Data & Picard

- A Pogo remix of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Details below.
Temba, his arms wide! In Tamarian this signifies the giving of a gift, first heard in the excellent episode Darmok. Data & Picard is my tribute to one of the greatest TV series of all time. It is an original track featuring the voices of Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) and Commander Data (Brent Spiner), accompanied by a music video I shot entirely in my living room with a green screen and lights.
The track opens with the Klingon Victory Song, followed by a remix of Data singing Che Gelida Manina in the episode 'In Theory'. This episode was the first ever to be directed by Patrick Stewart and I didn't realize this until after the track was finished.
I sourced the Ben Nye makeup that was used to turn Spiner into Data, and a replica of the iconic Star Fleet uniform. Unfortunately I couldn't get the contact lenses in and I could only get the uniform in red, so I spent a huge amount of time changing the colour of my eyes and uniform in post.
The video was shot in Slog 4k ProRes HQ using a Sony A7SII and an Atomos Ninja Flame. Lights included 3x Arri 800w Tungstens, 2x Socanland LED banks to light the screen, and one 2000w Blonde to simulate sunlight. BIG thanks to the guys at HD Rentals in Perth for helping me out. www.hdrentals.tv/

Pretty sure this was the whole point of CZcams right here.
💯👏
This is what CZcams used to be. Giving independent creators a platform to show their work.
Now it's just full of corporate greed.
That's why Pewdiepie losing the #1 spot was such a big deal. He was the last "CZcamsr" standing, before a massive corporate entity took top spot. It was like watching the last thing that made CZcams so great in the first place, die.
Sorry for the rant, it's just really sad to see.
Amen
@@rain9058 It's funny about PewDiePie's subscriber count being overtaken, because I remember a time when people seemed to hate him and thought he was the antithesis to what CZcams should be, or at least just really annoying.
@@k-leb4671 Yeah it was a strange turn around that everybody suddenly loved him.
Personally I always liked the guy. I only watch the occasional video of his but he seems like a genuinely decent dude. Uses his time and influence to donate and fundraise for good causes.
1st time listening: What... Is.... this....?
3rd time: Eh, I guess it's kinda catchy
1007th time:.... When I have plucked the rose.....
that is exactly what is happening to me right now. made it past the what is this stage and i can feel it becoming a part of my soul
@@nathanielmcclaflin1374 oh sweet maria. this is how it's been for me too! on repeat until i deplete!

This is a Banger...Still rocking it in 2024
some say that he's still rocking out in the year 9999🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Still introducing friends to it and then getting readdicted with them each time
No matter how fcuked up life gets, I find comfort with this. Pogo made a classic.
This song has those Juice WRLD vibes. Not in the music sense, but in the curing of your depression part.
He absolutely NAILS Data's facial expressions.
@Christopher Vanasse He perfectly emulates both of their mannerisms though, doesn't he? He looks to me like he could play an academy age Picard.
@@anonymousaccordionist3326
YES
I was thinking how someone not very familiar with the series might easily miss the Data facial ticks n whatnot.
We wonder if Brent Spiner(Data) and Patrick Stewart(Capt Picard) have seen this?? Something tells me they would be absolutely in hysterics laughing at this and no doubt Jonathan Frakes who plays Cmd Will Riker no doubt! 🤣 Absolute masterpiece parody!!!
He gets them both quite perfectly. If I were him the only thing I’d to is nail the Data part and then shave my head to do Picard, but I couldn’t nail the Data part in the first place so I’d just shave my head and find a corner to go cry in
I consider this canon.
lmao!
Definitely more canon that Star Trek Discovery.
@@chazlewis8114 I haven't seen it, but from what I've heard I must concur. :D
@Jennifer Taylor
I agree. And I'm a communist!
I’d consider it canon if Pogo weren’t a nightmare of a person. :)
4 years later and I still come back once a week. Absolute banger
That makes more than two of us! 😂
One of the best fan produced ST videos imo!

... and just the music in the car too.
Still holds up, you've made a timeless mix.
All Pogo is immortal...
Any last and every last song/mix
Yep, randomly popped up in my head, and here we are again ^^
Nice call backs to the Picard song
The facial expressions on his interpretation of Data are insanely accurate.
xBladeM6x Yes, that’s got my attention too, you don’t get those facial expressions down overnight. it comes from repeatedly watching the shows, over time.
Agreed. I noticed the same thing with the Data facial expressions.
Good call good sir. Those eyebrows!
Definitely correct.
Ditto y'all. The brows are superb.
Indeed.
My boss asked me what kind of music I liked, so I told him to look up Pogo. He watched this video and now I am getting a promotion. I am self employed.... so this is some powerful shit.
That comment was a wild ride

Those facial expressions are bang on.
Also Picard's... perfect!!!
Except when he was dancing, in which case he was channeling Mike Strutter.
2:19 especially here
@@mofo6907 Mike Strutter, i'm telling you.

that would be me
I'm back again --- I think I've watched it a few dozen since last year some time.
Only 100? Its replaced coffee as my morning stimulant for years now lol
I'm guilty.
There’s something unique about this for people to like it so much to watch it over and over. Including myself
I wonder if Shakespeare ever thought ‘you know, in the future my words will be sung out in a parody song on the internet about a ship in space featuring a robot and a knight of the realm.’ I guess not.
Fun fact: TNG was the most-watched Star Trek show, with a peak audience of 11.5 million during its fifth season prior to the launch of DS9. Between 1988 and 1992 it picked up half a million to a million additional viewers per year.
This song has nearly become as popular!
Fun fact, they used to screen "big episodes" of TNG at a University here in Perth Western Australia back in the early 90's on a big screen.
My dad would take me, I was 9 and my best memories ❤
Funny you should say that because this CZcams video currently has 11,5 million views :)
And now it has 12 million views... (○_○)
I heard All The Good Things had 30 million viewers.
Star Trek is Gene Roddenberry's best work. Star Trek died with him. Nobody else "gets it".
I kind of desperately need a sequel to this.
Hmm! Maybe of Q?

