      Hi . You actually get all the updates even if you buy the unit upfront. I have the in&motion unit since 2019 in an IXON airbag. It is exactly the same as this unit. It is updated with all new algorythmes for free. I have the classic formula, so I don't have to pay monthly or yearly because I own the full functional unit without extra costs. All this hate people are throwing at In&motion because of subscription is pure nonsense. If you don't want that , you can buy, pay ones and still get all updates for the life of the product

    Actually READ the terms, you can buy it out right for the same price as a Tech Air 5 OR pay the subscription up to 3 years and you own the box. Like a car loan. It's your choice, it's just lowering the initial cost to have an electronic airbag. That's it. It's not that confusing.

      Tough take considering the entire MotoGP grid don't use Helite, and most of the Rally racers use Alpinestars or other brands, not tethered Helite systems. Definitely the more popular option at your local track day, but most pro "actual riders" seem to be using non-Helite brands ...

But, if you aren't just watching recent video uploads from Canadian content creators, the fact that Alpinestars exists in nearly every race scene with their tech-based systems while Helite is more known and popular for their tethered systems, I'd say Alpinestars has the advantage. And since they collect data / crash stats from active riders, Alpinestars is vastly superior at gathering info and executing it. But hey, maybe Helite will be on the MotoGP grid one day, or approved to be used in the Dakar / other FIM sanctioned races one day. Until then though, Helite is too new to algorithms to be the best.

    Too many subscriptions in our modern world already! Even WIndows updates when it needs to. If I buy it up front I don't get the updates? That seems to be the unspoken message Spurg is giving. So, I am unlikely to replace my Helite which cost less and is cheaper to reset also.

      You still get the firmware updates if you buy it up front, but you don't get the new physical tech/brain if a new option comes out from In&Motion. I think that's one of the key benefits to the monthly, is getting the new tech if something should come out.

    looks like a good unit but WOW what a price gouge. That In&box brain being a separate cost makes it way too expensive for the average Joe. If they made the whole system cheaper they'd sell a lot more (and make as much money) and save thousands of lives!

  • @somestuffithoughtyoumightl6985

    There’s an interesting shift in manufacturing these days. It used to be that reliability and after sale product support leads to more sales and profitability. Manufacturers seem to now think they can charge extra for support if their product if it lasts more than a year. I value reliability over “cutting edge”, but I guess that’s why we have options.

  • @jayd3931
    @jayd3931 Před rokem +7

    I think people are not understanding the Subscription model. The airbag would be $400 more expensive if you don't want a subscription. So you can either pay $400 upfront, or save the upfront cost and go on a subscription. No one is holding a gun to your head.

    • @patrickmchugh8039
      @patrickmchugh8039 Před rokem +2

      Yeah, people just hear the word subscription and ignore the rest. Subscription is a great option for those riding once / twice a year, while buying out seems to be the best option for those using it every day. Its all relative cost when compared to other algorithm-based systems though IMO. I'm also not an FIM-sanctioned rider though, so my hard chest/back armor will do me just fine.

    How much ventilation is in this jacket , looks solid so air flow through the vest must be minimal to say the least, gets hot out here in Australia and this looks like you not wear it in the heat of the day negating why would you buy it?

    Will this allow me to remove the back protector 3D0 armor in my Badlands Jacket? Also, I use a Leatt Neck Brace - will this interfere or enhance the Leatt effectiveness?

    • @patrickmchugh8039
      @patrickmchugh8039 Před rokem +3

      You wouldn't need the back protector with the Badlands since this has the passive one built in (if the airbag didn't deploy). Looking at Klim racers in the Dakar (where this one is required), does not look like any are using a neck brace with this vest. The side deployment locations over the shoulders would stabilize the head side to side, but would also make a brace jam upwards so I wouldn't recommend both if it were me.

    Seems like they should have a huge stock of those on hand to fill the demand, especially when charging a monthly fee.

    I’m seriously leaning towards a Klim vest (Rally or the regular one). The Rally apparently has better air movement and chest protectors. No one is going to care about a subscription or an outright purchase once they walk away from an accident.
    I’ve looked at Helite external vests also. They do the job but I think they are industrial looking. The Klim vest has a minimalist approach which is very appealing.
    What’s one more piece of gear? I ride an RT, which means you wear all the gear all the time lol

    I got a couple of minutes into the video and the talk was of subscription costs..............at that point I lost interest. I either own something, or I don't. If it needs voluntarily updating, or necessarily fixing at a later date then I will pay those costs. So, even though I am fortunate enough to easily afford this and I have a collection of Klim kit I don't do subscriptions for kit........so this is a NO.

    Really don't understand peoples problem with the subscription or one time payment. The one time payment brings it to basically the same price as all the other airbag jackets on the market. The subscription allows you to get into airbag jackets with a lower initial cost with the added benefit of hardware support for a few years. If you're so tight on cash that you're complaining about the cost of airbag jackets, then don't ride. It's a sport with risks. You choose, your life or a cheap jacket compared to the cost of injury or death.
