angst is fear, i beleive the song to be about how everyone is in fear of everyone and everything due to the media only showing the bad in the world and not the good

In my oppinion, the color red was chosen, because it's the natural "alarm" color, blood is red, so we are very mentally extremely aware of this color.
So regarding this song, everything "media" relatet is red, it is transporting "alarming" news and information inducing fear in us.
First this fear leads to sealing off against others (represented in building the walls) then that turns into mistrust against each other (spycams on the walls), the destruction of scoiety is the result (they are shooting into the circle "at each other", everything collapses).
The black and white is also representing the "black and white"-thinking of today. You're either on ones side, or the other, no oppinion "in between" is accepted.
Very, very good interpretation that I agree with almost completely.
The "Schwarzer Mann" is NOT a racist slur. It is simply the German term for the boogeyman, a mythical figure causing fear. Maybe in olden times when racism as such was accepted it MAY once have been intended as both a racist slur as well as a symbol of fear.
Awesome reaction again Stacey! I love seeing people getting lost in Rammstein! In my 50+ years of listening to music I’ve never come across a band like them. They nail every aspect. The music is sublime, no words for Till’s voice and you have their music videos which are second to none as are their live shows 🤤🤤🤤🤘🤘

their concert was the best one i have seen in my life. mj's bad tour was my number one for decades, especially with the guy in a jet pack landing on stage. but rammstein crushed that with their stage alone, a true piece of art, and the show is straight fire.

When Till had to deal with those sexual assault allegations, during live performances he changed the lyrics from
'Alle haben Angst vorm schwarzen Mann' (Everyone is afraid of the Boogeyman) to 'Alle haben Angst vorm Lindemann' (Everyone is afraid of Lindemann)
What should of course not go unmentioned is that all allegations have been dismissed. Not surprising, because no one could be found to officially attest to any of the crap.
@@spring_in_paris Fun thing is that the woman who was first coming up with the allegations later said that Till never touched her once. All allegations were at this one woman (from the management?) who picked girls from row one and possibly drugged them.

Doesn't TECHNICALLY mean nothing happened considering how much the women were harrassed who did speak out but I guess if you've already faced the harassment it's not like it'd get worse if you also made an official statement.

Angst in German doesn't really mean the same thing. It means fear. The song is about fear of strangers (or more specifically, immigrants), and the politician is spreading and/or abusing that fear, with the cheerleaders as his supporters (or industry lobbyists selling guns). Germany, and Europe in general, does not really have the concept of cheerleaders. Make of that what you will.

I find it interesting to contemplate the thought process of RAMMSTEIN when using words like Schwarzenmann which if literally translated mean something different to it's use in the original German (as I understand it). Given previous experience with the band the fact that 'fear of the bogeyman' could also be interpreted as 'fear of the black man' can't be any surprise. The aim of the video seems set squarely on the USA with the cheerleaders, gun culture and the archetypal 1960s style dressed dad.

I think it's more about Fear than Anxiety. It talks about fear of the (boogie man or black man, could mean both) The fear takes people that look like happy dads in suburbia, infects them through their screens, then the cheerleaders sell them bricks for their walls, sells them security cameras, sells them guns, then they use the guns to destroy all they own. The color scheme of black, white, and red is rather fascist. Meanwhile, the black mother and son, sitting in the dirt surrounded by barbed wire can't go anywhere, and people are watching on TV but not doing anything about it. Refugees from North Africa, perhaps.
This is my favorite song and video from the current album. So powerful, and such a killer guitar riff.
Agree with all of your points. I interpret the color red as fear as well. It's being spread by the leader at the pulpit and his supporters (cheerleaders) which is used to control the behaviors of everyone. The shady men (perhaps those behind the scenes that are spreading the fear to the leader and his supporters) are shown as feeding on that fear.
I have been neglecting most new Rammstein songs for a while now, and had never seen Angst yet, it was amazing. I'm working on my thesis about the impact of mass and social media on society and democracy, and this was so fitting. They are so good, I've seen them live once but it might be time for another concert :D

Love how you interpret what's going on in the videos. While the creators will have a vision for how the music should be interpreted ultimately it's up to the individual which makes videos like yours so interesting. Would love to see a Reaction to Heilung | LIFA - In Maidjan. A bit different from anything you've reacted to before but after 6 years I still haven't heard anything quite like it. I don't know if you've heard of a similar german band called Eisbrecher. But judging by your taste in music, I would highly recommend the song Fakk by Eisbrecher. This song is so massive, so strong that it bangs you against the wall with a fantastic narrative statement. The lyrics are just strong and good and definitely an idea for you, I'm sure.
Almost perfectly translated by the user educated marine, who has also done enormously good translations for rammstein.

