  • I need to repot my overgrown and root-bound Bird of Paradise in a larger pot. It’s going to be challenging as the Strelitzia is almost 3 meters tall, very wide, and has damaged leaves. So... I asked for professional help from the plant nursery people.

    They are so professional. The woman was very well spoken and simplified things so much more than most usually do, while saying a lot less! Loved this video! Very educational.

      I wasn’t impressed at much at all with this simplified approach. Let’s keep in mind these “professionals,” are re-potting large quantities of different plants, so as they are driven by profits, shortcuts are taken and corners are often cut. While you can generally rely on these companies for consistent quantities and diverse selections, the same can’t be same for the quality.

    Elena, very good information! Especially when it comes to hydrating the plant, thank you for inviting specialists. Keep it like this!
    Because I didn't know how to take care of myself properly, two crotons dried out.

      Just a regular indoor plants soil mix. You can find them in a supermarket or plant nursery

    What is the name of this type of pot?
    What are its features?
    Why don't you use pottery pots (natural clay!)? ? It is closer to plants and healthy because it is porous and from nature

    • @redhead_inc
      @redhead_inc  Před 2 lety +3

      It's just a big plastic pot. It's advantages are:
      1) It's lightweight. Clay pots of this size are VERY heavy to carry around.
      2) It's durable. Clay pots are more fragile than plastic ones.
      3) Plastic doesn't absorb moisture or retain bacteria. It's a more sanitary choice, especially if the plant already has a root illness.

    I wish they showed how far the soil should go, I have a small one, I bought it only recently, but when I pulled it out, the roots were insane, so I repotted it, and one root literally grows upwards before it bends down again. it doesn't seem possible to keep it under the soil, while keeping the "crown of the plant" out of the soil...

      @redhead_inc  Před 2 lety

      I think that Strelitzia Nicolai can grow up to 3 meters high. Depending on the climate of your country - it can grow outside. For example, in Barcelona these plants grow outside.
