don't want to strip down to pins, springs, and parts? I am thinking about the bolt, and the trigger & safety, in my old Remington 582 bolt action .22 LR? The hardest part I can see is getting everything dry. I have used jury rigged tools to strip and reassemble both groups - once, ages ago. I should've left those cleaning jobs to a gunsmith with the right tools. (Stripping my Colt Pocket for this, though, will work great.)

I was just wondering since this video is a year old, how that ultrasonic is holding up? I have gone through three. Two were the smaller versions you see made under Lyman and Harbor Freight brands. The other I ordered off Amazon under the Kendall brand which looked almost identical to the one you are using in this video. It died after about a year. All of these ultrasonics are made in China and just rebranded according to the wholesale purchaser. From my experienc, they just don't hold up very well. I am considering either the Ultra 1300M or Infante S6 for my next purchase, but they are considerably more expensive. So I would appreciate your feedback as to how this Vevor is holding up. THanks