This was the first time I watched the video for "Angst". I had seen several thumbnails over the time and I found the topic disturbing.
What I immediately registered was that the bandmembers were sitting in a circle but all facing outwards in the very beginning. In that scene there weren't really any fences but everyone of them had their own lawnmower for their own individual little plot of land. For me this was a clear jab at both the USA with their gated communities or suburban dystopia of hundreds of identical houses in one section outside the cities. Everyone looks outside believing their neighbors to have their backs, and in the beginning that may have been grounded in reality.
The second jab was at the typical German Kleinbürger with their Schrebergarten. That's the small minded city residents with their own tiny plot of garden in dedicated shrubbery filled garden sections within city limits. It's a VERY stereotypical part of German culture. Again, people claim to support individuality and community, but in reality shut themselves off from their neighbors.
As we advance through the song the delineation of mine and thine gets stronger and stronger as fear and mistrust is spoon-fed to us by crazy politicians in straightjackets.
They prey on the weakest members in a society as they make such great scapegoats . Weaker groups in a society can't really fight back, so they have to suffer the consequences.
We are constantly bombarded with often completely unfounded claims of what group such-and-such is supposed to have done.
This fear mongering and lying is such a powerful election tool to gain votes, no matter how damaging and divisive it is down the line. In the short term it may lead to power, in the long-term to the downfall of the lier.
We often don't even get the original story but only a two or three times digested and regurgitated version of the original. With each and everyone retelling the tale adding on their own spin and misinformation.
People begin to shut themselves off from everything outside their own echo chamber. They raise walls, hide behind barbed and concertina wire, to finally arm themselves in their perceived need to "defend" themselves.
In the last section this fear/Angst is turned inward, against former neighbors. Fear leads to the potential and finally the release of violence. Here the band members fire at the misinformation spoon fed to them on screen, not even realizing that their bullets only penetrate the walls they themselves have raised against their friends. The crashing walls and the hail of bullets not only kills their friends but leads to a collapse of society and their style of living.
In the end the mindless zombies consuming the snacks they bought from advertisements they saw on the same TV that brainwashed them into their zombie like state is also continuing to drain them of life and the joy for life.
For me the red color symbolizes the vitality of blood, the liquid that keeps us all alive. Only when we can get rid of this negative influence of bad information will we be able to return to life.
That's only my interpretation, and it can (and probably will be) wrong in at least several aspects.
But what I am certain is that Rammstein did not mean Angst as in the healthy fear for your life in a truly life threatening situation but as the unfounded fear due to manipulation from the outside. A fear of something that actually isn't fearsome at all.
Excellent (Rammstein) journey you have ahead of you. Enjoy it. My only recommendation is to leave "Adieu" for last.

