David Grann is the author of "Killers of the Flower Moon," which was adapted into a movie up for multiple Oscars tomorrow, and several other nonfiction books that have made bestseller lists. Grann talks his career and his work on a new book in a conversation with Michelle Miller.

As a writer myself I understand eavesdropping on others conversations and creating stories in our heads. I can be riding on the train headed into the City and see a van parked beside the road. In that flash of a moment I've got a story created in my head as to why that van was there.

The book was far more detailed than the film although both were excellent.