Feeling a sleep listening to of one of my spoify stations, woke up to this song this morning. Might actually set an alarm just make sure I do for the rest of the quarantine.
Yeah, it's goofy fun but there's something genuinely uplifting about it XD
This will never get old.
Yo Pogo, just wanna say this song legitimately cuts through to my heart. My girlfriend and I watched TNG with so much reverence and joy before she passed away. "Tis better to have loved and lost." Love the funny parts too, and the dedication to the impressions. Love this dude. Thank you.
I'm sorry for your loss
Bro, sending virtual hugs.
Don't be sad the moments passed, be happy they happened. As Picard said it is better to have loved and lost than .....
Incredibly sorry for your loss, feel hugged:)
I’m coming back to this in shitty times. I remember the literal joy and excitement I felt listening to it many years ago, I got a taste of that again, and it was much needed.

The genius here is that the subtle mannerisms of Data are spot on
Yes, that's exactly why I have not only listened to the clip 18 times today, I've also watched it each and every time.
His Picard isn't half bad either, the "Tea, Earl Grey, hot" part was spot on.
He nails the mannerisms of Data and has more than a passing resemblance to a younger Patrick Stewart.
His data mannerisms were so on point it was almost uncanny
Yeah, that was my main takeway. His eyebrow raises and "Data seeking data" side glances are so remarkably familiar that I was taken aback.
His control of green screen and lighting is amazingly professional.
Yea, it looks like he is in the locations. Pogo is one of my main inspirations, and he helps me push towards bettering everything I do.
Makeup too. His Commander Data persona is PERFECT.
Fun fact, he only had the red uniform. He digitally changed each frame to make it yellow
@@saikoujikan he also had to digitally change his eye
the fact that you can tell it's a green screen tells me that his use of green screen isn't great ;)
I'm from the year 2764. This is a remnant of the old world that still exists, and thank God, because it absolutely still slaps.
My... god... this is one of the most epic performances anyone from our humanity has ever cobbled together.
It's a wonderful tribute to a wonderful show. If you're a fan you need to see this.

"...incredibly unbroken sentence; moving from topic to topic...no one had the chance to interrupt. It was...quite hypnotic."
I love the inclusion of Patrick Stewart playing Data impersonating Picard
Iconic TNG moment!
what part is that
@@perennialistperspective The numbers Picard is reciting in the song are actually Data impersonating Picard from the Episode Brothers. Data uses Picard's voice to lockout the command codes so he can hijack the Enterprise.

Not to mention he has the Data mannerisms down to a T...
I never realized this was missing from my life. Now I wonder how I lived without it. Gives me a new appreciation of life.

I listened to this a bunch of times before I ever watched star trek. I'm pretty sure it's what got me to watch all of the original series, its movies, and now TNG.
Just watched season 2 episode 18, the origin of that line in the video, and I got a huge feeling of euphoria remembering this song that I absolutely had to come back and listen to it again!!
The intro sequence is from that same episode.
Also, the rocky background is a clear reference to season 2 episode 4.
I love Star Trek.

season 3 episode 24 is where the poem part of the song comes from
it's like 90% of this creation came from season 3
@@MaximumUtmost Should check out TNG "Flaunting Danger", "That Jean Luc Picard", "Riker episode 1". "Goodnight, sweet BEEP", etc..

I feel like this was an elaborate excuse for him to buy Star Trek costumes. (edit) Now armed with the knowledge that he is in fact only wearing one digitally altered costume I'm thoroughly impressed.
It's actually one uniform. I remember him saying he edited the engineering tan over his command red & it took some time getting it just right.
Worth it.
We ( Trekkies) don't need excuses to buy Star Trek costumes. We need excuses not to buy them!

Yep. Oddly it could be inferred that the reason Picard regarded Data as his surrogate "son" in the movies is because Data shares many traits with Picard particularly the inability to bond with others on the ship.
Nah. Data had ethics.
@@voltinator Both of them bond with others on the ship lol
he is functioning within normal parameters
God damn it here I am watching it again and again and again
Thanks for this masterpiece. I come back to this whenever I need to recalibrate
Man, he REALLY has the Data facial expressions down! Perfection.
He's also got a lot of Captain Picard's mannerisms on lock. Brilliant!
@@FaenorFiremind Lock.
Besides the mannerisms, he could easily pass for a young Picard.
@@goranmihajlovic6179 My thoughts exactly!!!
on a lot of it the trick is not moving your shoulders as much as possible and just slightly slowing down and exaggerating the facial movements