My opinion is that this song shows how television and public opinion can influence a person and ultimately lead his life to ruin. I would like to draw your attention to the fact that the same girls who put Till at the podium for broadcasting give weapons to young people. Which says a lot. There are two eras of Germany when red, white and black were the colors of the national flag. The German Empire from 1871 to 1918. Between 1919 and 1933 the Weimarer Republik used black, red and gold (yellow) and then again it was red, white and black in the Third Reich till 1945. The Nazis used a lot to trigger fear to their means. This is - for me - the topic of the song: Don't let yourself be tricked into putting the blame on all problems to foreigners. Also, the world is not black and white. Absolute categories (black versus white / we are the good guys the others are wrong) are too simple.
"Deutchland" uses the red, black, and gold of the weimar and current german flag. "Angst" uses the red, black, and white of the ww2 nazi flag.
Red, when used in a negative context (such as in this video), is often used to represent any of the following wit intensity: anger, aggression, sin, fear, impulse, dominance, and power. Red also is known to raise blood pressure and typically used to stimulate a desired response (Sale signs, for example, are usually red, to psychologically entice one to buy something, just because it's at a reduced price.)
So, the band usually leave things a bit open for interpretation. But a common theory is that this song is about the fear (which is "Angst" in german) against strangers and foreigners and that its being instrumentalized by politicians, mostly right wing politicans, hence the colour combination of this video is black, white and red which is are the colours of the Flag of the 3rd Reich (Nazi germany) which brought racism to a whole different level. The sentence in the refrain "Wer hat Angst vorm schwarzen Mann?" means translated "Who is affraid of the boogey man?" but the literal translation from german means "Who is affraid of the black man?" which is another hint towards this theory as well as the Sweets that they eat in the end scene in front of the TV. This sweet has an old german name, which was banned since a long time, which was "Mohrenkopf". Translated this means "N-word head". Which is another small detail very well hidden.
"Mohr" does translate to "Moor". So "Mohrenkopf" translates to "Moor's head".
You were thinking of: "Negerkuss" (Negro Kiss).
The name was not banned. It was just changed out of political correctness and now people pretend as if the german "n-word" "Neger", was as derrogative as the english "n-word".
It was not. If you wanted to be derragatory to black people in germany you would have called them the english "n-word" as well. Just as in english where you could call people either "Negro" or the "n-word". One was a neutral term, the other was a pejorative.

About the red wire, due to the fact the song is about being scared about migration the red wire is to understand like the red thread into Germany's past, I would assume.

The song is basically about Racism. Fear of immigrants.
There was a childrens game thats called "Who is afraid of the black man" basically the boogeyman but they are interpreting it as who is scared of black immigrants. Could be related to Germany but most likely also pretty much to the US with the weapon industry and the cheerleaders.

Because this video is very important to me, I'm sharing my thoughts on it here.
For me the topic is very clear, it's about the fear of (mass) migration of certain groups. Evidence of this is, for example, the black mother and her child who are surrounded by a “border wall”. But the text is also clear. For example, it says "The country and its people are so afraid. The mob is heavily armed."
But where opinions differ is who is stirring up this fear. I often read that it would be politicians or the media in the sense of the press. But I see it differently. Also because of the colors chosen in the video. These are definitely not chosen at random.
For this I have to briefly explain what the current political/social situation is in Germany.
Starting with the great migration movement in 2015/16, when our former Chancellor Merkel opened the borders to many people at once, and then with the C pandemic, the conspiracy theory forces became bigger and louder. Especially on the internet. And these conspiracy theorists mainly include very right-wing groups. And also the so-called “Reichsbürger”. Before the Second World War, the Federal Republic of Germany was still called the “Deutsches Reich”. And the old flag of the “Deutsches Reich” was red, white and black. These “Reichsbürger” claim that Germany is not a sovereign state and did not receive a peace treaty after World War II. And want to restore the state order before the Second World War.
For this reason, and not least because it is generally known that Rammstein are left-wing, for me it is clearly about the fear that is being stirred up by right-wing groups against foreigners/migrants.

Angst is the German word for fear, this song is about how the media fuels the fear that people will have of things like foreigners, or anyone that is different from them. As the song progresses you see how people are becoming more fearful of each other, as they consume the media.

Hey Stacey, I Love Your reactions! I'm very curious what you think of Ren, with his song Hi Ren. That song is now a year old and with that he has really become big. He is an independent artist with many different styles under his name. His 2nd album Sick boi was recently released and debuted at number 1 in the UK album release. I would love to hear your opinion.
In 2009 Ren was discovered by Eric Appapoulay while busking(Playing live in the streets) one of his own songs. In 2010 he signed a recording contract with Sony Records. Ren went to London with Eric and started working on his debut album with Charlie Fowler, another member of Trick the Fox, at Sanctuary studio in South London. They started writing tracks, touring, and recording. They also posted some tracks and videos to the band's Facebook and CZcams accounts, and Tom Frampton joined the band.
Ren became too sick to finish the album and had to move home to Wales. He was bedridden for up to 23 hrs a day. In 2013 Ren moved to Brighton. Ren has spent many years dealing with health issues. He was misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome and later was diagnosed with Lyme disease in Belgium.

As soon as they watch TV they start building walls and arming themself and end up shooting someone else they see on TV even though it is there neighbor. All because someone tells them so and they believe it. That's what Till sings too, the "bogeyman (Schwarze mann) will haunt you if you're not good". In the end they eat Dickmanns. I think you got the meaning pretty much right, although it would have been better if you would have put up the close captions or looked up the lyrics. The key line in the lyrics is: "Everyone is afraid of the black man". And for black man you can also read: "the boogeyman". The song is all about politicians and media fueling anxiety and hate and using fear to create division and fuel racism which eventually leads to violence and mass shootings etc.. The black man a.k.a. the boogeyman stands for everything that we consider as "different", so not only black people and immigrants, but also LGBTI, jews, and what not. And you said it yourself: people don't think anymore. They just ingest it, and take it all for being true without thinking or criticizing what is being said. The problem is that most people these days don't judge with their brains (althought they think they do), but with their emotions. Facts don't mean anything to those people, truth is simply what most people believe. And the fact that this goes for the majority of people today, is worrying to say the least. So I take this as a call to start thinking for yourself, and make decisions based on logical arguments and facts. Base your thinking on actual reality rather than on good-sounding story's that give you a warm feeling while in fact being false. I think that is what the meaning of color in this video is. The color stands for truth and it returns only when Till destroys the media so that he can freely think for himself. This very same issue is also being addressed in a similar way in the official music video of Nightwish's song "Noise". There is a similar meaning in the use of color in that video. The red in this is typically. You will find it in many videos. The Song Deutschland from Rammstein got red beams too. But there is no hidden message. Just many history and nearly no one understands that the black girl in this song represents Germany. Especially she is the god Germania. So many reactions failed because of it.
The lyrics are all about fear. Fear you've been educated to as a child, fear brought by the media and so on. Central part of the lyrics are about being afraid of the black man (which needs a short cultural explanation).
Originally "black man" stands for a kind of bogeyman (or death) in German. There is an old catch and run children's game. One child is the "black man", starting with the phrase "Who's afraid of the black man?". The others answer "No one." ... "And when he comes?" ... "Then we run." The children run away and try to escape the "black man". When one is catched, it is the next "black man". I guess that's originated from medivial time when the plague (or "black death") killed half of the population of Europe. Infected people partly got a black skin and and children were told to stay away from them.
Nevertheless Rammstein is playing with the double meaning of "black man". Some politicians and media spread fear about refugees comming to Europe. And even though most of them are not black, they might look a bit different and give a trigger to xenophobia ... which those politicians try to use for their own goals. So "crazy" politicians (one of the two roles, Till plays in the video) and indifferent media just seeking for attention are a dangerous combination. (That is at least my interpretation.)

You have great insights. I live in Germany, and considering this album was written in the pandemic, I always thought this was specifically geared toward Covid and the vaccine... Especially because of the RED. When we we're given images of the virus itself, it was always red. Maybe I am wrong, your generalization about consumerism is more accurate. Just my two cents❤
To elaborate further, considering the lyrics, he speaks of not trusting strangers (the fear mongering that happened about masking and immunizing), evil will come and never leave (the virus will ALWAYS be here, just like cold and flu viruses). The fact they are building walls fits with the regulations for literally putting up a barrier (protection) between customers and employees, and symbolically the divide that the governments created between vaxxers and anti-vaxxers. I could keep going lol. Food for thought.

Angst rather means Fear. The English term anxiety is better translated to German as nervousness or concern, but it depends a bit on the context. But its very likely if someone in says in German "Angst" it refers to Fear or Dread.
And the symbolism in this video clearly hints at "fear mongering" in the media. The woman and the girl sitting in a ring of barbed wire represent a family of refugees and how we are watching them on TV and how they can watch us too. There is a lot to talk about these opposing point of views so I will not go into detail.
The politician Till represented, well, Trump for example, but also other less popular politicians like form the German AFD whose main topic is to play with fears of the people, painting a picture of the "Schwarzer Mann" (bogey man) they can use to justify their agenda.
